Only if you accept the quest there is PvP right? They are not going to impose this on everyone regardless right? This is a test server.
On the Test Server? Hard to say, but it is the test server so really won't matter in the long run.
As I understand it from the Dev letter, when it goes live this will be on a special limited time server with a level cap so I don't see anyone just randomly deciding to go there for the PvE.
The only reason people will go there will be for OW Pvp.
My question will be how they'll manage to keep the 2 sides more or less evenly numbered, since if everyone just goes with the 1 faction, Pvp's going to be abit lacking, same if there's a massive imbalance.
As far as this whole thing goes I guess with the death of Chris Tolkien, who ever now runs the estate isn't so worried about J.R.'s legacy.
would be interesting to see what players think once the event is over.
Considering it's just a vocal few on the forums always wanting this I think that's the big question. They'll of course will point to the beginning numbers 'LOOK how many wanted it!', but the true result will be how many at mid and end point.
They are looking at ways to revitalize the game of course, but this won't be it.
Not sure what the level cap is, but deeds will most likely be kill this many of other faction, gather this many berries from berries in other factions areas, very generic stuff.

Yep, when AoC did the Saga of Blood, it also had a short early boost period then toned down - and AoC has a vocal pvp side.
I just fail to see who is their target audience with this move... but I wrote that already at the roadmap when they first announced this incoming pvp server.
A vast majority of the players never touch pvp (according to Sapience's numbers, I doubt it had any upward changes since then, with PvMP kinda neglected), and the rest are interested in the good v. evil theme. Creeps like to play their own classes...
As a matter of fact, a server around that could be a much more viable option, as Gut said above: open up the 'Moors and let the creep out. At least that would draw in most of the present pvp players. But a freep v. freep scenario? The game ain't built with that in mind.
That's my main concern (as I wrote before too), the probable changes.
Best case, SSG will ignore all the whining about the class inbalances, and after the server closes life can move on as if this short episode has never happened.
However, if they start to tweak things for the sake of the mythical "pvp balance", that could end up bad.
The same has almost killed AoC once, and it was still in its early period...
LotRO has 13 years behind its back, with a ton of content and a few full class revamps, all based on PvE and around them classes working together, not against each other.
For that they've had the MP side, which they could tweak for balancing the two sides, without negatively affecting the main game.
The first update after this server goes live will tell a lot, I believe...
I've always wanted to level my Creep through 120+ levels through content/quests also, from the Creep perspective.
Missed opportunity...but I guess not 'lore appropriate'....blah
It'd take too much work, especially at the current state of the game... they barely can keep the two Updates / year on the free people's side, if they shall come up with the same amount of Creep content they'd throw the towel in.
Would be fun though, 'Moors has some really good quests.
("What? You actually went out? You'll be a perfect material for our troops maggot, looks like you're stupid enough to march into certain death by command.")
And for the 'lore appropriate' concern, I believe that's out of the window by now, with this server. The twins are almost like one person they're so close, and now they clash free people against each other at a whim?
Especially during the time of the Fellowship (the server will be only the first 50 levels), with the shadow of Angmar creeping down and they could fight against that, but no, they rather  on how elves and dwarves beat hobbits outside Bree just for some points on a scoreboard.
Yep, that's exactly how Tolkien imagined the scene.

To true; they'd basically be having to build another entire game 'creep land' with all the regions east of Mordor for the creeps to level in and then change some of the current games regions to reflect the Pvp area's; I'd go with Helm's Deep for sure, but maybe Rohan and then from there to Mordor, with all of those area's being overlap for both sides.
As for lore, that would be keeping with what's laid out in the books so much more lore appropriate than this new server. After all, all they'd be doing is 'replacing' the creep NPC's we fight with player's.
Set up separate instances for those over lap area's so you zone in either PvE or PvP to keep everyone apart. Might make some money, but never enough to recoop the costs of designing a new game area.

Well, that was fast... less than a week (hate to see when my concerns turn out to be valid)
Just a summary in nutshell:
-server went up, forum got filled with "broken", "imba", etc. (couldn't be a surprise to anyone, as I said earlier the game has 13 years with class cooperation design its back, LotRO classes aren't built to fight against each other)
-cry for nerfs and buffs, which have arrived in mere days after the launch.
It could already be a shaky ground even if pvp server only, but in both cases (guard and beorning nerfs) Cord added "This change will be applied to all servers in a future patch."
-when called out by the other players, why make general changes to the game for the sake of a temporary server which will be gone in weeks, there was just silence.
Then finally yesterday they could come up with the cop-out answer of:
the changes were not for pvp, they were planning it for long, but they had to rush it in to the pvp server because "That the change was implemented first to the Tournament was simply a
reflection of how unbalanced it was, in that the change couldn't wait."
Strange, before the pvp server I fail to remember anyone mentioned this big "unbalanced" state of them... (maybe I just ain't a frequent bear player)

Gut Out!
What, me worry?

Not something I'd enjoy mind you.
