It seems we're all wizards, Harry. Warner Bros and Avalanche are taking players to Hogwarts in their newly announced open world action RPG, Hogwart's Legacy.

Well, it's her work. Regardless of what one thinks of her, she gets to reap the benefits of her efforts.
Imagine if someone didn't like you for their own reasons and said the same about your toil?
Also, I'm fairly certain that there are a number of actors, writers, musicians/singers that you like who, if you got to know them, probably would be on your "don't support list."

The point is that she is using her vast Twitter following to espouse her hideous views. And now she's publishing a book that, albeit in a slightly veiled way, shits on trans people even more.
If actors and writers have similarly vile opinions and we don't know about it. Well then that's because they aren't spreading their views publicly. and so it's Apples to Oranges.
Anyway, I wouldn't spend money on anything that would benefit her at this point.

The thing is, sure, she's not a saint. None of us are.
But do you know what else she uses her vast amounts of money on? Charities for Women and children. I seem to remember reading somewhere that she has given vast amounts of her money away to help causes that support women and children.
So I'm not really clear that she's a horrible person so much as a flawed person. Like us all.
We seem to live in a really strange time where anyone can make their views known and reach millions of people doing it. I personally think people should keep their opinions to themselves as I'm not really clear what she, or anyone else, feels like they are going to accomplish by stating them out loud and strong.
But, they are her opinions and I suppose she's welcome to voice them as much as any of us are welcome to voice ours. She's also welcome to disagree with people just like we have the same right.

i'm fed up with the cancel culture so i don't know what JKR did or didn't do and don't care. If the game is good I'll buy it. People should not pretend to cancel someone for something while at the same time voting for the scum we have as leaders on both parties.

Then people are welcome to voice their opinion of their distaste for JKR for her clear transphobia. I'm not sure what it accomplishes being like "other celebrities also suck" or "well she supports charities" (as if that ever made you a good person when the rich get extreme tax breaks for distributing their wealth to charities). Yes, many celebrities suck on a personal level, I can only assume; however, JKR has consistently voiced her very toxic views of transgender women and the view that "feminists" have for them. This isn't about what the person is like on a personal level that they may not portray to the public, it is literally what she says on her social media accounts and writes in her books.
I don't think that is the hill you want to die on but please be my guest to come to the defensive of a multi-millionaire because someone wishes that she wasn't reaping the rewards of the hard work that these developers have put into the game while she writes a book about cross dressing men killing women.

Yes, people can voice their opinion of her. Did I ever say otherwise?
I'm just pointing out that she is flawed (like you and me) she isn't evil, at least not yet that I can see but there's a whole life ahead of her.
I am saying that people tend to get very trendy with their hatred and that if you don't like her then I am sure there are others that you currently enjoy who also might be just "as horrible if not more."
But people don't really look that far unless someone announces it now do they? I mean, have you really delved into the entertainers you enjoy or are you enjoying the lack of knowledge otherwise you would have to start ignoring them one by one.
And yes, it's her property, she wrote, it and she gets to reap the profits and good for her. Her views do not mitigate the work she has done.
I don't defend what she says but I do defend her right to say it. And keep in mind, I have people very close to me who are transgender and I work in the arts so I'm surrounded by all sorts of people who flourish in all sorts of lifestyles.
but that doesn't mean that I deny her right to be what she is and to enjoy the profits she has earned. Profits that she gives to a variety of charities that help quite a few people.
In any case, that's all that I'll say on the subject otherwise it will be a thread about JK Rowling's views.

The thing is that the medical community is quite clear that transgenderism is real. She is being no less ignorant or hateful than all of the people that have treated homosexuals as being unnatural, abhorrent, crazy, evil, sinful ...
So not only is she "wrong", she is also combative and closed minded in it. For her all that matters is her "truth" and experiences. She's taken this combativeness to the next level by writing a novel in which the villain is a transgender person who she simply treats as a transvestite. As that's all she thinks transgendered people all.
As someone that knows and cares about those with gender dysphoria, I reject her and any like her completely. Just as I reject racists and misogynists.
Yes, the tweets of JKR are not my cup of tea. Really, it surprised me at first since she decided Dumbledore is gay.
But i enjoy the fantasy world she did create and won't let her stupidity interfere with my liking of the HP world and the countless others that have poured their sweat and tears into that world.

