Its actually six years old. Not that I don’t agree, but still, most six year old games already show their age.

This is a game I have been watching from the side lines and never tried. Is it worth a few bucks to kill some time?

How about Pearl Abyss will pay you to play.  That would be a decent reason.  If it was somewhere around $15+/hour.

Really loved this game. My favorite MMO last year. I wish more MMOs replicate its impactful combat & character generation.

Having impactful combat and good graphics will only take a game so far.  There must be more than this to keep me playing an MMORPG long term.  Especially if they expect me to spend money on it.

Anyway, are you saying that you no longer play BDO?

EDIT:  Life skills are cool and all, but it seemed to me that grinding mobs was much more efficient in terms of accumulating wealth.  And what does wealth really do for you in BDO that is more important or equally as important as allowing you more chances to upgrade your gear?

MMORPGs have trouble simulating real economies because they have removed the need for characters (PCs, NPCs, and Mobs) to eat, drink, and rest.  Clothes, equipment, and other items in the vast majority of MMORPGs do not wear out, rust, or get damaged beyond repair.  The basic needs of food, water, shelter, and clothing are what all real world economies are based upon.  Plus the need to repair or replace items that break or wear out.

Dont let this article trick you. This game is trash. No endgame, pvp is a joke due to attack & Defense brackets, you get penalized for trying to upgrade your accessories, and they consider grinding 40+ hours for a infinite health potion content.

Also they dont even follow their on road map. No penalties for cheaters and exploits.

    This game is dying.

The only thing thats holding off this game demise is the new area they were supposed to drop which is gonna be the same old bs. With a new p2w armor.

    P2w cash shop
    Pop in graphics
    Server Lag
World Boss and Regular boss with horrible hit boxes to make it seem like their challenging

While I really cant disagree with most of the opinions here, the only real problem I had with it was that there is really no endgame and there is nothing to do besides grind. This opinion also comes from a non-min/maxer who just bought tri/tet gear and didn't bother with the enhancement system.

Again, there is nothing to do here, no reason to get that super awesome next piece of gear... even the guild content has been ignored and not updated for ages. Shame cause there was a lot of potential in this game, in my opinion.

There's enough that they do differently that it's worth a month or two. That's about how long I lasted in it when it first released.

Building a boat and actively fishing is fun for a bit and so is finding and taming your own horses.

The combat is way over the top with the GFX but you can tune that down a lot in the options.

Just don't expect great quests from that annoying black blob or anywhere else. You grind and then grind some more to level. PvP is all about fighting over good grinding spots lol, but you don;t need to deal with that until level 40+ or it may be 50+ now.

All I really needed to know about BDO was that it was a game with unavoidable open PK everywhere outside of town. I don't have even the slightest bit of interest in that crap, so gave the game a complete pass. I even have two copies of it that I got for free (one through Steam during BDO's last anniversary, and a non-Steam one for per-registerring for the mobile version). Funny thing about BDO is that instead of taking the things people complained about, and improving BDO, they instead took all that to their mobile version. It has no unavoidable PKing, it has fast travel, you can keep feeding enhancement materials until you have a 100% success chance, instead of dealing with RNG, and fail stacks, and other such things.

Also near as I can tell, what they were trying to make with BDO was just an open world C9 (Continent of the Ninth), with intrusion mode active at all times when outside of town, which isn't surprising since some of the core members behind BDO, used to work on C9. The combat system people keep going on about being so good in BDO, sounds like what was put in C9, but the PvE content sounds like it was gimped in BDO from what C9 has. Since I was already playing C9, and wanted nothing to do with that PK crap, I've just stuck with C9.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would care one little bit about the story in an online game. Play them for the game play, and stick to single player games for a good story.

The thing with online games, and their story is that just like long running TV series, and the like, even if it starts out really well, over time they either really start to decline, or they had the wisdom to end it before it went bad. Although since with online games they try to drag it out as long as possible, then never even try to put a rushed ending to it before it is shut down, you'll never get a proper ending. You can pretty much bet on the story going to hell in time, especially since after a while, everyone that was involved in it at the start, will likely have left the project for one reason, or another. While there could be some exceptions where they try to make more of an effort to keep the story in good shape, generally speaking, that's not how it goes.

Yep - the guild and group content has basically been given minimal attention - because that's not what's bringing in the cash.

What they keep doing is - add a new class that is overpowered - people jump on the new class, and then they realize they need to buy weight, costumes, inventory space etc... new class - new weapons meaning - players are going to spend money to enhance primary weapon, offhand and awakeneing to TET at least - which means - lots of artisian memories sold - CHA CHING, then crohn stone those - which means lots of $30 costumes melted - CHA CHING.

Then - get a new class ready - nerf the hell out of the previously released class, release a new overpowered class - rinse and repeat!

There are 18 classes in BDO - 17 of which are DPS - a rinse and repeat process to milk players dry.

This is why there is no end-game - because they don't need any end game to make money - they just need to keep releasing new female classes with lots of TnA and skimpy outfits, and keep players spending in the cash shop by ridiculous RNG enhancment system where players keep breaking their gear and spending money to repair it

I have recently returned to BDO after a fairly long break, and i've got to say I still love this game - probably more than ever. It does have many love/hate elements to it, but overall I just can't stop playing. I wont lie though, if you do get into the game and enjoy it, be prepared to spend some money for the convenience items though. Some people (my guildies included) go full swipe mode, others not so much, and actually the gear difference between those two parties is either negligible or in a few cases the guys who have swiped less actually have more. For me personally I've treated it like my old WoW or FFXIV subscriptions and put about the same into BDO as I would have into them over the years. I also only safe enhance if i can get the crons for free, or via in game money from melting down central market bought costumes, but mostly I just buy upgrades directly from the market that others have made, so i've never spent r/l money to gain anything for RNG enhancing and neither have the majority of the players I know. You can do this, but it is by no means a definite I WIN nor would i recommend anyone do it unless they have money to throw away...

For new players catching up can seem like an issue, but being an officer in a guild that takes in new players, it is clear that the catch-up potential at the moment is pretty good, we have had 3 of ours reach softcap in around 3 months thanks to the free TRI boss gear and weapons currently being given out. The current life skill event has allowed for them to also reach high lifeskill levels really quickly, which in turn gives them a greater source of income. So yeah, pretty good for newbies right now.

Don't get me wrong, the game is by no means perfect and has a number of pretty irritating issues, but overall I have more fun with it than I do disappointment. Could the game be something far greater, absolutely, but then the same could be said about pretty much all games.

It's a great casual game with years worth of content for anyone who doesn't plan to no life it. BDO has more meaningful things to do than any other MMO on the market right now so you always have something to do when you log on. Do your fever hour mob grind, tame a horse, kill some sea monsters, hit up a guild quest, do a node war, kill some rift bosses, do open world raids, etc. You've always got something to do.

I still give it a hearty thumbs down for anyone who has a drive to reach "end game" or acquire best in slot gear to compete at the top level. Doing so requires spending a fortune in the abusive cash shop. Stay well clear unless you're a filthy casual like me.

I burned out on combat after about a month and most of the tradeskills just seemed to be wasting time and overly complex.
