I followed a bit of Warhammer up to the release,i didn't know Marc was behind that game.I watched those video episodes and man was i turned off,the people doing them were/acted like little kids.
The point you made is the exact one that caught my eye at the time, the crafting and how they basically foiled it just to release the game right away to make money.I guess the difference is that i thought Warhammer might be decent, this game however doesn't give me any good vibes at all, like none.
Then again none of the crowd funded, kickstarter, whatever give me any hope at all, just bs ways to make money is all these studios are to me.I'll stick to ffxi for now until a real studio can come up with something better "not likely"for awhile.I seriously don't even understand how people can get involved with sub par gaming.I am quite confident Pantheon will be the best of the entire lot of crowd funded games but even that game will likely be a 6/10 scored legitimately.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Marc Jacobs is one of the nicest, most transparent people in the business. They have done countless streams and updates on their project.
Let’s not forget, it was EA that ruined Mythic (and many other studios) and Warhammer Online. MJ did his best under the circumstances. Not to mention, DAOC is still one of the top PvP mmo’s ever created.
He has not been without mistakes as he repeatedly admits. MMO’s take time to build and they are building an engine from scratch that can actually handle the massive amounts of players in the same area that we want.
I’m a backer and I want the game to release too. But, I don’t want another unfinished MMO. Willing to wait for a complete product. He has and still continues to offer refunds on pledge packages. Not to mention he is also on the hook for millions of his own dollars.
Time will tell if he will ultimately deliver, but attacks on him as a scammer are completely unjustified.
I miss the good ole days, back in late 2013 and early 2014 when the CU fanboys used to troll the ESO forum here about how CU was the much better game and they were willing to wait the "few extra months" to play that instead... 72 months later...

I only want to hear 1 thing out of his mouth, and that is a release date. Anything else is not worth my time.
But if he gave us a new release date, would you believe it? He has proven to either be utterly dishonest or drastically incompetent when estimating dates for CU so far.
This game better be all that and bag of potato chips. But, I have serious doubts. At this point, he'd be better off upgrading the graphics on DAoC, taking lessons learnt from Warhammer Online, and releasing a shiny/improved DAoC 2. Maybe EA will let him have his old job back, he can shovel BS fairly well, surely he can shovel some BS to EA's CEOs and promise them their stocks will improve and they'll sell a large amount of "surprise mechanics".

Scammer no, iiar and / or incompetent, absolutely.
You know MMOs take time to make, I know they take long to make, but apparently Mark has no clue considering he made the two year delivery promise, not either one of us.
I think far too much blame has been laid on EAs doorstep over the failure for WAR, Mark made them delivery promises same as here, yet failed to deliver on them, same as here. Corporate masters do not tolerate such incompetence.....
He’s really to blame for both.....he is the expert and should know better....

Its just like the CEOs which are also pretty incompetent sometimes. Once in the position your are allowed to screw up one company after another and people still pay you.
If you are new and want to get there you cannot allow such miscalculations. Especially when working for other industry branches like automotive or gas/oil. But as soon as you had the job once....
I mean being a bit late...being it 5 instead of 4 years. Ok. We are now over 4 years late with a budget transgression of what? 200%? 300%?
And now blaming corona. Idk but working in homeoffice is standard in IT with mostly even offshore teams working in another country. People are searching for jobs because companies closed. Then blaming corona for slow work and lack of new devs is wrong imo. But maybe I missed something here.

This is exactly right , MJ lied and decieved the War community more than once ...
I also add that yea the EA hate was unjustified , even with an additional year after launch MJs Team could not deliver what was promised in Classes/Skills /Cities and a stable game in War , as EA continued to pump money in ..
And why he was fired ....
I see the same pattern with him and CU here and had discussions here years ago about it ..

That's all he had to do in the first place. Just remake DAoC with modern graphics, it's a fucking gold mine waiting to happen but apparently Jacobs just doesn't get it.

That'd be kind of hard since he no longer owns it

But think of it this way: They're 7-8 years into the development of CU with no end in sight, and it's just a PvP game with almost no PvE content. Imagine if they had to take the time to add in all the PvE that DAoC had. How much time and money would that take?
Also, just for laughs, here's a quote from a 2018 MOP article where they talked to Jacobs again. It's a quote from the article, not a direct quote of him:
"As for the commercial launch: While there’s the remotest possibility of hitting 2018, don’t count on it – it would require a ramp-up or acquisition that even $7.5 million isn’t going to buy on short notice. 2019, however, is very likely."
