First 30 minutes have been very positive for me. Combat is different than other MMOs, lots of tradeskills to level up, questlines, open world/areas, lots of weapons to level up, good game performance. (980GTX getting 60 FPS at max settings)

    Can't wait for launch.
    Good to hear....

There's too many people online right now. I was booted out and the queue length was way too long so I gave up.

I'll wait until tomorrow to give it a solid try.

Played for about an hour so far. Melee combat feels off. It’s a little too floaty and I feel disconnected from character. Ranged combat feels really good, though. Arrows and bullets feel impactful. I particularly love muskets so far. Crafting is meh so far but just getting my feet wet so don’t have strong opinion, yet.

Play for a week and I suspect you will find yourself getting bored, it looks good, crafting can keep you occupied but its either lots of running around or lacklustre pvp of 1 2 3 spam mouse button.

Yikes, combat feels almost as bad as in ESO (ok, ALMOST, of course nothing feels THAT bad).

I thought Dark Souls was what they were aiming for? Well, it feels absolutely nothing like the souls games.

War mode seems like a slight copy from Age of Conan Guild City sieges.

    -48 vs 48 in AoC  (50 v 50 in NW)

-Weekly vulnerability where a guild needs to sign up to attack you .

    -Center objective to win.

-In AoC, the winner generally keeps the city.  Not sure about NW.

If it can't handle 50 v 50 without lagging, that's a big red flag at this stage of development.  Imagine open world pvp with larger numbers?

Amazon needs to pull some magic, this looks like a niche game long term.  No appeal to serious pvprs or pvers.  Imo

It's crazy, and I know I shouldn't do comparisons but let's consider a few things

Amazon hired the top talent devs, rhey certainly have the money...and look at their results

Just look at New World - this is their flagship game

Now let's compare that to BDO - and I don't even like BDO

But in terms of world graphics, animations and melee combat the 2 games are not in the same league

You'd think with their lesser graphics New World would run better and have smoother animations more impactful combat... but on the contrary it is much worse

New world feels like a halfassed student project

Amazon - a damn shameful disgrace

I don't know what you are smoking, but I want some.

I will take New World graphics over BDO any day. Once you start fighting in BDO, there goes your.."amazing" graphics. Yes, that means BDO graphics are nice while you stand still or just..wonder around. Once the fight starts, I personally have a HARD time understanding wtf is going on around me.

Also, you are comparing BDO a live game for over 5 years with a closed beta game. Nice logic there!

Also they are different in style, mechanics, animation, etc, which I prefer New World over BDO, again, every day!

I seriously have to question your sense of judgement
If you say that new world melee combat is better than BDO?

Also animations are better than BDO?

    World graphics?

And you are asking me for what I am smoking?

    Ugh....

I don't even like BDO and yes there is something to be said for individual preference even with all that taken into consideration

Purely objectively speaking BDO has far better melee combat, far better animations

Ok, where did I said it has better Melee Combat? I was saying that the games are different in terms of..everything, including combat.

And yes, I like New World graphics better then BDO. I even find the animation more likable then BDO. I am not saying better, but they are somehow more acceptable to my eyes then BDO. What's wrong with that?!

Nothing wrong with preferring one game over the other.

Just wanted to be clear that when it comes to melee combat specifically there is no comparison

    Then go play BDO?

Joking! :) Anyway , I am not super excited about the Melee Combat in New World, but is not that bad. It has The Witcher 3 feel.

..and, speaking about The Witcher 3, I see many other similarities which is very nice.

They have a pretty solid game here. All they have to do is make it better until release, ESPECIALLY the end game content which MUST be above decent.

Also, I didn't see any dungeons in the game. Are there any? I really hope there will be when the game releases.

You're basing what you wrote on the idea that all those "top tier" devs are actually trying to do their best creating a game when they are really just prolonging that sweet sweet Amazon paycheck. Think about Amazon's film studio for a second. Most of the people working on those shows are set FOR LIFE. The difference between the game and film studio is the film studio has actual "talent" and the game studio are a bunch of leechers.

EVERY AGS game has been in development for about FIVE years yet not a single one is/was above a 5/10 with New World Battleground Arena rank maybe being about 6/10. This game was supposed to be out last May as a PVE & PVP MMO yet somehow they are still just working on a single battleground and struggling even with that. Release is now scheduled for next year which makes development time SIX years for a single battleground arena...

