Hope they improve the combat. Last week I (finally) decided to give it a try, and the combat instantly turned me off. Then, I opened the menu and I weeped for humanity. Jesus the UI is old!

Thankfully they're already making it better from the looks of it.

The only change I'd really like to see to combat is to remove the timing/rhythm mechanic that increases your damage. I want to focus on hitting things, dodging, and using my skills, not circle timing, tyvm.

I'd like more freedom in my action combat. I don't know how to explain how I felt when trying PSO clearly, but I'll try.

When I tried the game, while fighting, I noticed that pressing the attack button your character goes sort-of into an auto battler mode. By that I mean they auto target, and anything in the vicinity gets hit. All I had to pay attention is the circle timing and sometimes dodging or healing, apart of that, just spam until they died.

Maybe it was the class I tried (bouncer), but it didn't grab me.

You have absolute freedom dude...targeting isn't really used by anyone not using a controller.
Even then.. Zero auto attack it's all timed.

Special skills will magnet to the closest enemy if used especially with the default jet boot skill you were spamming to magnet on.

Anyhow it's one of those games you can't gauge difficulty until end game. It's really old.

The UI is a miss for so many westerners. I don't know why.. I find it to be gloriously PSO like and never had a problem with it even in moonspeak mode on the vita but i get it looks bad to many used to western standards.

I'd say the UI was designed under the principles of FFXI style though which more or less is hated equally in the west.

I'm still kinda confused about this. I thought it was a separate updated version of PSO but now I'm not sure. Is it an update to the already launched PSO or a new game?

Episode 5 is launching on September 30th not September 5th like this artcle suggests.

It's new, and "separate" but not really. Your characters can transfer from each version of the game. It's still Phantasy Star Online 2.

People talking about wanting to do other things than timing their attacks,
Not to sound rude but seems like you need to get good.
Those timing simply become second nature and you'll do them without even having to think about it.

Also if you didn't look at earlier reveals, you can clearly see that Just attacks will still be a thing. Bad luck for you.

It's going to be a new game where you can import some stuff such as appearances/cosmetics.
Levels and gears will be separate.

So you start over is it? I don't really mind that I did enjoy my summoner and I can play it again if need be from level 1.

I watched Lazy Peon's video visit. It looked a lot like a game I've played a thousand times before and didn't hold any mystery or surprise. The over the top visuals were a bit off putting and oversized weapons and mobs are getting a little long in the tooth for me. On the other hand the combat looks pretty good (he played some dual wielding melee guy). I'll keep an eye on it and be looking for your impressions when their revamp launches.
I'm afraid I can only play one class in this game. The summoner was the only class I could manage because I cannot get the hang of 'just attack' and all the other classes I played I kept dying over and over. The summoner has a pet so I was able to play that quite well and I reached max level before they increased the level.

I did enjoy the sweets mechanics of enhancing your pets. I cannot speak for any other class but they have some very nice combat from what I have seen. I think you will do very well if you are good with action combat.
