Today it was announced that Daybreak Games has acquired Cold Iron Studios, which is currently working on a cross platform game set in the Alien universe. The undisclosed game in question will continue its development despite the acquisition.

I hope that you're not referring to Landmark as minecraft-esque cause it was SO far removed from that lol.
Best building game ever but alas they screwed that up too.
Good Luck To Daybreak
Viktor Vekselberg owns Daybreak, Russian billionaire oligarch, has just a few more assets than $5 and a pack of gum.
So in this case i would imagine like so many businesses struggling during the Covid outbreak they ran short on funds and sought out help.Even more baffling however is that who would have thought Daybreak could afford to acquire a new studio.I guess money and bank loans are easy to get lol.My assumption would be they see this as an easy return on their investment and merely just helping out a studio that no longer had the funds to finish their game.
IMO a smart move by DBG,not that i am interested in playing an Aliens game myself but i am sure it is mildly popular.I did enjoy the movies however, the first few anyhow.

Been 4 years since they cancelled EQ Next and all we've heard was Holly say they were working on EQ3 before she quit to work on WoW classic. At present EQ1 and 2 are overbloated messes and Daybreak has nothing worthwhile in their stable.
Aliens the arcade game was pretty good.
My guess is the cash shop from DCUO. Those addictive time capsules.
All they had to do was keep Landmark open and expand the land mass. My favorite building game.
Landmark was never supposed to be a long term, stand alone game, rather it was a core foundation module for EQ Next.
Smed didn't have the necessary funding to build EQN, so within a few months of its announcement Landmark suddenly landed in the news.
Much like AOC tried to monetize their BR test env, or CUs Ragnarok, Colossal Betrayal, or even Curt Shillings studio releasing a single player game first to continue funding of the rest of the development.
I'm sure once Daybreak saw how much work remained on EQN (and calculated the cost to complete) Landmark's days were numbered as it just didn't have enough support to deliver the expected funds.

i happen to have an interest in the game,i really hoped for the best and actually watched their videos they put out every week or so.What i saw during the videos was basically NOTHING,that told me right away they were doing nothing, likely the team was working on expansions for their other games.
Si i figured they were using Landmark as a building block for Next and then of course the 2 way profit ordeal was just another layer to fund next.
So far i have seen no interest or effort by DBG to do a damn thing except sit on it's assets.I really still don't get it,why buy a business to do nothing with it.Smedley made claims he joined with DBG because they were willing to allow him to expand in many directions, well i haven't seen one yet.
So imo this whole DBG ordeal is just about cashing in with as little effort as possible, restructure to avoid taxes and get government perks back and just keep pulling in whatever money it can for however it lasts. If DBG was intelligent in the very least and have money or the ability to get money which i assume they do,outsource a new Everquest game. This way you have no overhead and the business you hire is sort of under the gun to perform good work or they don't get paid.I mean just acquiring the EQ IP is good enough, now do something with it.

Did that have real sized assault rifles side by side on that machine? If so I agree with you!
