Hopefully this new game mechanic will debut without any glitches. To me, it is one of the better quality of life improvements to the game Cryptic has done in the last couple of years. Cryptic seems to focus too much on big-ticket gambling instead of advancing & improving the game for us common folks that would spend money too if not $$$. STO is still a good game with fun to be had, but it is in decline & showing its age not necessarily with its graphics but with Cryptic's direction for it. The gambling is the most consistent content added it might as well be a mobile game. Cryptic deserves some praise for this inbound feature, I hope it works properly.

Don't give them too much praise yet, there's gambling involved with this too.
Beyond that, you can also find them in the Phoenix Reclamation Store at the Ultra Rare tier.
From the article, but the article doesn't mention what is needed in order to purchase the upgrade tokens from the Phoenix Reclamation Store. If you guessed gambling, then you are correct!
The article also didn't mention that you can purchase the upgrade tokens from their in-game store, the same place you would purchase most of the ships or things like inventory slots. I think it's supposed to be $10 for one upgrade token and $20 for three. So you know, the cost of the upgrade token plus the ship, which is $30, unless it's one of those lootbox ships, so who knows how much that cost.
Speaking of lootboxes, there's supposed to be yet another one this week or the next.
Yay more gambling, power creep, and pay to win bull plop. Yay cryptic. Just what the game needed as it rambles onto its final days before being sunseted.

As truthful as it can get.
