RuneScape is now available on Steam, for all those players who have wanted to give it a try, but were waiting for all the benefits that a Steam release provides. In that same avenue, RuneScape Steam players will be able to earn achievements, trading cards, and a Steam Goody Bag.

    I remember after Bill put computers in the libraries in Ohio, seeing a kid, 8? 9? Playing Runescape ages ago now. I laughed and I still get the biggest smile remembering that moment. In a library.. and this kid knew and managed to get to Runescape to play on a library computer. And this kid was getting whacked around, he killed someone at the bank, had his own little adventures and talks and the whole time.. hes got this look of pure joy and giggles on his face. All the games and times with people all over the world, and that moment is still one of the brightest moments in my memory of gaming or the happiness of it.

    That game, deserves all the best, I wish it well.

    They did a good integration with steam, linking a new or an old account is super simple. Well done.

    just over 5k in game right, even SWTOR had 30k on Steam launch. Just proves that whole playerbase is filled with bots.

    And the gameplay is not very fun at all. The most annoying thing for me in RuneScape is the movement. As soon as I click somehwere on the ground - there is like 1-2 second delay until my character processes this and begins walking there.

    I read something that they plan to revamp the movement system in the game to make it feel more fluid and dynamic, but it may as well just be a rumor and it won't change my opinion on the game - if you never played it, there is almost zero chance you will get into it now.

    Swtor had that number not because of their existing playerbase but it was a star wars game and people wanted to try it when they saw it on the recommended new game section.

    Runescape is an old game so it won't gather tons of new players just from Steam. And like other popular mmos on the Steam most of their existing players won't consider playing on steam while they can continue to play how they did for all those years and on top of that on mobile.

    How did you even come up with a comment like this just looking at that number is beyond me. Just checking their subreddit would give you the clear answer...

    It can be an old game that would feel boring as hell to a lot of people but that won't change the fact that rs3 and osrs combined has a bigger playerbase than most of the so called "big" mmos out there.

    The game integrates with their PC version the Steam version and Mobile, and Mobile has millions of downloads. I would suspect most people trying this game are on the Mobile platform now. PC players wanting to play in the last decade likely already do, so I don't anticipate Steam numbers would be high.
