Spellbreak, Proletariat's Battle Royale pitting mages against each other is now in closed beta on both PC and PS4. We had a chance to go hands on with the new beta ahead of time to check out the changes being made to the game since our last go-around. Spoiler alert - it's pretty good.

Not as BR fan but this game is a lot of fun. It's definitely worth at least checking out.

BR is just a game mode. No need to get panties in a twist.

Damn, looks fun. Think my kid and I might like to play this together, either on PC or PS4. But I’m not paying $50 to get in early!

I wouldnt mind a deathmatch / objective based mode with this game. Not a fan of BR at all.

Still a BR which is only barely better pvp than a rpg.

Pvp is most skilled within a map designed specifically for pvp, which caters to arena type combat.

A properly designed map can really bring out skills people would never think of.Go watch some unrealtournament players, unreal skills, then you'll have a whole new perspective on how bad BR combat is.

Good article, even if it is not my type of game.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Different strokes. The appeal of a BR, I would guess, is the degree of randomness or surprise that having so many enemies over such a large area provides.

It isn't intended to be a hyper competitive arena experience, and that's why the idea of BR as an esport simply baffles me.

It looks good, but last closed beta there are hardly any people in it.
