As a Free to Play game, many would expect players to find a lot of items available for those looking to pay their way to the top. In actuality, Phantasy Star Online 2 is pretty fair with their cash shop. You can play the entirety of the game free, with some limitations, and still get a substantial number of the rewards. Free players have limits to their bank space, their mission rewards, they won’t be able to start their own shop, and they are limited to taking half of the missions at a single time as players who pay for the premium services.
...and then goes on to say, Pros: Generous free to play payment model
In my opinion, this isn't even close to 'generous'. It's borderline bearable, and can only take you so far. For people that hasn't played pso2 before, 'Own/player shops' is basically the auction house here. Though I believe and recalled, once in a while, as a free player, you do get timed coupons/shop tickets or something along those lines for you to start your own shop. What about the housing/own room system? Is it totally locked out to free to play accounts?
In fact, these limitations and cash shop approach were very close to what I've experienced many years ago.
Having played the JP version, meh. It's a fun little filler game but there's nothing compelling about it. The combat starts fun and gets stupid at endgame with everyone just jumping into the air and attacking midair (which somehow keeps you airborne.....).
If it was open world I would give it a go but im not into instanced/hub based games
Whats that got to do with what I posted are you implying that bdo is instanced somehow? I don't get it

So many F2P games coming this month... PSO2, Crucible, Shadow Arena. My guess is everyone will be playing Crucible(because it's from Amazon and will be sponsored on twitch probably). I'm not sure if this particular game will hold a test of times, but my bet is 4 years max, following shutdown sometime in 2024.
Not sure how a PVE game if it has a horrible story with an unfriendly user interface with a system that will probably turn off newbies can be rated so high. I won't even talk about how dated it looks even compared to other dated games.
I don't necessarily have any real hope that the game will be good or even halfway decent. Just to be clear.

I've been waiting years to play this game like alot of other folks and while I've grown more dubious of the microtransactions and loot box systems they have included I want to get some closure by knowing I played it. I'll do about 2 months max and make piece with my PSO admiration. Sega really missed an opportunity to get a huge slice of the mmo market in the west years ago when the game looked new and S.Korea had barely came in. PSO was the Destiny of its time and being able to appeal to the weaboos could have made it stand out. Sega has made the most bizarre decisions with their IP.
I was hyped for this but with MS making PC players wait so they can sell Xboxes is a big no from me. The game is a 8 year old PC game in JP and most of the PC players from here playing on JP servers are not going to give up on their progress to play here. I have a feeling the PC version of this here will suck. Because they refuse to even talk about it.
Another Asian cookie cutter graphic mess of a mmorpg. Sad to see the mmorpg genre fading away instead of some type of originality being injected.
It's not made for the American or European market so I'm not surprised it is what it is. That being said, I'm not interested in any currently available MMORPG because it's not VR. Carpal tunnel will eventually be the most common bottleneck for any gamer at this rate.
I'd rather the MMORPG fade away into VR-mania than continue the way you would want it. I'm not interested in originality. You can only dress up a pig so many ways before it's just another pretty pig.
Keyboard and mouse input or controller input have been around for long enough. If anything, VR would be more original.
The game is too easy, and it costs money to play. Its not free. Do you want to be able to sell your items? Game is old too, $15 for premium? Yikes.
This will be your PSO2 experience...do the same emergency quests over and over with no risk of dying, follow the mag building guide and be the same as everyone else. Get the same skills and gear and do the same things everyone did before you like getting in line. Make sure to fork out 60 bucks on that shitty sonic pack too.
Oh and since your on PC, the server you get to start on isnt fresh, its infested with xbox players who already have tons of the same gear for sale, so the price is trash. Have fun farming for items of no value.
This is a total fail. Im not giving them a dime after they held the game back for 8 years from us, they can go F themselves. We supported them, and they left us out, and did it again when it was brought to xbox.
I'm not a weeb as mentioned by another comment and I want to play. In fact I already have and enjoyed what I played so far although the menus are confusing.
I was also confused by the classes because I was hardcore into pso on Dreamcast. I even imported ep2 just so I could play it 6 months sooner than my friends.
I'd be playing this daily except I'm waiting to see if the PC version has crossplay with Xbox. I have an Xbox one X and the game runs just fine but it will run even better on my 2080ti.
Anyways the game is best played with friends. It may not be the most complex combat ever but there is one thing PSO always had going for it.. well 2 things and that was playing with friends and the other was finding some rare weapon.
The first time I found a Double Saber in the original PSO I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I had multiple characters but my main had over 3700 hours on it and that's just the Dreamcast version... I probably put another 500 (at least) into the original Xbox version.
Two of the people I met on PSO Dreamcast all those years ago are still friends to this day. I can't say that about any other game.
This entire series is nothing but fantastic memories. From the wonder I felt playing the original RPGs to my first experience with an online rpg. So glad they finally decided to release it here.
Watching gameplays on Twitch shows the game should have stayed both in Japan and in 2012.
That UI is just awful. And you will be spending most of your time as a newbie asking questions than playing the game because of just about zero tutorials

