I've been a Sysadmin/Database Admin for nearly 20 years now. If you're running your IT operation properly, then the amount of things that have to happen, nearly simultaneously, in order to lose your entire application, is nearly impossible.
If you have anything on your computer that you really don't want to lose, then I highly suggest using a backup application. Mine performs a weekly full backup and a nightly incremental backup. Then, once a day, I plug in an external drive and copy backups onto it, then unplug that drive, so I have two copies of my backups.
One that's "hot" and one that's "cold".
Why? Because if you get infected by ransomware, then it will encrypt your entire computer, so you won't be able to get to your hot backups either since they're stored locally. But if you copy your backups to an unplugged external drive regularly, then you can plug it in after you reboot into your backup utility and re-image your entire machine from a clean drive.
What is even more amazing, was it was relevant to the topic.

Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
