try the 7 days free gamin download, so u wont wasre any coin if u dislike
Used to be a good sci-fi game. Now its something else, no one knows for sure. It was always heavy on the fantasy elements, but with SL it went way over board. I used to carry a radition gun powered by a antimatter generator, i still would if i had played, and ppl with with 2 switch blades would do 2 times my dmg, thats as much sci-fi as "Lost in space" the TV serie, is to a 15 year old today. Not to mention the fact that AO/SL is now a linear game that forces your play, the storyline/quests is like a bad single player RPG with lots of ppl figthing each other for the resources to get on.
Actually, if you have to decide on EQ or AO, AO has slowly moved in and is more and more like EQ in many ways, campfest bonanza.
I used to love AO, now i hate it, passed lvl 200 you have to move into the shadowlands to gain lvl's and by then you better be prepared to have your soul ripped out and stare at a barely moving screen for 12 hours a day, gaining only a headache.
Ive said it before and i will say it again, the only thing you need to have more fun then AO as of now is a finger and bellybutton.

sure ao has had alot of changes but its not like eq i dont think, cuz ao is actually a decent game where as eq isnt, imo i jsut started playing ao again a few days ago with a fresh account im addicted all over again.. damnit
I"m sorry but if your top level character is a 112 engineer than you have no right to pass judgement on this game. I've been playing AO steadily for about a year now and i think the only period of time where it was difficult to find a team to do something was right before the expansion <Shadowlands> was released. Other than that i've never had to spend more than 20 minutes looking for a team.
All the problems listed above are not problems with just AO, but rather problems with mmorpg's in general. Its becoming a stagnant genre with company's pumping out subpar games just to make as much money from subscription fee's as possible. The one bright light is Ultima X. They promise to give each player or set of players their own dungeon. Which hopefully will result in less camping. AO has done something similar where you can now spawn unique bosses at your leisure.
AO in general is a great game with tons of stuff to do. That remark about leveling in AO being boring is ridiculous. In what game is leveling up constantly fun? At least with AO they give you a few different ways of going about it. Instead of just doing a mission over and over again.
In conclusion, if your going to play AO or any other mmorpg for that matter try playing a profession that has a little more flavor to it. Not just being a "tank" like the 203 soldier there. Try out something different like an NT or Crat. I had 10x more fun playing my crat than i did my ma/enf/adv combined.

Sounds like you need to try Neocron. A sci-fi game that actually SCI-FI, doesn't have crippling lag spikes, monotonous 4-hour missions, and finding a team takes about 10 seconds....on a slow day.
Seriously, I played AO for 2 years, man...Neocron is what AO should have been all along. It's such a comfortable transition that you can even design your character around a class from AO....I modeled my PE after my fixer main from ao....no GA, of course, but I can stealth (invisibility), and that's pretty damn good in itself.
With the release of the upcoming expansion, they are even including a "Hacknet", which reminds me of AO's grid to a scary level.
AND....best of all......the PVP actually WORKS!!!!

I have to say that Anarchy Online is the best mmorpg i played.
I have been playing EverQuest, Ultima Online, Neocron, Asherons Call 2, SW Galaxies, Astonia 3 and FFXI, and i think more.......but i dont remember them. Anarchy Online is a different game from the others mmorpg, it gives you a great playing experience. Dont play Everquest, i dislike it in my opinion, but its old and in little time it wont exist. Try Anarchy Online. You wont regret it
None the less, i have played since beta 3, i have played every prof in the game many of them past lvl 100, and yes crat is fun prof but switcing roles aint really my kind of gamestyle.
Im saying that AO is destroyed for ME, being a long looong time player and really liking to rubi-ka world and above all knowing it to a great extent SL pretty pulled my fun plug. In all honesty, even though they made a staryline for why things are like this, SL has little or nothing to do with the original game. As I said, they pulled out every bit of choice about what to do and replaced it with endless and endless hours of camping to get to the next playfield, like a pretty lame single player RPG.
AO on RK is very fun, SL is hell, and there is no way to get anything out of this game now equipment wise unless you go there, even more so, if you do decide you want to play but on RK only you still need SL pack to benefit from buffs that other players with SL try to use one you. Not to mention gear.
Allthough everyone should prolly try the 7 day free triel thingy, as the early part of the game can be extremely fun even if you play solo and have nothing.

And since you can download AO and try it for 7 days free, what's to lose?
