I stopped playing a few weeks after release at lvl 25 and re-started the game 2 weeks ago.

While there are still bugs I enjoy the game. Much more now with Wastelanders.

    As for costs....
~40€ for the game at release
    0 € for Microtransactions
0 € for FalloutFirst because I dont need my own server
    ~3000 Atoms just by playing
You're catering to "your base"! :)

I was actually extremely skeptical of Fallout 76 when it launched. So much so that I didnt buy it until early March. Best investment I've made on a game in a long while. I think, as someone else said, it's all about the exploration. It's a huge landscape with alot of places to visit and search around. I also like the building of your C.A.M.P. in the game. It's very easy and you can get pretty creative.

Then there are the weapons...really awesome weapons you can make. The guitar sword is probably my favorite one as far as looks go.

I just think, all around, with no sub fee, you are getting a game that you I've already spend multiple hours on, where Im not just logging in to grind dailies and raid, and I'm not even close to having seen everything yet.

Now the new expansion is out and it's a whole new journey. I will say though, that I never minded not having NPC's...but it will be awesome to experience an entirely new journey now.

I would say if you are sick and tired of the vanilla stype MMORPG and looking for something done differently but still familiar (Fallout series), then give it a go. Don't listen to the naysayers, it's a legit game.

Game was going for under $10 a year ago. I remember @kyleran buying extra copies just for storage. Now it’s back to $40.
Have some friends that would hop in but not for $40.

In this case I think not.  It's half deployed to test already.  Id say June it goes Live.

No.   The big patch with the Dregs is going to move to Live.  Then they will rapidly move to Beta.   Expect to see a huge increase in CF ads and articles.  CF is going to launch this year (launch =no wipes).  I’d bet your house on it.

How does the multiplayer work with FO76 and these new NPC quests?

If me and 3 friends are playing in my game doing quests, and then they leave to go play on their onw, will they keep their progression? If I join them and they are further ahead on quests or they join me while they are further ahead what happens?

The important quest are all inside somewhere, that inside is instanced to the player(s) who goes in the firstand basically sets the stage. friends can join together even if nobody else has something to do there.
If they are ahead then you can basically replay it with them in your instance. there is no progression loss at all anyway you do it.

Openworld works the same except they wont be able to pickup quest items that belong to you.

The game has no issues on teaming / sharing quest

So did Bethesda finally fixed fallout 76? The steam reviews went from mostly negative -> mixed -> now it's mostly positive

2020 where people are excited about a Fallout game adding NPC's after 2 years.

Honestly it's hard to believe I even typed that sentence. Standards are so low now we are reaching up to touch bottom with a Fallout game that was so broken it didn't have something as basic as NPC's.

Actually this is more like reaching up to touch bottom with a 20 foot pole and then getting an upgrade that moves you 10 feet closer to bottom.

Wow NPC's!!! How exciting and new!! Not like that was a standard feature that should have been there from the start...

They had that cash shop there day one tho!

Its not like the NPCs were every really necessary, but players these days have largely lost their ability to read, listen, comprehend and use their imaginations, so the introduction of NPCs is necessary to compensate for player shortfalls.

There was a terrific backstory in FO76, by the end I got to really know the many characters and despair (or rage) at their demise despite their best (and worst) efforts to survive. (And their just plain bad luck at times)

Yet many lack the patience to take time to find it all,  which was a very important part of the game design which they just weren't willing to do.

The failing was on the players, Bethesda's biggest fault was not realizing how damn many of their customers need to have everything served up on a plate, with out any effort,  which I agree they should have seen coming.

Speaking frankly Friday,  we won't really be able to get better games until we get some better quality gamers.

The player base has been going in the wrong direction for so many years now, don't hold your breath.

I read that it links your actual Paypal account for a sub to the game which is absolute no no for me. I was debating whether I try this or go back to DDO .Well DDO won. Talking about the email.

3: Credit card only: for some odd reason their in game/web shop is stuck in 2005. in order to get the subscription or in game cosmetic items using RL$ you Must have a credit card directly or linked to your paypal account. be very careful when using paypal. a currently still unsolved (i thnk) bug in their account system is that Bethesda will aply the membership to the email adress of paypal.. not your actual gameplay account you do the buying for.

NPCs and such are pretty much necessary for something like the previous games.

I guess they just thought about how to make a cool scenario where every human you meet is another player. Thats why the voip was activated for everyone at the beginning. They wanted to force us playing together.
Saving a lot of money by not implementing npcs with their voiceover and so on is of course another reason, but I personally still get the idea behind it which seems to be planned at release

So did most people. Which they obviously realized eventually. Hence this DLC.

They wouldn't have gotten half the grief they got at release if they had included NPCs, NPC factions and companions from the start.

As someone who never played a Fallout game before I had no preconceived notions about the game.  Overall I enjoyed it (and hope to enjoy the new update eventually).  While I enjoyed a lot of the story (especially that storyline about the female spy group) I will say that it could have used some additional NPC interactions.  I think the sleuthing was fun, but sometimes too much of a good thing is a bad thing and eventually, it kind of got to that point with me and I grew bored.

I think if one takes a step back and thinks it all sort of makes sense.

As an avid Elder Scrolls "single player game" fan, Elder Scrolls Online is NOT the game I wanted.

But then I take a breath and realize that they weren't taking the single player games and making them multiplayer (which is what I wanted) they took the Elder Scrolls setting and made an mmorpg with a lot of the stylings of what mmorpg's are today.

With Fallout I think they took a look at what a post apocalyptic world with players would look like and came up with a more competitive game as it actually would be in a post apocalyptic world scrounging for resources type game.

Part of this is that developers are creators and they do want to stretch their creative muscle but part of it is also realizing that players will have expectations. Half the time I think they forget that and are just excited to work on something where they can put their personal stamp on it.

And some of it is that us players need to manage our expectations. Twice I've fallen into that trap. First with Aion after which I vowed I would learn my lessons. And then I forgot that lesson and was disappointed with Elder Scrolls Online.

I have to remind myself that there are no guarantees that the game being released, no matter what has gone before, is going to be something I like.

Including the next Elder Scrolls single player game.

Understood, few enjoyed Fallout Tactics but it is still a favorite of mine, all sorts of terrific combat missions without too much emphasis on the RPG elements.

You really are looking for multiplayer Fallout 5, and this is still not that game by any means.

I enjoy FO76 for what it is, unlike many who slag on it because it's not the game they wanted it to be.

I bought it long ago, just didn't try it... until today and was fairly surprised!

Npcs are available right from the start. Not sure I have time to fully delve into it, but I did want to play it someday (especially if my friends join too).

I stayed away at launch and had pretty much written it off until this update. I decided to give it a try and I am very glad I did. I can understand the negativity from everything I’ve read on how the game launched as well as the cash shop and sub but for someone coming in now with an open mind it’s been great so far... we will see how I feel after the honeymoon phase is over.
Just started over tonight with a few friends.  Having fun!

I tried (unsuccessfully) to make fun of the first two npcs you encounter and they would respond sarcastically or not disclose information afterwards. The dialogue options are like fallout 3 which is nice.
