Sound quality in ESO changes quite a bit depending on what the game auto-detects as your playback device. I know that when I play it with my headphones the quality improves quite a bit as does the positional audio... my desktop speakers are just stereo.

To be honest i often turn the sound and music down.I also tend to perhaps focus too much on the task at hand to even notice the music.
I feel the music tends to simply trigger our memories of good times bad times in a game.I can't remember ever at the time thinking,WOW this music sounds awesome as i entered a new trigger zone.
Personally i tend to more closely notice the sound effects, the ambient noise that brings the life into the world.Sure when i hear Zanarkand i instantly recognize the music but i wouldn't say i truly have a favorite music track in the world of mmo's.
I do however find it way more intriguing when an artist/musician takes a music track and recreates it with their own instrument or band.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
There are beautiful inclusions in this thread however for me it would be Kelethin and almost all of the music from Everquest because that was my first MMORPG. The memories the music invokes are unforgettable.
Now see this is an example of how i don't really notice the music.I couldn't even think of a single music track from kelethin, matter of fact i can't even think of a music track from ANY EQ game or any zone. I think i likely played with the music down so low i could barely even hear it,perhaps i even had it turned right off ...sigh.
This however also proves what i was saying and that is it really is just a trigger in our minds to recall good memories and less about the actual music track.

Those memories definitely one of the best MMO soundtracks for me aswell and I prefer GW1 over GW2 soundtrack any day.
EvE Online had such good music that I sometimes played the game just for the music and atmosphere.
AoC as already mentioned also beautiful and I'm happy to own the CE with the soundtrack which is one of the few that I've listened to outside of the game. I think this only happened for me with Eve Online aswell.
Lineage 2 also had a beautiful soundtrack that stood out to me.
EverQuest 2 also so many good tracks.
SWTOR Alderaan comes to mind.
ESO soundtrack and as someone already mentioned the bards that made you actually stop and listen to them.
I could never narrow it down to one particular game since there are so many good soundtracks and all of them are connected to good memories.
This just shows how important a good soundtrack is.
Graphics and gameplay enhance immersion while sound and music enhances emotions, as cheesy as it sounds but that's how I see it ;-)

There are certain moments in soundtracks i love too, for example.
Dun Morogh 4m 25s
I could go on and on...
tbh there are so many, i know people that listen to their own music, which is cool, but i've always loved to immerse myself into the game world with it's theme music which is a big part of the whole mmorpg experience for me.

I can only rate the soundtracks of games I've played, but Wildstar had a great soundtrack. The music on the login screen fit so well. It was haunting but majestic. Every track was part of a mysterious world you had to explore. If only the combat was as good.
