Like are we going to seriously try and berate FFXIV while there are THOUSANDS of utter trash games out there? You know how much effort goes into a game like FFXIV then look at ALL of the ARPG's,moba's,BR's all complete junk,no effort games.Or those other games Dark Souls and the lot, again CHEAP with a capital C...CHEAP games.
That's a what about-ism.
That other games have low(er) production quality does not preclude people from pointing out poor design decisions in FFXIV. I'd think you're smart enough to know this, Wizardry. So it's a bit surprising to see you arguing such a logical fallacy.
You can post your issues with FFXIV, and then go and do the same with every other game on this site (in fact, you practically have by now). So, I'm not sure why you'd even make such an argument as you did.
I don't think he's wrong. I think what makes it one of the most boring levelling experiences is:
Heavy reliance on fetch quests or talk to another npc
Combat is very slow and uninteresting pre-50
I needed to take extended breaks from the game on my quest to 50, during the days of ARR. It's a common gripe amongst my friends who I've introduced to the game. They can't get past the slow and basic combat early on and there are a lot of cutscenes, fetch quests and "Go here and talk to x". I honestly didn't understand what they were talking about in the beginning, but eventually, I realized that I hadn't done that content in a very, very long time. My view on that early content was warped and biased because I had been in end-game for so, so long. I bet that if I did it all over again, I'd struggle to stomach it.
Crazy. In the 3 months I've started playing I've leveled archer/bard, machinist, finished the entire MSQ up to 5.2, did all side quests, leveled BOT, MIN, FSH, finished a few beast tribes, leveled my Grand company rank to buy a house, finished a bunch of sight seeing log entries, almost finished all the dungeon unlocks I have, almost finished with relic weapon quests to move on to the next weapon, and there is still more to do. You all must get bored easy. Fetch quests never really bothered me much since it's been an MMO thing since kill 10 rats. It also helps if you don't mind reading, if you hate reading then you will never understand the story and I can see why you hate this game.
I'm sure others have done a lot of that stuff, too.
I do plenty of Mining and Crafting in FFXIV. I do PvP from time to time. I'll run side quests. But none of that is the core of what I enjoy in a MMO. None of it is what my decision to play a MMO or not relies on.
Linif is discussing very specific types of content that is, apparently, important to them. They find those areas of the game lacking. How much Tiller has done on their character does not, in any way, undermine what Linif or their friends' experience.
You do realize that different people enjoy different types of content to others and, so, their experience is going to be colored by the content they choose to do?

Oh I know, thing is maybe the kind of game they are looking for isn't an MMO. Any MMO that has swayed even slightly from the known path has flopped one way or another. I mean I have an idea of what the perfect MMO would look like for me anyways, none out there are doing it, and most likely never will. In the meantime I figure why not have fun with what is out there.
