Is epic subsidizing $350 million to sega and CA? lol
I don't think anyone at Epic or CA/Sega anticipated it going this high but no doubt Epic will have worked in something capping the amount they'd subsidize them for. Probably some estimate based on their previous sales of Saga games?

I thought it was a response to Epic being kicked of Apple and Goggle? A big PR push showing how much they give away while the man keeps them down? Or at least that's what they want you to believe.
I did download it and will undoubtable play it, but as to when it could be a years time looking at my list of games to play.
I rarely find anything free on Epic worth more than a check on Metacritic for its score, they may have been better when they launched but I doubt they will tempt me with another title as good as this in 2020. There website is still not a patch on Steam for giving you information about the games they are selling and has no reviews.
Yeah nice try Epic. The game downloaded halfway and stalled out. I tried again numerous times with the same result. I ended up uninstalling their launcher. Not going to work with that piece of garbage even for free games.
The "saga" games have not done super well have they? I think they will do well on DLC for this one. My first attempt I didn't like it but on the third try I started to see the appeal. I would not have bought it but now am likely to get DLC. . win / win?
Maybe people who have not tried it before will buy other total war games as well like Warhammer which should be getting a third installment soon. They made the new player experience very good for this game so maybe that was a strategy as well.

It's not a response to the Epic/Apple case. The free Troy has been planned for months. I have known since June 2nd from the newsletter from Creative Assembly, that we would be able to get a free copy of Troy.
Well I forgot, and now I'm pissed cause it was only 24h so I uninstalled the Epic game store. Hope the people who follow my suite are more than the converts from the offer (since based on comments here 90% were just leechers).
I like steam way more than the epic game store, but I can't deny all the games they've given to me for free while at the same time never spending a single penny in their store.
For that reason alone I still keep it installed. Havent encountered any problems with it so far.

Finally someone who pays attention rather than just being some random Epic hater. This is also not the first game given away for free by Creative.
What people should be more worried about is after 17 years what has Steam done for you as a customer, what has Steam done for developers?

I downloaded it and played it for a while, but wasn't my cup of tea. Never played any Total War games, so maybe I'm missing something. Remnant, on the other hand, which is also free right now, is pretty great so far.
I didn't get it because I don't play that type of game as I am horrible at it. I didn't feel the need to get something I wouldn't play just because it was free.
total war games have a record of being horribly broken at launch, I usually get them 2-3 years later on a steam sale when all the bugs are ironed out. 7.5 million is quite impressive, but I wonder how many players, new to the franchise, will be turned off due to the myriad of bugs.

Created a digital marketplace that removed the need for video game players from having to go miles out to the closest brick and mortar store just to find said game is out of stock. And in terms of what steam has done for developers, gave them a platform to reach out to a wide array of people without the required publishing costs to create a physical distribution network. Say recently if you're asking what they have done for us within the last few years, but don't forget what they have done for everybody since conception.
Free games are usually worth what you paid for them and end up just as wasted hard drive space.
Well I got two Arkham games and subnautica free on Epic in the past. I'd say this game is at least playable for anyone that likes Total War games in general.