Eh there's actually an NPC that is part of a quest that has a ton of tutorials on what each system does and how to do things. Half the quests early on show you exactly what you need to do as you level.
UI is pretty awful though, but mainly because there's a bunch of menus and if you want to go through the tutorials, you actually have to read.

lol you could say the exact same thing about any MMO, no, pretty much any game ever. You still run the risk of failing urgent quests and advanced quests quite often.
Just like any other game you'll have build guides that people follow to the letter and that's just rehashed over and over.
You don't have to spend anything to sell your items, you can sell them to any NPC, if you want to mark up your items or sell to players, yeah, buy premium, it costs the same as just about every other subscription MMO in existence at 15 a month.
Sounds like you're pretty jaded as a whole. Also theres tons of sonic merchandise on the auction house you can buy it and not spend a dime of real money on it In fact most of the sonic gear only goes for a measly 100K meseta, which is chump change when you consider daily and weekly quests net you over a million.

The populations gonna be 0. The majority of the people we wanted to play the game 8 years ago already have. There was a pso tweaker app that let us play the game overseas. There was a good jap server that all the Americans played on for a good 4, 5 years. I played it thru and was done with it. Got the best gear. Weapons. Leveled my pet to ultimate. My question is... why would I start over and play it again? Actually i did just to see maybe 2 people in game running around looking lonely. It's old and clunky. I've found new solace in SAOs fatal bullet. Not trying to sell it or anything just wanted to say it's practically the same game just newer and smoother. I dunno if you really wanna have a go with it be my guest but your just gonna be disappointed. Imo.

Not sure what you're talking about but PSO2 is always pretty packed on ship01. Most of the instances are pretty full. Can't speak to the other ships, and I'm not disappointed in it at all.
Playing and having fun, along with lots of other players.
This is the problem with "gamers" most are too obsessed with graphics. I am not a fan of pso2 but compared to the unfinished trash we get from AAA companies lately this is a side title for a mmo. Sure it's old but honestly what mmo is not. Story telling, well I cant say as I cant play it due to only having a pc. But it cant be worse then tera or hell wow at this point. (Their story is beyond jumbled).

Yet again another eight year old game that is old as hell, can someone please bring a triple A title third person mmo with a trinity system that is not a fucking sandbox moba isomteric view over head view tab target combat system and another battler royal stop it already, how about a great story great end game not a crowd funded rip off I mean really folks people still talking about the crappy outdated WOW give it a rest already that game is trash along with blizzard and activision. NOT A KOREAN MMO EITHER FOR GAWD SAKES, guess I have lost my mind with wishful thinking time to take up skeet shooting I guess.
What makes it any different from the other Asian MMO crap we have seen ported to the west?
Ignore the part where he rants about the game not releasing in the west. Start at 2.28...You can have a pretty good idea why this game is good from this video.
I also jumped through the hoops to play the game in Japanese.
Maybe some players just hate the Japanese? Perhaps they still can't get over Pearl Harbor for some reason? Even though America dropped atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And honestly...<REDACTED>...
Yea that's it dude....I can't get over an attack that happened 30 years before I was born. And yea....they got what was coming to them at the time. Don't start none won't be none....
As for me personally, I don't have anything against Asians, that's a stupid thing to even imply.....but I do have plenty against Asian style MMOs based off giving them a chance time and time again and them sucking in the same ways time and time again.