They cancelled Breakaway, they pulled Crucible and now they cut their MMO down to be a battleground arena with ideas copied straight from other games. While they are copying other game's features they are burning through hundreds of millions. Lets you and I both throw out a guesstimate number for how much we both think has been spent developing those 3 games so far. I don't know what yours is exactly but can guess it's at least 100mil and mine is at least double that. I don't see the "top tier" here at all but if you do please explain.

What pvp game hypes 50 v 50 lottery every few days?  And a laggy experience at that.

Crowfall pvp looks like a gem compared to this.

Return of Reckoning (Warhammer online private server) looks god mode.

Someone was comparing this game to BDO,i never stuck around long enough and found BDO to be so bad i can't really remember exactly what was going on with graphics.Lighting/shaders is a huge draw on resources so just graphics alone doesn't tell the whole story.
What gets me is just today i commented on another NW article by this site and said this game feels more like a full on advertising stint than a team supposed to be adding more pve content and improving the game.

I tried watching a streamer to get a better feel for the game but the streamer struggled to get into the game so gave up.Sad though how they just finished a so called testing phase for servers and here people are getting booted or struggling to get in.They would know how many people they need room for, after all they invited them lol.

So my gut feeling is maybe the game is ok idk but the business side of Amazon studios is sort of on the sketchy side.Seeing how this is a VERY strong advertising push, inviting lots of streamers to help promote their game,i suspect we will see plenty of this game before it releases to better understand if it is good or not so good.

Top tier devs my ass, these old fsrtd can be happy they have still a job. All great games were build on the shoulders of youngsers because they have the passion, the talent and bring the innovation. The old farts were once like that but they have now familiy and are looking for security. while they are for sure great, they are not the best anymore for that position.

Just saw a stream of it. The world itself looks really good; I also like the theme and setting. The characters look as boring as their outfits and only the most basic customization (and even thats not really good) available.

Played for 10 hours got to level 20.  I'd give it a 3/10 in its current form.  Has a nice looking world and the UI is pretty clean for the most part.  The hatchet is pretty fun to me with the throwing line, wasn't crazy about the other weapons.  The crafting seems potentially promising.

The rest is questionable.  Every quest is kill x mobs and open x chests.  Literally 90% of the quests are exactly that formula.  I get it PvE has only existed in the game for a few months but, um, I don't know how a game can survive like that.  What is the end goal with no dungeons or raids?  I guess I don't know what their vision for the game is, and I'm not convinced they do either.

I enjoyed it on the last test and am still enjoying it this test. However, there are definitely issues with basic design.

Limited weapon selection, the character skill tree is like... first-draft amateur hour. The crafting is deeper and more interesting by far with the ability to influence outcomes by the additions of materials to the recipes.

The quests are stock standard MMO v1.0. The combat is fun enough but shallow due to the weak skill trees.

It's ok, but unless they work more on making those shallow ponds a little deeper, it's not going to do well.

The PvE isn't going to hold any PvE player for more than a week - which I why I am suggesting they scrap it altogether and just make the game into a battlegrounds PvP game.

    BTW I also gave PvE a 3/10, it's awful
My hope is the find a balance like ESO has. Start adding some real PvE content. World bosses, events, dungeons, public events but forget the raids. They have a real problem with PvP, even with just 50 vs 50, there is some real lag problems. If they dont fix this, I dont think this game has any hope of gaining the PvP crowd. If they can fix it, I would hope they add a PvP zone, like ESO or DAoC that has some great PvE rewards for playing flagged and also has something that will make people want to PvP like a reason to siege warfare.

Right now, be it PvP or PvE, they just dont have a backbone of a game that will cut it with either type of fan. PvE players will get board and PvP players will wonder what content will keep them PKing.

Played for 10 hours, got to level 20, World is nice, UI is clean, the Hatchet is pretty fun, Crafting has potential, yet you give it 3/10 for an Alpha game?

You .. have very very high standards it seems.

Also, every game out there has literally the same kill X mobs, gather X things, open X chests.

Yes, as far as I see, there are not many things to do in the game just yet, hence..Alpha, but giving it a 3 out of 10 even tho' you kinda liked the game, says a lot about you as a gamer.
