How is it now?

I've had this game for months now, but I waited for the developers to hopefully fix some of the issues it had at launch so I played other games.

I am kinda looking for another game to spend some time on and thought on giving it a try. Will most probably play it as if it's another dlc for Fallout 4 and not an entirely new game. Following the story and quests, building, exploring and whatnot.

So, how is it in it's current state?

Thanks

The game got weaker with updates. The incoming of human NPC can fresh things up a little, also continuining the main story quests.

The community is great, tho. And I mean it. People were so upset/worried about griefers and PK yet, I don't say this lightly and I say it literally, read this with care: All players I met this far helped me either solving events or giving duplicated blueprints, weapons and ammo. People really help each other out, I wasn't expecting that when I first played it, tbh.

Yet. sadly, Bethesda Inc is killing the game.

New bugs appeared and some are indeed game breaking.... sigh....

Like the "death cloud" in which an attack animation will detach from an enemy and get suspended in a zone. If your character passes through it gets "hit" countless times and dies.
I did see some videos on that last occurrence. So it's still in the game? That's quite awful :/

Also, good that the community is great as I'm a pver. Managed to play Conan Exiles for a long time due to their pve-conflict server where pvp was limited by time and bases couldn't be destroyed by other people.

This is one of those games, that I wanted to be good so badly, that I keep considering.
I just have to stay strong.  I did play during that free time and it just felt "off" for some reason.  I will keep watching though.

Dint buy it due to all the negative reviews in the past. However 3 weeks ago  I got it at a discount and started playing.
Found that the game was in a very playable state, I played a lot of it and found something new every single hour I played.

Now that wastelanders is out I must say the game improved alot, As said I was already enjoying it and now im absolutely loving it now, the "DLC" brought some big improvements to the game.

One thing to understand before buying this game are the few downsides that can make it a bit frustrating at times.

1: Its a single player game in a multiplayer setting (its not a mmo), This has pros and cons, Im a loner but I like going to peoples houses to look or buy stuff. if you dont like random people showing up in youre immersive game there is a private world option but thats a big redflag for me, its basically part of a cash grab.

2:Private worlds : in order to play alone or just with friends someone Must pay a $15 subscription fee just to do so. sooo if your a hermit without money your out of luck.

3: Credit card only: for some odd reason their in game/web shop is stuck in 2005. in order to get the subscription or in game cosmetic items using RL$ you Must have a credit card directly or linked to your paypal account. be very careful when using paypal. a currently still unsolved (i thnk) bug in their account system is that Bethesda will aply the membership to the email adress of paypal.. not your actual gameplay account you do the buying for.
note: while playing you also collect shop credits so you still be able to buy alot of the cosmetic stuff, the trick is to spent it wise due to their shop rotation system. almost everything in it will only be there for a limited time.

3: Server stability/bugs :  Bugs there are a few but not realy game breaking, I only seen minor stuff.  Server stability is not that good, (I would call it bad even)
Being kicked by the server due to network issues happens,
This is frustrating when in the middle of a event or mission since it will reload you into a other world instance and there the event might not be happening at that time. Sometimes npc's insta heal, nasty if its a "boss" creature you had down to 10%.

The most frustrating bug I encountered several times is the one were my gun hits were not registered as such, aka shoot but do no dmg. it has costed me some ARGG moments, luckly due to how the game works there is not much of a setback. just respawn near and run back into the fight.

The "list"with cons seems long but its forum illusion magic. the game with all its flaws is amazingly fun
