If i could grasp their familiars and expert dungeons idea on a piece of paper,i would set a world record for throwing it the furthest.
It would also be nice if knowledgeable people at websites would help the cause, ask the right questions instead of email box, copy paste post article.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know the game NEEDS players, how do Familiars and higher difficulty dungeons help that problem? How do EITHER of those ideas help players that don't have an over abundance of CHOICE to group or raid? Why the hell do i even care about Familiars, they are pointless, just fluff.
I wish a REAL gamer would sit down with these developers and hand them a good can of wake the hell up.
ADDRESS your needs, don't just give up and focus on a cash shop item and an idea that takes about 2 minutes to implement.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I think Everquest at this point is just so top heavy that any new players are immediately intimidated and are most likely permanently left out of the loop without inside help from friends who have been playing.
And nobody is clamoring to join this game now, any attempt to breathe life is just gonna be met with failure cause it's fairly outdated at this point. The layers upon layers of complex mmo systems that make up actually advancing in EQ2 are esoteric and arcane to anyone attempting a raw run, much more so when compared to modern sleeker day online games.
There's not life here, and the devs are catering to what is there- not what is never going to be. That ship has sailed.

Which developers? They fired them all long time ago.
With the exception of a year or so after EQ2 launched I have not played the current version just on the Time Locked Servers.
I do recall @Nanfoodle complaining that his wife and he tried quite hard to break into the elite raiding groups in their guild and never quite managed it. Looks like the guilds in EQ2 are not interested in new blood even when they show interest. This does not bode well for the growth of the game.
It was fun back-in-the-day before the change in owners, and before they started making the boring system expansions of rinse-repeating for ever new forms of currencies to buy the ever new armor/weapon sets. So boring... I miss the fun days... At this point my only hope is Pantheon the only real EQ2 (or 3) we're going to likely ever see.

Ya we tried with more than a few guilds. All excited to see new blood. All teams and raids worked like clockwork. People would just magically log in at set hours. Make their teams or raids, when the event was over, poof they would log off. This was the case for many months and wife were sad to cancel our sub.

I can answer your questions now that I have been playing this game for over 3 months.
I am a bit peeved because I didn't understand what people were advising me when I asked about upgrading my expansion pack to collector's edition to the fabled familiar for every one of my 9 alts. They told me to wait for season 8 and I didn't understand the reason for waiting since I needed a better version of the familiar.
See every season the familiars that come out are superior to the season before. Which is understandable or else they would not be able to sell the familiar packs on their store. The familiars come in treasured which is the lowest quality, legendary , fabled and celestial. The familiar while summoned and active gives a flat out bonus to the your primary stats. The legendary season 8 gives about 11.7% I think (don't quote me on that) and the fabled about 12.3%. I had the fabled from season 7 from the collector's expansion pack at at level 1 it has only 9%. You can imagine I am a bit peeved over it but I got it primarily to run the overseers' quests and to reduce the chance of a mishap with better quality ones you can reduce the mishap chances even further when you run the quests that your agents are captured or injured.
There is a daily quest you can do on every toon you have and it gives a free one but you get mostly treasured familiars which you can then feed to your summoned familiar to level them. Someone said it takes 150 years to level a celestial familiar this way feeding it treasured familiars daily. You can get legendaries and the chance for a Celestial familiar on the daily quest is 1%. One or two of my guildees got it last week. I was so very jealous. I don't have that kind of luck but I have gotten legendaries and a fabled one so far from the quest. Considering I have so many alts I run the quest a lot so the odds do go up.
The familiars can be levelled to level 10 which will increase the flat bonus. There are potions you can get to level your familiar which I often get on my overseer quests so levelling them is not an issue for me.
I do have many alts not because I play all of them I actually only actively play 3 , the others I use to run the overseers quests that can net you good mercenaries and may be a good familiar crate. I managed to get as a reward a celestial merc.
So when you're moloing that is soloing with a merc that flat out stat boost is very , very useful. So this is why you need to have a familiar.
AS for end game I think now that I am in a good guild that not being able to do end game content is all dependent on your guild. I am luckily in a good one for people are always doing stuff together and also alone. I have many completionist guildees which are just like me that stay in an area until I have exhausted every quest and content available for a tier before I turn the experience back on and move on. So if you were unlucky @Nanfoodle the correct guild may have been a very different experience. My guild do not raid often though because it is an extremely casual one. Very helpful people who make spells and combats art to the maximum quality crafted for every one is my guild. They are very generous. I was lucky in my pick of the guild.
I never played this game over 3 months ,geesh i spent more than 3 months on my return to a reboot server.I played this game for about 5 years and then on/off for many more years lol. This studio was focusing on "Familiars"BEFORE this expansion they have been treating Familiars as their MAIN source of income. I know full well what the mercs do AND the Familiars i own several on several accounts.
I gave up on the game again because from about the time Smedley introduced cash shop gaming they put little focus into the game and way more into the cash shop and that trend has never changed.
When they added the umm what is it called, the AA's that was a scam in itself that idk but seemed it went right over everyone's head. You NEED those AA's but to take full advantage you need to pay.I also happen to leave the game for a full year before and returned after they added the AA's.My player was where i left it doing content in some jungle and what i noticed was that my player was incredibly weaker.
SO what they did was nerf characters then make you pay to get AA's to get the same equivalent character back.Even with loads of AA my characters never felt any better than when i left for a year and partially due to how all studios manipulate the formulas to dumb down all those high end numbers people see on gear.
I'll cut it right here and now and just say "I AM DONE" with developers trying to scam me for more money than they deserve".That is why i have not been playing ANY mmorpg's for about 2 years now and if i did return it would be to a f2p private server.

Ya I may have been unfortunate. I did try many guilds over a few months. Every guild was quick to invite new blood but turned out very cliqueish. Im happy you found a good one. If we ever try EQ2 again, I may send you a DM to see what server you are on.

You can earn AA's easily by not hurrying through the game at level 40 I have 200 points. I am nowhere near the max level of 120 and 350 points. My character is able to solo heroics in dungeons easily. I have done heritage quests on my own and taken on end bosses in dungeons when they were even level or one level above to me. Not every class can do it but I am playing a beastlord with a pet and merc.
AA's are an amazing introduction since it is lateral advancement. You are also automatically awarded AA's at certain levels and this was a change from before where you had to earn every point.
You can play using the free familiars you earn from the daily familiar quest. They are more than enough to get you through the game. Most people do not put their points correctly in the alternate advancement and end up becoming weak at certain levels. You need to look at every skill and check other people's builds to make a good build for yourself. This is a complicated game not one you can waltz through.
The game can be played for free and you can earn things by advancing slowly. I wanted to experience the game in full so I bought the the subscription and also the collector's edition because the last expansion I bought was Kingdom of Sky ages ago in 2006, so I needed the latest expansion or else I could not get some of the content which is fair.
You're spouting nonsense about AA. You do not have to pay to get AA just play the game and you can earn it from the experience you earn by allotting a percentage to AA. Alternate advancement is a very good system in EQ2. You seem to not understand it or take advantage of it properly and convinced yourself that you need to spend money to play this game.
You need a subscription which I think is perfectly fine and I would not advocate playing it for free because you won't be able to use grandmaster spells or combat arts. However you do not need to spend money on anything else. I do it to both to support and enjoy the game.
The overseer quests that you can do as a subbed account will earn you potions to train your familiar, merc and mount. Everything can be gotten with just a subscription and many people in my guild are at 120 and playing fine and soloing dungeons with just a subscription.
Your rant is highly mistaken and false in some regard.
