At my job, we're permitted to listen to music while we work, buy my work laptop stopped recognizing headphones and default to both speakers and headphones, which is obviously no good because I can't distract everyone else. Which I've tried skullcandies, then ordered another brand that worked literally once.
I've attempted to fix the issue through multiple guides. Headphones don't show up in the audio manager, even when disabled devices are shown.
Is the problem with the audio jack itself? And if so, would buying a pair of wireless bluetooth earbuds be a potential remedy.

Often it's a Realtek driver gone skitzo.
You can also check the output source in the Windows mixer. For example, nVidia drivers love to goof this up when they update (they auto-install HDMI audio sources and mess with existing audio output for some unknown reason)
A last resort - get a USB set of headphones (or a USB-3.5mm adapter, or Bluetooth headset). They should show up as their own audio source with their own drivers and will completely go around your internal sound card.
If the bluetooth works, I might go that route.

Even better option audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlet Solo. Pretty much an external sound card, but 100% better.
Depends on if you are talking about a cheap Chinese external usb sound adapter, or a high quality external sound card.
