Well that was clear when they announced a Fall launch on consoles and stated that all that was left was polishing what they had.
I find this games development to be a fascinating failure of epic proportions. They prioritized all of the wrong things and the design philosophy from the beginning was clearly to make something unique and different. this extended to not carrying over any loved classes and making a fighting trash can, a bipolar mage and Thomas the tank engine. (Yes they eventually added a familiar ranged class)
Just look at how almost every official stream has their (very nice) CM playing in a fort. That damn fort was the core of their original MTX plan. Imagine how many hours have been wasted on that fluff instead of making a worthy sequel to TL2.
Feels like they tried to hard to get away from the things that made Torchlight the franchise it was and now they are just going to release something buggy and not quite up to par, they have been working on it to long now to go back to the drawing board.. They really should have stuck with what made Torchlight so likeable and just polished that with new areas and story..

Yeah. the problem is that Perfect World isn't Square Enix and this game isn't even going to attract enough people to make it worth it anyway.
I'm not sure if the people at the top don't know how bad the game is or if they are just trying to make the best of what they can scrape together based on PW's timeline. The problems are mostly self inflicted by Echtra though.
Perfect world is worth like 6.5 billion ? Pretty rich company , they could easily spend the extra time to Remake the game hahahah

What they were making as an MMO was horrible. Been testing since the beginning. An arpg doesn't need to be an MMO, just need to have multiplayer available for when people want to play with friends.
The best moved they made was dumping the MMO parts and trying to start over. They reworked the entire game two times now. That is why they are not going to do it again.
Going to the Early Access was the worst mistake they ever made. It allowed in people that didn't actually want to test a game, they wanted the finished product right then an there.
Don't get me wrong the game has a lot of issues, but to be honest the original and the second one were both just on par when they released, they were not great either. The thing that made those games great was the modding communities. If they want this game to have any chance of success they will have to release the code and allow modding.
The stuff I read about the game seems to indicate it is going to be quite a poorly executed game. I am hoping it is an exaggeration and tinted with disappointment from folk unhappy about how the game changed its course. However the sheer volume of steam and youtube comments and responses make me doubt it is.

It is good but it is also in active development and a lot of unstable things get pushed into the early access live version. As for why it is good - there are quite a lot of builds you can make but not all of them are immediately obvious because of the weird separation of the skills.
There are 4 classes with 14 active skills per class with 14 passive skills attached to them as a milestone(you get to level 6 in the active skill and you get the passive skill), there are additionally 5 "relics" that serve as an additional skill tree with 5 active and 5 passive skills that can be used by any class. The class and relic skills are learned using skill points that are gained on level-up and the class-relic combination is a kind of dual-class mechanic. This far things are pretty standard for an aRPG.
Where things get a bit unconventional are the additional passive skills, mechanics and functional modifiers for active skills that are attached to the "legendary" rarity items in the game. Basically every single item slot you have is also kind of a passive skill slot. There are about a 100 of those per character class, the exact number varies as some of those item-skills are class-specific. Once you find an item with a particular skill you can also equip that skill in the "legendarium" to keep the skill even if you want to discard the item. You can equip up to 3 skills in that manner. The whole system is kind of like the legendary powers and Kanau Cube from Diablo 3 but the powers in Torchlight 3 are a bit more impactful and can be combined with the rest of the skills to create a wide variety of builds.
Other than the skill system the game is basically a pretty standard aRPG. In comparison to the previous torchlight games - there isn't any stat distribution, no ring and amulet slots and the enchanting and socket system from the previous games is kind of rolled up into one single entity. The time-to-kill is a bit higher than most other games in the genre. The visual variety is kind of on-par with Torchlight 2 so there aren't really a lot of different zones and enemies but the things that are there are pretty good looking. The end-game consists of replaying old map tiles with different enemy combinations and challenge modifiers attached to them so it is nothing really groundbreaking but it can get quite challenging when you progress through it and get quite a few modifiers stacked against you.
There's a heavy emphasis on housing with the fort system and on collecting things - you collect items to put in your fort, you collect pet skins, pet skills and legendary item skills. Items collected can be used on every character once you find them. In the forts there are also several buildings that provide you with some account-wide bonuses for your characters.
The game is not the best aRPG out there by a long shot but it can be really fun. The early access has a lot of problems though - the balance is in constant flux and there are a lot of bugs. They were also experimenting quite a lot with some of the systems which resulted in less-than-stellar experience. And there will be another full progression wipe at launch so that's a reason not to play right now as well. There's also the issue of the price being higher than the previous games which pisses some people off and afaik the price might get even higher at launch but I hope they change their minds of that.

I'm not sure how it's worse every update. But polishing this turd is not going to be nearly enough. I hope for their sake that it does really well on consoles.
As far as why people think it stinks. Well it's fairly being compared against TL2 and found lacking. The classes are pretty well considered to be less enjoyable and they undeniably have smaller skill trees. The world in TL2 felt more open whereas TL3 has half the zones being just a fort, which was designed to get you to buy MTX, and the other half of the zones feel completely on rails.
The story was hacked together VERY quickly. The items feel shallow and they did nothing to evolve the end game. There are fewer item slots per character and I have no clue why. They basically left it until the last minute and it's just a crappy djinni map system.
For people who care, there is no fishing in the game.
I chalk up the failure in design to their lead having no previous connection to the franchise. He clearly was self indulgent and wanted to create something different. Just as Jay Wilson wanted to redo Diablo in his own image for D3.
But there's nothing to lose by buying it on release and giving it just under two hours to try. But I'd suggest just watching people stream it and decide for yourself.
I'd say it's still better than TL1 but is a no-buy unless they add mod support to offline mode on PC. I have zero trust in them making this game fun on their own without ruining it by giving equal or higher priority to consoles.
Torchlight 3 is not ready to launch at all. This game is gonna get torn apart by the reviews. There's gonna be the fans who are super subjective and say how good it is. It feels like it caters to the fan base rather then the devs following any road map. There is such an emptiness and blandness to the game as a whole. The quests, dialog, forts and just exploring this world is just boring. Everything just feels like fodder just to get to more fodder. The Railmaster is a cool interesting class but even currently the skills are broken. There are so many times the train just doesnt exist. The skill wont summon the train or its just invisible while doing damage. They keep changing the game the longer its in early access. They are to rework the skills and how many you could have equipped at a time. They changed how relics worked. Gameplay wise though remains the same. Go to X, kill X, talk to npc, go to X. There is no character or charm. It's just nothingness on top of nothingness.
I'm starting to think @elveone either works for, or knows people that works for, Echtra.
This is just as unsubstantiated as the rest of your posts. I get that you don't like the game but the time you invest into disliking it is not healthy. I, on the other hand, do like the game and I try to provide accurate information about what is in it and what is not to people who seek that information. I am glad that when provided with the facts people still prefer them to biased baseless bulshit which is what you peddle in.
