How are people still funding kickstarters when we've been shown every mmorpg one has been a scam(except for maybe albion because it looks to be the least effort in making).

I don't think everyone has been shown to be a scam. That's pretty strong language.
Clearly, kickstarted mmorpg's have issues as far as development but stating that the developers are scamming people is probably a bit too much.

"...$25,364 raised...." You're kidding me right....? So many things, all having to do with stupidity, are going through my mind right now and I do not know how to proper express the level of scam this is....because unless that 'mmorpg' is gonna be a virtual board game, that aint enough for anything....hell its not even enough to pay people to develop ideas for a mmorpg let alone actually make one.
Will have to say the updated combat does look somewhat interesting.
There are a few MMOs that are niche but successful with little backing so maybe $25,000 is enough? project Gorgon, Eternal Lands, Grand Skea however I quickly searched MMO in Kickstarter and many projects do sadly get cancelled. although track record not the best I always do hope these MMOs succeed.

Since they already have a game made. They are looking to finish it. Now, is that enough? heck, who knows. But let's not go into the whole "that's not enough to make an mmorpg"(as it wouldn't be) As they are just bringing it across the finish line.
Which IS the way an mmorpg should be kickstarted. Not "we need money to make one" but "we have one and just need more to finish."

Thanks for explaining that Sovrath, i mean for sure i was questioning this too, now it makes sense.

This one interests me only because of the afterlife concept. The $25,000 amount seems a bit paltry, even for 'finishing' up a game. Since they are still working on combat, I'm going to assume that the $25k will cover that bit of work. Will there be another fund raising campaign for other development efforts -- adding lore, balancing characters, an smoothing animation. Maybe that's a good way to go by breaking up the funding for specific game-related functions, I don't know.
At this point, I am already expecting another KS campaign to raise more money before this game is released.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Optimism and desperation, with perhaps a dash of naivete from those not yet familiar with the track record of crowd-funded MMORPGs.

There is more than we will ever know with these games, how to cook the books, deception, possible investors behind the scenes, stolen work etc etc.
So this is a team of 2 people they released a game only a year ago,so they spent all of 1 year on this game, that seems about right as most KSr's games look like 3 months to 1 year worth of work.Typically a real studio with 100+ employees can pull off a decent game in a year but 2 people,no way,so your getting about 2-3 months worth of work.
Global lighting, again what i would expect from 2 people and that lighting is very sub par.Dated engine, could be reversed engineered from someone else's work.We simply don't know what and how a game comes about in just 1 year.
What i do know,it is not something i would play and i have no idea WHY any studio would dive into such a dated low budget looking game and expect success or be satisfied with their work.I personally wouldn't try to sell something like that,i wouldn't even attempt something half assed, either AAA or forget it is how i approach it.If i am going to spend my time and hard work making something,i do NOT want it to turn out half assed.I want to be able to show it off and feel like i really accomplished something that rivals or betters other games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Color me sceptic with how this went down. They had 16 backers for half of the campaign and not even 3000 raised. Then all of a sudden that backer number increased seven times (106 backers in the end) and total funding increased roughly times nine, 25.364. Average spent is 239 dollars, perhaps they mobilized friends and family in the end. I do lots on Kickstarter and have never seen this happen.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

My thoughts exactly. That's why I was surprised.
They apparently made another game, a survival horror game, that's on steam but it has mostly negative reviews because of bugs.
Maybe family pitched in? oh well.

Just curious. Does anyone know if this is using a pre-built MMORPG engine? I am curious if this group is doing any back-end/server/client coding, or simply building content.

Don't know. Can't find that info. I suppose I could ask on their discord but I just don't care about "discord."
I mean, it looks fine for an indy made game. If they can launch it I'll check it out. But that's a huge "we'll see."

- Divinity Original Sin's did well, and one of the best games in its genre there is.
- Ashes of Creation - Time will tell, but quite risk free as development already paid for, and starting to look way more promising.
- Shroud of the Avatar - ok not the best investment....
So its hit and miss I guess, but Past Fate - I feel by the time this actually releases it will be something you could run on a calculator.Core i5 13600KF, BeQuiet Pure Loop FX 360, 32gb DDR5-6000 XPG, WD SN850 NVMe ,PNY 3090 XLR8, Asus Prime Z790-A, Lian-Li O11 PCMR case (limited ed 1045/2000), 32" LG Ultragear 4k Monitor, Logitech G560 LightSync Sound, Razer Deathadder V2 and Razer Blackwidow V3 Keyboard
