Recently, we had the chance to see a behind-closed-doors demo of Larian's upcoming RPG, Baldur's Gate 3. Here are our impressions of the next installment in this towering franchise.
Comments
It seems like they got that criticism quite a bit because they have commented, a lot, on how Baldur's Gate 3 will have a darker tone. I'm just hoping they can pull that off. For that reason seeing how many similarities this has to D:OS 2 puts me off from it. Hopefully it turns out well.

Of course the game will look like Divinity Original Sin probably because of the graphics and engine they are using but they are also incorporating the dice and will use other D and D effects. You cannot expect them not use their assets. You think money grows on trees is it?
I want a BG3 not a Dos3.

I've been watching early seasons of Better Call Saul on Netflix recently and his voice and delivery remind me of Jimmy's big brother Howard... in a good way

I love Divinity, but I want Baldurs Gate.
Still exited though, and I will buy it for sure either way, as I trust Larian to make a good game.
I'm a bit conflicted. While D:OS2 was fairly light-hearted it wasn't to the point where it ruined it for me.
My apprehension is because I sunk literally 100's of hours into D:OS2 with various playthroughs. While I enjoyed it at the time I really have no desire to revisit it yet again, I burnt myself out. I was hoping BG3 would be different enough to not trigger feelings of deja vu. Maybe it won't, I'm glad there are months to wait so I'll have a few different games under my belt and might be ready for it again even if it feels similar.
If one is expecting a direct link to the first two Baldur's gate games then DON'T buy it.
Not only was that 20 years ago (20 years!) it was also done by a different studio.
The game play will be "similar" and the setting "should" of course be Baldur's gate.
But this is a completely different studio's take on the game.
To put it in perspective, if one was to play a D&D module with one dungeon master they shouldn't expect the same "game" with another dungeon master.
In essence, Larian is the Dungeon Master and this is their campaign. Bioware already did their campaign.
