Join Jonathan as he breaks down his early thoughts on Genshin Impact in his review in progress. Is it worth jumping into the free-to-play Gacha RPG from miHoYo?

Of course, you get a few free samples at first.
"It’s like someone took a Tales game and rebuilt it inside of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and you know, finally turned that game into an actual good game."
You may not care for Breath of the Wild, but it's a pretty dumb thing to suggest in your review that it's not a good game. I prefer Genshin over Zelda: BOTW, but I have the intellectual maturity to recognize that doesn't make Zelda a bad game. This seems like just another case of MMORPG letting anyone with a keyboard write some opinions.
That doesn't make FE Heroes gacha good. Heavens no! From experience, it's bloody awful. But it does highlight just how poor Genshin Impacts rates are.
Funny thing is, even with the gacha system, I still enjoy this more than the BotW it's so closely cribbing. Because it replaces most of the survival mechanics with RPG mechanics. Meaning that I'm actually progressing instead of finding fragile weapons that are literally too good to use.

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
Gdemami absolutely not being an armchair developer
A lot of item mall or gacha games will seem fine at first. They don't want your very first experience with the game to be "and now pay $1 to progress". They want you to be invested with the game before they hit you with that and then start increasing the amounts of money that you have to pay to continue. I'd be much more comfortable with saying that the gacha is fine if people who had played for months could give a detailed explanation of how much pressure there is to buy stuff how soon. But of course, there aren't people who have played for months yet.
The only real indicator is that unfortunate business model.
I only make purchases for things I want and not for a small chance of what I want. Either way this game is going to milk some wallets dry.
Love it so far!
Well, ya see, reviews are based on the writer’s subjective opinion, which means I can say whatever I want because that’s my prerogative based on my personal experiences. Just because other critics drool all over themselves and hand out 9+ scores for literally anything Nintendo wants to slap Zelda’s brand on, doesn’t mean we all can’t see through nostalgia to call something inferior when it is. Intellectual maturity doesn’t have anything to do with stating that I disliked a game, and pot shots might be low brow, but they are a form of humor.
Perhaps it would be better if we make sure that all contributions going forward include consulting “Coleman11b” before jokes make it into articles?
What is it you kids say on the twitch? OMEGALUL
I'm a MUDder. I play MUDs.

The other thing I dislike is you switch characters - your character automatically disappears and another one takes place, I found is as un-immersive as Druids in Diablo 2 and WoW and Shamans in WoW were with their shape-shifting .. I just can't immerse myself like that. But with Genshin Impact is even worse as they are completely different characters, with Druid and Shaman, it was at least the same character changing form.
But the graphics looked nice, combat felt nice and choice for voice acting in different languages was also welcome, shame I couldn't get into it.
Two 10-summons on the beginner banner and 1 10 summon on the permanent banner resulted in an Amber, Razor, Xiangling and (free) Noelle.
I'd really like to free roll a Diluc. But so far, I am having fun with Razor. Saving all primogems for Dainsleaf and Zhongli. That's what you really have to do in these gacha games - stockpile until they release something you want.
Boring, slow, combat is horrible... ARGG? A from Action? Where is it? It takes more time to get somewhere with a decent density of mobs than to clear them. RPG? Where is it? Customization is nonexistent, progression is dull, 2 skills per character and 2-3 passives... even gear/loot is lacking.
Graphics are ok, sound/music is good, voice acting is cringe but decent.
Seriously I wouldnt give this game more than a 7 being magnanimous.
I can't find any info on the rpg system. I really wish this was mandatory to put in any review of any game labeled as rpg.
You say 2 skills per character and 2 to 3 passives? That is it? In total? Do you get to select the skills and passives or does the game select them for you?
