This patch is a good news for two reason: bring more substance to flight model (among others things like turrets) requested by community. Second, this is required for SQ42.
With SQ42 Beta coming Q3 2020 this is definitely good news.

Its just a few weeks away now. Finally, all the haters and naysayers will be silenced. Soon they will be able too see for themselves how the almost finished game looks like. In a few weeks...
To be honest, I don't even expect SQ42 beta to start in Q3 because of Covid. IT won't either bother me as there is no reason, after years of development to rush because a date. Naysayers will cry to the ennnnd and CIG will delveir whan ready. Business as usual
I don't think anyone would be bothered too much if RSI just announced something like they're running late and new target date is 3 months later.
Right now the bigger issue is that RSI has gone dark about it.
"going dark" is may be a bit over dramatic. They will communicate before end of Q3, delay won't even be a surprise for anyone. To me they are still trying to be at the progress state they were expecting when saying Q3. Anyway this Q3 date is not important. Duration of beta is unknown (I count on at least 2 full quarters) so starting Q3 and then taking more time in beta than expected would allow to still reach Q3.

But Joe, SQ42 Beta Q3 2020 is THE date. The date you have used to shut haters up, to make fun of their failed predictions and time lines, to mock them. I told you roughly a year ago you shouldn’t make fun of others’ their predictions when your own haven’t come true yet because when they wouldn’t you would look like a fool.
And here we are, with another delay and another reason as to why. Doesn’t matter for CIG and the fans in the slightest, it does make you look bad though, as in 90 days tops bad. Guess your predictions are just as bad, should we make fun of you too now?
/Cheers, Lahnmir
Right at the March lockdowns, I predicted the Covid crisis would be good for another year of RSI delay excuses.
Of course, just about two years ago I wrote that every year it would be the same excuses (though the claimed reasons might be different). If it weren't for the past history of delays, micromanagement, hubris, and company failure, it wouldn't be as trenchant an issue.
Same as it ever was.....
ohh, the delays are no surprise. They also don’t bother me, I am a patient man.
What does bother me is the smirky attitude some have when they mock and try to shut up those with a different view. Especially when they use the same lame arguments as those they are accusing. And when that fails miserably, and all of a sudden everything is perfectly fine, I laugh a bit.
I think the abandoning of the roadmap is a bit symbolic in this situation. CIG removed their accountability and replaced it with a literal carte blanche. And the “true” fans are totally cool with that, CIG can do whatever they want and they find that perfectly fine.

Dont be so negative. Beta will be out in Q3 in line with the plan.

There's the key point, "duration of beta is unknown," could be 2 quarters as you suggested, could be 2 years depending on how things go during testing.
Will be interesting to see which figure it ultimately ends up being closer to.

I gave up on the game, when they said they spent 100 million on vocie acting, when the game was supposed to be be a space exploration game or something similar to say no man's, emporium, eve online, x4, and elite. No one cares in any of those games if we have a 100m dollar vocie actor or not haha.
I mean its like saying you think no man sky would of been such a better game if Patrick steward and Johnny deep did voice acting in the game hahah.
Except that no one from CIG / RSI ever said that they spent 100 million on voice acting and you made that up.

That thought - beta duration unknown - crossed my mind as well. They certainly had ample opportunity to announce a slip last year - they announced a quarter slip to SC for example - and didn't.
And certainly don't believe is that their external investors have simply "gifted" the game money; they will expect a return. Nor did they need - as you picked up - have to exercise their option to buy another c. 5% of the company. Funding so far this year has gone well etc. Which suggests things are going OK - for some definition of OK. With "beta" starting sooner rather than later.
And maybe - especially if some stuff has slipped - they will announce that they are moving into phased beta testing; with each stage having specific objectives etc.
It will indeed be interesting to see if they announce a target finish - with the caveat of course.
