The one and only Anarchy Online!!! I want my bureaucrat and soldier and meta physicist back. And grouping whenever you want either dungeons or those randomly generated apartments. Cant handle solo mmos any longer.
If I am not in a group in the first 10 hours the game is dead for me. Levelling to end level and other solo bs before grouping killed this genre
AO had you ina group after tutorial island - Subway, then random dungeons then, Temple of Three Winds if I remeber correctly and so on..... I am killing myself through GW2 to get to 80 to do some group content. Tried LOTRO and ESO but couldnt handle it.
Do revivals count? If so, Warhammer Online. Well, I'd like a WH solo singleplayer RPG even more, but...horses and gifts.
Otherwise, if I were to be unreasonable, I'd say Guild Wars 1(GW 2 is like a game from an entirely different franchise) or SWTOR. Sure, both are more than playable right now and TOR is even updated, but...I'd really like to see a modern GW 1 and SWTOR...I'd want to see it with a better engine, an engine that isn't a literal cul-de-sac(dead end).
Oh, oh and Everquest 2 as well. Sure, you CAN play EQ2 and the environment looks ok, but damn those character models! This could also go for LoTR:O, but I'd like modern EQ2 more.
And a complete Remake of Blade and Soul into something that allows Offline...that IP has potential that is being wasted right now!
Star Wars Galaxies. I actually feel extremely bad for people that play MMO's that never got to experience that game from the beginning to before the combat upgrade.( to make it like wow and kid friendly.) Such an amazing game.
Star Wars Galaxies. While others might want the preCU SWG. I think it severely lacks content. So I rather see a hybrid of different era's.
- PreCU skill system.
- Jump to Lightspeed with late NGE multiplayer combatships added.
- PostNGE expansion to crafting classes.
- Bioengineering from late NGE.
- City invasion system from late NGE.
- Storytelling and questcreating system (these are not the same, second is from later NGE but forgot the exact name).
I probably forgot things. But all this in an actual 3D engine with a real Z-axis (SWG didn't have that)
I don't want remakes because what I want is a properly made mmorpg and that would in reality require a completely new game.
Someone above mentions SWG,well you can already see what is happening now in games with Star Citizen, they would just sell you ships in a cash shop and never deliver the game you actually want to play.
Another poster way above wants a RF online remake. So happens I was an active player and what I found was the game needed a lot of changes/improvements.So I offered up my changes in the forums and was met with criticsm.Well all those naysayer fanbois ended up with NO game because it shut down shortly after.
The problem many don't realize is that these studios are businesses first and game designers second.I would say 99% of studios are only in this to make money and really have no passion for game design. Now a days when devs see their game in a somewhat decent form they are ready to set if free and make money they won't spend that extra time to do it properly.
All these studios had the chance to do it right the first time, they are not stupid, they know what would make a better game, they simply choose to NOT put in the extra effort.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
If I could take an MMO, and re-do it, just rebuild the whole game.
I would take Dungeons and Dragons Online.
I think with a better team, or at least, better direction / leadership, this could have been a flagship game for Turbine.
Instead it stumbled out of the starting gate into in IP legal hell, and has had a revolving door of leadership over the years that can't seem to get an idea of what they want to do with it.
While it is amazing that it is still going, if this game was remade, given a whole new upgrade, and a fresh start, it could have been a top contender.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
It's being done in Unreal Engine 4 as we speak. No details whether a new Lineage MMO or remaster of 2.
The thing is, if they do release it, I doubt going to be like "Lineage 2." It's not going to have the huge grind and I bet everything will be a lot easier.
That "could" be a good thing it's non stop battles and it's more about the fighting, but I don't see how they could make enough content to satisfy players.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Amazon isn't making a LOTR MMO. they are making an MMO set in the second age. This means that all but the elf characters, and Wizards and Sauron, will not have been born yet. But, the world as a whole will be a bit more diverse and interesting, just minus Hobbits as they were pretty much out of the story.
And so, LOTRO really could use a remake imo and that would be my first choice.
I don't care for Sandbox games and so SWG doesn't appeal to me. But an OT based Star Wars MMO could be really fun.
As an ARPG fan, Marvel Heroes with modern graphics and some better design decisions would be great.
A Warhammer Fantasy MMO would be welcome as well. WHO feels too dated for me to enjoy.
Hey FrodoFragins I recommend reading Tolkiens prequel book. The elves did exist in the Second Age. I believe the ending of the Second Age is marked by the downfall of Sauron ie. he is banished.
Lord of the Rings Online, but, it doesn't have to revolve around the one ring. Just an MMO located in Middle Earth. Start in one area then increase the size in expansions. Middle Earth is a HUGE world!
I'm not really up for remakes / remasters. In the single player world I can still play the old games that I enjoyed, it may take an hour or two to get used to the old school graphics again but after that they still play the same and are just as fun as they used to be.
With MMOs, I can play SWGEmu whenever I want, and I do play WAR RoR. So, I don't need them remade or rebooted, as whilst I would appreciate better graphics, it's really gameplay changes that I would want, and I'm not getting that with a remake/reboot.
What I would like is a sequel.
Take the lessons learned from the original, as well as lessons learned from the wider industry, and a make a better, new game. (not that i have much confidence in anyone being able to do this, but I can dream!)
In which case, just take any of the big IPs that exist in mmos, and make a sequel.
Top of my list would be Star Wars, give me SWG 2.0! Loved the original, but it was pretty buggy and unbalanced with a whole host of issues. A newer version, building on the experiment of the first, would be awesome. Of course, EA would have to lose the SW license for this to happen.
Next up would be LotRO. Original MMO was amazing, probably my favourite gaming period and they created an amazing world to explore. Just a shame they went solo focused pretty early on after a great group focus at launch. But, bring back the depth of the original combat mechanics, put in horizontal progression and maybe make it a bit more sandbox (rebuilding the world after the fall of sauron?) and they can have my money for years!
Would also love a new Warhammer MMO. WAR was designed really badly, the majority of the game sucked, it just had some good RvR moments. The lore is amazing, and I loved the focus on large-scale combat. If a new version sorted out the power gaps, made the PvE more interesting, gave us a better progression system but kept the large scale rvr and relatively decent combat mechanics, I'd be pretty happy.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
I may well be alone with this.
