I might jump in one of these days.
Welcome to the forums.....maybe you're not understanding my perspective. The game is fine if you're more new to the game or were more casual when the game was hardcore back in the day, but for someone like me who was on the more hardcore end of the game, its just a way for people to experience stuff they never would have back then. Again, good for them but it doesn't do it for me, which is fine as well. Its good to see the game is still going. It could always be worse like shut down or worse, like current wow.
Then the BST adjustment, had to read it a couple times to understand what we are talking about.I am still not understanding it,1 second global timer,a simple 1 sec delay between using various abilities, either way 1 second seems pointless.
Square went from almost never doing anything wrong "except for the BS during the 2h and 1h weapon updates to doing a lot of things wrong.
Classes are still fun, combat fun but the ENTIRE game is focused or at least was focused on a WOWISH end game idea and grinding for new types of points or gear.Square has lost it's way in game design,i have been disappointed with a lot of recent SE purchases.
If i was to play FFXI right now i think i would still likely choose a private server over the official even though i would be missing half the game. This is because the private servers are true fans and GET IT,Square Enix does not get it and why i also quit playing FFXIV awhile back.
SE should have NEVER aimed at any kind of end game.A simple induction of classes/jobs,new areas and a SLOW grind to level would have kept the fun of grouping. So now FFXi is a typical mmorpg game of hit n miss, sometimes great sometimes bad.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

is it the graphics? the repetativenesses? i mean what is the point? you could be so much more productive in real life
Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
Yeah, for me the trust thing is just unforgivable. This game was centered around intense group play for 15+ years then its like "Hey, play with npcs." I get the decision since the playerbase was declining and even the original devs that switched over to FFXIV admitted that they regretted making XI such a time intensive game, but trusts are just stupidly buffed to the point that if you pretty much can't carry someone or aren't friends, its no point in sacrificing a trust spot for a random. This further pushes the solo mentality and "justifies" the excuse that no one wants server merges even though 1-2 are decently populated. Trying to get blood from a stone at this point. More than likely they'll announce FFXI classic or some variant for the 20th anniversary, but I honestly don't know I'd feel about it unless I got every single detail known about it since they might put their 'spin' on it somehow.
I have to slightly disagree here. I agree that a focus on endgame, and not the journey, was a mistake. Also, I agree that SE of today certainly isn't the SE of old, and we could hash out why all day. However, talking only of FFXI, I am forced to begrudgingly agree with their overall direction of the game. FFXI was (self admittedly) modeled after EQ. Just look at what EQ live has become. If SE had decided to keep the slow slog that FFXI was back in its heyday, it too would be a wasteland of mismatched, cobbled together, once great areas or it would simply be dead. Simply put, it's a numbered Final Fantasy, and story is important. For me personally, however, 90% of the story was completely inaccessible. I just didn't have the time, and I certainly don't now. At least the way it is now, I get a complete, well told, story that can still provide some challenge at the upper end. More importantly, though, it FEELS like it should (even with trusts). EQ, by comparison, simply feels broken, and I, for one, am glad it didn't end up like that. There are worse alternatives than an end-game focus and trusts.
