We'll see how this works out, but with my limited game time lately, I'd hate to have to spend all my time 'earning my keep'.
It would feel like a job pretty quick, I would think, and turn me off playing.

exactly what i was thinking, how much work is required to maintain your settlement, is big companies(or guilds) can easily attack smaller companies and get their stuff or small companies have chance to defend somehow? can you lose your settlement or you just lose levels? you know the amount of grind needed to level it back up, you know on paper the game looks good but in reality how casual friendly the game is? is it another hard core pvp game?
i wont pre order this game, ill wait for reviews and watch twitch game play and then ill decide to buy it or not.
Funny thing.
They told everyone that the Game has "changed" from PvP to PvE.
And now, everything explained is mainly around PvP.
Seems, for me, nothing has changed rly. Time wil tell i guess.

Even the first announcement of the change to PvE hinted at a PvP-centric game. Throwaway comments like (paraphrasing here) "of course, the way to get maximum gains will still involve PvP." This delay allows them to tie in some minor PvE elements to mask the core PvP nature.
I doubt the game has really changed, at least not substantially. Only the marketing has changed. They are desperately trying to appeal to the sheep, so the wolves will have something to do. Let them eat wolf spleens!
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

I am sorry to disappoint all of you cry babies but the majority of MMORPG players are actually pvp oriented and want pvp content.

If I can work toward something, and have fun while doing it, sign me up.
If I have to like estate planning to enjoy it, I'll give it 3 months.

That's exactly why all major MMOs are PvP centric and not a pathetic afterthought shoehorned into PvE centric MMOs.

See, I've got jokes too.
All the current major MMORPG games have had some sort of patching or relaunch focused on PVP content because [mod edit]
Take Albion for example. Take BDO. Even FF XXIX are trying to bring PVP into the game with all the latest patches because of the their numbers going lower and lower by listening to your stupid PVE advice.
Hell, if you go into the GW2 forums is filled with comments from casuals saying : "I am quitting because this nerf and that nerf. I am useless in PVP"

Well... sorry they didn't make the game according to your schedule. What a shame.
You're a bit snide with your remark, but I agree with you.
Not everyone should suffer, because a few people don't have the time and effort to dedicate to a game. Prime examples of games ruined to accommodate such people - ESO and Retail WoW.
I think it's fair to let one game be about the more hardcore players and the casuals or people with less time on their hands can have the rest...
But then again, this is Amazon, not some small indie developer that does their own thing and doesn't allow outside opinions to change affect their vision. This is Amazon, something on the scale of EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft, which will most likely end up ruining their game and making it casual-friendly so that even people with no time and just lazy entitled people who believe they deserve to get tons of rewards for doing nothing, can feel like they're achieving much in the game.
I think people should understand that not every game is for them and they should back off and not try to ruin it for everybody else. For example I can't enjoy Ultima Online or Old School RuneScape, but that doesn't mean I have to go on a crusade to change the game so it suits my needs.
I absolutely agree with what you said but I want you to take something in equation:
This is a 1000 server max cap game which is rather more like a survival style (which I might not play anyway depending on what I see in the beta). With that being said, there can be servers that can be very competitive and servers that focus on PVE content exclusively.
That is the beauty of an MMORPG. It's a consensus that players get to.
Forcing the game to be this and that will kill the player base and turn off one type of player or the other.
In BDO for instance, if we saw Grind was farming on Ser. #1 channel and we didn't want to contest them, as being the second best PVP guild, we moved to Mediah #1.
If we wanted to go after them we did.
That's the entire beauty of an MMORPG.
Hell, I still have memories from Lineage 2 where we had 5-8 hours of pure PVP guild fights and god forbid you died cause at a high level, 1% exp loss meant you will be back to farming 4h just cause you died once.
Since then I have played literally all the MMORPGs that launched and I can barely remember few good moments in them.
All I am asking from these cucks is not to confuse an MMORPG with a safe space. This is not god damn minecraft. You come to play with thousands of other players, then you can expect to have random situations and problems that you need to address. This is not going to be a fairly tale.
In the end, let me say that there is a reason very few people play healers in MMORPG and that is because all of these cucks want to be competitive BUT they fail either because of small brain, little dedication & time they can offer or just being completely annoying kids which nobody take serious and accept in their guilds.
That is not the game problem.
Falls in line with what I have said is a major issue with any and all MMOs past present or future. Trying to balance time spent in game because most games are based around more time more (fill in the blank here) so no lifers who can play 80 hours a week have a distinct 'advantage' in most regards. In games where you must do X amount of time doing something it is an obvious 'advantage'.
It is why I have said for years MMOs are dead because people that play them are getting older and more mature and arent total no lifers anymore. Sure you will have the 'retirees' or 'disabled' people that might think they have 'legit' excuses for spending 80 hours (more than two [these days] full time jobs hours for the same week) playing a frigging video game. So the populations just arent there. At least for extended periods.
Its also why MMOs are more or less single players playing on multiplayer servers. Because the 'group' content isnt what most people want. Even with the more populated games like WoW, ESO and BDO (I dont play it but have heard) group content is easy enough to be done with PuGs more or less.
So while this notion Amazon is trying to implement might appeal to 'old school' types it isnt going to get a lot of attraction to the masses. Sure you will have a few 'hardcore' guilds that will rush in and control everything but in the end that is completely counter productive to longevity of an MMO. There simply arent enough organized guilds anymore with enough people that can play enough and put the time in to 'challenge' a group of no lifers or an organized group with people who can play all hours of the day.
In the first month or so I am sure it will seem perfect as that will be the most people playing but as the population thins it will show its glaring weaknesses and then the inevitable changes that will just piss everyone off. It is a vicious cycle every single MMO has faced for the past well since they have existed basically.
Rodarin, any genre of game, not only MMORPGs, will have the same issue. Do you think you can play better Mario Kart than someone who plays Mario Kart 12h a day and streams it?
You don't have to be the absolute best but can you contribute to the player driven content in other ways? Can you organize a guild? Can you create a strategy? Can you ally with a different guild to achieve a goal you can't on your own?
You don't have to be on the same level as someone with 12h of free time. All you have to do is be better by using your other skills. Reminds me of real life.
This sounds pretty PvP to me and the stress of being attacked non-stop will stress PVE players out won't it? The player server limit means there will probably be one guild that will dominate and constantly attack the smaller ones. Sure some smaller ones for a while will believe they have a chance but really in the end math will determine the winner all the time either by time played or player number imbalance.
If the rumor is true of AGS using New World just as a test to see what works and doesn't then their LOTR MMO may end up being pretty amazing. Imagine playing as dwarves, elves, humans, orcs, goblins attacking each other.

Most mobile games (and in the past, browser games when they were still a thing) get around the issue with stamina systems. So long as one has enough time in the day to do all their daily quests and use all their stamina (the amount of time to do that varies from game to game, but it's usually around 1 hour to 4 hours once you're settled in), you keep up with everyone else. …….before the pay-to-win factor comes in, that is.
I've actually talked to developers of those sorts of games on several occasions and they said that according to various tests and data etc, NOT having stamina systems so players have to grind 24/7 to feel like they're keeping up actually tends to make games lose players.
Of course, New World isn't a mobile game. It is, however, a highly competitive game. I think non-competitive games like Path of Exile can get away with not having stamina systems but competitive games where time spent = in-game power tend to burn people out fast I've noticed. (not to be confused with out-of-game power like Mario Kart. People psychologically give those a lot more leeway because you're at least not at a permanent disadvantage that isn't related to your playing skill. That applies to MOBAs and Battle Royales and FPS games too)
Guess we'll see if New World will be the case of that or not.
