Magic: Legends has billed itself as an MMO/Action RPG, and while the ARPG elements have been readily present in the latest gameplay videos and blogs the team has released this month, many wonder where the "MMO" fits into the equation. Recently we had a chance to sit down with the Executive Producer of Magic: Legends, Stephen Ricossa, to talk how the team is building a "modern MMO" with its latest project.

So it IS an MMO? This discussion should be fun.

Trying to stick the MAGIC brand onto a terrible ARPG platform is doing very little to ever excite me.I quit MTG because of Planeswalkers and adding in the ARPG design is a complete turnoff.I felt WOTC ruined the MTG game with Planeswalkers but in reality ,this has nothing to do with Planeswalkers, this is just an ARPG through and through, everything looks cheap like an Indie game.

Looks kinda cool to me. Slower ARPG with magic type layered effects. Should be fun multiplay too.

I've never once tried a game with trading card systems and combat that I thought was anything close to an rpg, good, or even tolerable. Since beggars can't be choosers I'll probably give it a try (if I can at no cost), and I hope it pleasantly surprises me by being the first of its kind I find enjoyable.

Isn't Cryptic also making the Torchlight mmoarpg?

You want to know how MMO fits into the equation?

    It doesn't. Three people isn't a MMO.

    Stop it.

Too bad it's going to be ruined by Cryptic. They ruined everything that is Neverwinter. They also ruined Star Trek Online. Not to mention Perfect World as of late has been getting into the pay to win nonsense. No thanks.

Any word on a release date? Also the only reason this doesn't have a co-op / standalone single player option is to monetise it via microtransactions. I wonder if a regular game purchase, buy once and play however you want, would have suited this title better?

Go online with a character, have your local standalone character, connect with friends directly if you want etc.

It's a peeve of mine even with Diablo 3.

Still interested in the game, and seeing what they make out of it. With Cryptic's experience as a company they should be able to get something to market quickly and iterate based on feedback.

Developers, please stop bullshitting us with the MMO label. We may be slow, but we're beginning to catch on.
