Ah yes, boss gear so that you can grind mindless boring mobs that group up for you to AoE down without fighting back in more places, woo!

I'm one of those people that played tons of mmorpgs over the last one and a half decades, and BDO has one of the worst itemization systems i've seen, so much so that I quit the game because of it. It's unfortunate because I kinda liked a few of the other aspects of the game. If only Pearl Abyss made a more traditional mmorpg.

that's because the itemisation was designed with monetisation tied to it.
bdo is an unregulated virtual casino.
combat and pvp are interesting though but they don't warrant coming back to or starting that p2w mess.

Especially when the only content is AoE mob farming for hours on end.

All these negative comments here are 1000% right. Stay away from this, unless you enjoy hundreds of hours farming for a chance to upgrade your gear, only to fail. P2W.... rng...and rng ONLY in the favor of KAKAO!

For the impatient and those unwilling to take the time or put in any effort, the game certainly seems like it's P2W yes. Sadly this has been conditioned into many players due to the absolutely mind-numbingly boring theme-park MMOs that have frequented the market in the last 10 years or so.

Anyone interested in the game, don't listen to the above posts, they're grossly misleading and just there for provocateurial reasons seemingly. Pay as little or as much as you like, it's entirely up to you. The game does not force you to buy anything to enjoy it. It has every right to offer a wide variety of services/items available in it's Pearl Shop to generate an income and survive.

There are better F2P games. I own 2 copies of BDO, one for Steam and one off-Steam, both won for free and I can't bring myself to play this garbage of a game for more than 40 minutes.

While there may be better f2p games, even p2p games, the serious lack of quality mmos in the last few years also adds to this game. Even aside from the shit mmo landscape I still find a metric crap ton to do in this game, and I haven't leveled past 50, because I have a serious aversion to pvp. I recently told a friend that this game might have the most content of any mmo currently on the market. I've spent hundreds of hours, if not in the thousands (the only other game I've played more is WoW, with that kind of time), and I haven't set foot on a ship, made it past lvl 50, moved past Calpheon. The fact that most things are tied to your family (account) adds to its longevity via alts.
Even aside from straight leveling, or the ship or extended areas I haven't been to, I certainly have had a blast leveling a fair amount of toons. I don't engage in social behavior mostly, so all of what I have is bought off the market. Mounts are fun to breed, even though the minigame is a pain and I prefer to just buy them from others and breed from there. While I may never be 'endgame' or some such, there is seriously an amount of content I can recommend to anyone.
My only real gripe with the game is texture pop in, which I have never seen this bad in any game before this, although, having just recently come back to the game, its gotten quite a bit better.

Always try a game, especially if it has a free trial, which BDO does, and make up your own mind. BDO is a beautiful game with awesome combat, and can be a real immersive and enjoyable game. Yes, it does not give you what you want after a week, but for some, that's a good thing.

Oh that's perfectly fine. We are of course all allowed to make up our own mind on a game. And a game that one loves another will despise: The beauty of being an individual. BDO is not perfect, no game is, and it's very foolish to expect one to be.

However, the constant bashing of this game for various reason (P2W/RNG rigged/etc) by some posters is actually just plain misleading. They feel the need to do it for whatever personal reason, but it's factual incorrect (which they would know if they played the game). So someone needs to set the record straight.

At the end of the day, it's up to the individual to make up their own mind: We're not robot, our personal likes and dislikes vary.

Game bashing without solid foundation along with misrepresentation are common here, and many other gaming forums I imagine. Good luck trying to stem that tide.

I expect, though, that those with an open mind have long since deduced the prevalence of such and no longer give it much heed, instead trusting their own counsel and whatever sources they can find that appear free of bias and vitriol.

In short, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The majority of those closed and open to what BDO offers will largely remain so regardless of forum commentary.
