This game caught me off guard tbh. I'm actually enjoying it more than I did Breath of the Wild. Which was a lot.
Same here. The combat is pretty slick (though I would appreciate better controller aim assist for bows), and I appreciate that there are actually progression mechanics as opposed to otherwise awesome weapons made of sticks and glass.
As good as the game is on its face, gotta remember that its still a Chinese game. That means at least 2 things, its already known to be a Zelda clone and every Chinese company deals with the Chinese government in some way-shape-form (without getting political, there is a reason every western democracy is worried about the Chinese government involvement in everything going on in that country).
The main reason why this is worry-some at the end of the day is that China is constantly looking for stuff for copy and resell for massive gains, which isn't really anything new. What is pretty new on a global standard is that they are striking gold with this (ontop of it being a gacha to boot), so this just encourages them to keep doing what they have been instead of just being original for once.
Now I'm not saying to not play and enjoy the game (since even I'm under the game's spell atm), but just be careful not to fall too deep into the gacha system and to be careful with your information. Probably be wise to use a VPN of sorts with this.

Most great things were copied and iterated on. The difference is, your interation needs to be the best around, and so far for Genshin Impact it is.
It is that difference that made it so WoW had no "actual" competition or a "WoW killer." There was tons of MMOs who iterated on WoW's formula, but none could match it. Arguably now FF14 might actually have surpassed WoW in terms of iteration, but also it can stand as it's own game.
The Chinese ethos like you said, is copying and iteration, it is their bread and butter technique. Actually it is very popular all through out the East. Vs the West where we are more about creating original ideas, etc. Both have pro's and con's. In the case of Genshin Impact, it was a pro.
Here we go, expect to see more of those Gacha mechanics in the future MMOS. Consumers basically said that they are fine with it.
MMOs were one of the first genres to have lootboxes and pay to win microtransactions.
I haven't seen another game where in order to get 5 star character you need to spend anywhere between 100-400 euros. Genshin Impact basically made it mainstream. Not only top streamers and gaming community embraced it, but also supported it because of it "being best looking mobile port with fun anime style gameplay" Yes I know how many MMOS have pay2win mechanics, but how many people play them? We had this discussion during csgo lotto craze and going into 2018-2019 that lootboxes are a bad thing and now it seems we are going back to the very start and embracing it again as a good thing.
Played it to very far part in the ole story. It's pretty bland but still fun. Just not something I would put money into. On account of it feeling cheap as fuck.

This is the dangerous thing that many people unfamiliar with gacha systems don't realize. A majority of them operate the same way (I learned the hard way via Bleach: Brave Souls, cause I'm a sucker for bleach). Things are fine, RIGHT NOW and unfortunately, the western market is reactive instead of proactive in terms of thinking. Eventually there will be 6 stars, then variants to the same type of hero to fit a different theme (for example, they'll probably add a christmas theme venti, etc). Keep in mind that the duplicate system is still in play and there's no current way to buy direct heroes (they'll probably add direct packs but even then those are usually limited one per acount to keep you rolling in the gacha). Its just funny to see this going on without a current problem (probably because of the global situation sucking the air out of the issue) when gacha systems are akin to loot boxes and just last year was the whole loot box blow out.
This guy works in the Asian market and predicts big things from the Asian market,go figure lol.
HE does not have any access the the developers books so is making just a wild inaccurate mention of numbers.
So then I ask WHY,well obviously this marketing firm is partnered with the Mihoyo studio.
The game like so many now a days is designed for a little kid, chests and sparkles to basically take all exploration out of the game and just show you where everything is.Just like BOTW the lighting is imo too bright and very weak technology but of course that allows the game to run smoother with little effort into optimization because lighting is one of the biggest draws.
It really doesn't even matter how good the game is because it is built around the cash shop.
Obviously the game will revolve you having the best items and if you don't your game experience will be less.
5*
5*
5*
People that have little to no control will become ADDICTED to spending tons to finally get their 5* items they want.
Then those items don't even look good because they are low palette colors and cartoony graphics.
People are going to spend way more than the actual game is worth and WHY?Playing with others, yeah of course so they compete with each other in showing off ,they spend more money.
These cash shop games are just at the very bottom of my list, all of them are scummy and NOT worth playing.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Can hardly get myself to play it. I like the style but.. eh.. just not doing it for me game-play and story wise. Dunno how ppl can spend so much money on it.