I mean, I understand that people are flawed and I wouldn't even attempt to counter argue that as I am a very flawed person. I am also 100% sure there are people I like in the entertainment industry that are full on trash. However, they do not flaunt their very flawed and honestly quite dangerous view points out in the open for me see or find info on, so how can I even begin to take any action here?
Even my favorite entertainer or closest friend I would call out for the things she has said and continues to do. This is why I understand, and can feel the same way. whenever someone says they aren't necessarily wishing all the best for a transphobic author who continues to use their platform for a message that is harming to people.
And no, I won't say she has advocated for harm, but phobias are incredibly harmful, even more so when that person has power or a platform for each. I am not bandwagoning hatred for intolerance. This isn't a trend lol. To dislike people who are intolerant of a human for their gender or who are just straight up transphobic isn't "trendy", it's being empathetic toward these people who have been marginalized throughout history and today.
Working or interacting transgender people doesn't give you any weight in anything, to be honest. You can't tokenize a person you work with or interact with occasionally and claim to be their friend/ally while actively defending someone who in no way needs it and claiming it is her "free speech". I am not attacking her free speech, but I am attacking her words and harmful view points. In the same way I am not attacking you directly but arguing against your view and points of dispute on the subject, with respect. Free speech doesn't give you immunity to criticisms or backlash, which is about all I have seen in this thread.
You can't mention the work without addressing the current issues that the author is currently fumbling through and continues to create. If that is what the thread devolves to, then that is fine in my book since it needs to be addressed. Gaming communities are not immune to these discussions and they need to be brought up whenever they touch our personal environments. If she wants to voice her personal opinions then she needs to be ready to have this touch every facet of what she works on.
LMFAO! I read a post last night asking why these forums are becoming so quiet. A lot of the replies were to the effect that the site needed to post more articles about MMOs.
The very next day they post about a NEW MMO, and within 2 or 3 replies it turns into a squabble about trans gender, evil authors, and rights to broadcast opinions.
This looks like a game I can spend countless hours with! I hope it lives up to my expectations. From the looks of it, I'm already sold.
About JK, I don't have Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, nor do I care about the nonsense that filters down to those of us not interested in taking part. I LOVE the Harry Potter films and the world itself. They are her creation. Although she may not be a perfect person and I don't agree with her more controversial viewpoints, that certainly won't keep me from enjoying the movies or this game.
If the game was "JK Rowling: The Opinionating" her personal viewpoints might affect my purchase decision. But it isn't, so it won't.
If I were inclined to ensure that every major person involved with a computer game never did or said anything I disapproved of before I bought it I'd likely never get anything.
I don't do it for anything else so I see no reason to do it for stuff she is involved with just because she has chosen to be open about her controversial views rather than cloaking them from view.

Honestly. I agree. I don't like J.K. Rowling either, but I do like her work on Harry Potter.
At this moment, the Harry Potter franchise has grown beyond J.K Rowling and is much bigger than her.
I think today, the world has far bigger problems ( COVID19, Trump tearing the US apart, etc) than J.K Rowling's narrow view on transgenders.
So with all due respect. I would be an incredibly happy man, if J.K. Rowling's personal opinions were the biggest issues we had to deal with today.

You're trying to say Harry Potter Legacy is a new MMO??
Warner Bros. describes the game as an “open-world, single-player, action role-playing video game set in the 1800s wizarding world"...

Well hate to break it to ya, but this is an RPG not an MMO.
I had no idea about the JKR stuff nor do I care in the context of a promising AAA game set in the universe she created.
I also consider Ender's game to be one of the best Scifi books of the 20th century despite Orson Scott Card being a certifiable wacko.