-This is not a MMO, it's an online single player open world adventure game, that can also be played co-op to some degree.
-This is not a Breath of the Wild clone, this is a game in the same genre. BotW had more than its fair share of similarities with other games that came out even some twenty years prior, for the same sort of reasons, that's how it works.
-China is known for being the source of oh so many bootleg stuff, but like with anything, there are exceptions. Arknights, Genshin Impact, and Honkai Impact are rather out of step with the other gacha games out there, but were made by Chinese developers. Which is one reason why they maintain so much interest amongst players, while so many other gacha games come, and go.
-The reason so many gacha games end up being stupidly pay to win, is they have minimal game play, their stuff isn't balanced at all, so anything below top rarity ends up being trash, and they revolve around PvP in late game. Meanwhile all three of the games I previously listed have very real game play, where skill really does matter, even low rarity stuff can be pretty useful, and they have no PvP, with two of them having no competitive features at all.
For instance, in Genshin I have Keqing from my first 10 pull, which is a top rarity lightning character. Although most of the time I use Lisa, the lighting character you get right near the start from doing the story. In Arknights there's plenty of videos showing how to clear basically all the content using very common low rarity units. Both games have no competitive features, and you can do well, with whatever you get. Then due to the pity systems in both, and how they give you a decent amount of the gacha currency for just playing in a recurring fashion, if you keep playing, you'll get top rarity units too. Will the whales have all the stuff, sure, but when you don't compete with them in any fashion, and can play the game just fine without top rarity stuff, why should anyone care what the whales are doing in those game?
Meanwhile Japan, Korea, and Europe keep spitting out copy paste, pay to win, gacha games. SINoALICE is a Japanese gacha connected to the guy behind NieR, so was hyped to high heaven, had millions of people pre-registered for it, then just about everyone seemed to quit within about a month, because it turned out to be a boring pay to win game with minimal game play, revolved around PvP in late game, and you needed top rarity stuff to hope to be competitive.
This game caught me off guard tbh. I'm actually enjoying it more than I did Breath of the Wild. Which was a lot.
same here also, I didn't feel the monetization is that intrusive, but apparently people spends a lot trying to get 5 star eq and 5 star heroes. I'm actually fine with 4 stars heroes and 4 stars equipments.
Can hardly get myself to play it. I like the style but.. eh.. just not doing it for me game-play and story wise. Dunno how ppl can spend so much money on it.
Some people have the need to have the best heroes and the best equipment. and in a gacha game the "best" will cost you. I have opened like 100 free "wish"(box) and only get 1, 5-star heroes. and to make the 5 star heroes more powerful you need to get that same heroes 6 more times and that's just for the heroes this doesn't include equipment. There are no need to be the "best" in this game, most of the time you play it by yourselves, but some people have the need to be the best.
Much has been made about the 0.6% rate of getting a 5 star character. But there's a lot more to the reasonableness of a gacha system than that. There's a huge difference between:
1) Each draw has a 0.6% chance of giving you something good, and you get 10 free draws per day. 2) Each draw has a 0.6% chance of giving you something good, but the only way to ever get any draws is to buy them for $1 each.
There's also a huge difference between:
1) Draws and probabilities come at a given rate, but once you get that one five star character, you need any other draws to power up that particular character. 2) Draws and probablities come at a given rate, and in order to fully power up a five star character, you have to get 20 copies of the character and merge them together.
And there's even a huge difference between:
1) Only the whales have the top powered characters, but you can play the entire game just fine without them. 2) Only the whales have the top powered characters, and everyone else hits a wall at some point at which they basically must become a whale to progress. 3) Only the whales have the top powered characters, and everyone else gets harassed and killed by the whales with no way to defend themselves.
Option (1) is not my preferred business model. But it doesn't wreck a game the way that (2) or (3) do.
Too bad this isn't an mmo, otherwise i would have went crazy over this game, and also i feel like spending money in a single player game with an option to party with 3 other players are just a waste and no point... but good for those who are enjoying tho
This makes me sad. It's a fun game but the monitization is disgusting. The fact that's it's doing so well means we're going to see more and more of this.
Game is refined, got nice music, decent story with cutscenes, action combat. As a f2p game with no pvp with gatcha system. I say it's worth and it's fun. But the moment they implement pvp with rewards i will uninstall it.
