    Got a little bit worried, went to find the game on Steam and it ain't there, quick search said it's going to be an Epic-store exclusive. Not happy with that.

    Luckily, can still buy the game directly through uplay and bypass Epic entirely

    How does one find Epic, the company trying to fight for smaller indie devs to get a bigger cut of profits against Apple AND Steam fall second in your eyes behind Uplay?

    It makes no sense. People's blind hatred towards Epic is actually one of the most moronic things I can think of. Please, give me one reason other than exclusivity on Epic because most devs want more of their hard-earned money, is there to hate on Epic? Because it produced Fortnite?

    Some people dont want multiple platform launchers on there pc. My games are on steam if they are not on steam I wont buy it unless like this game the makers have their own launcher.
      
    It has nothing to do with "hate" for epic for me anyhow.

    You still have to go through Uplay anyhow, only reason to get it through other platform is if you are waiting for the platform you like to have it on sale, your platforms achievement stuff, or friends list.

    That makes sense to want a single platform, but to blindly hate on Epic is against most people interests.

    Do people not realize that Steam is taking 30% of every devs profits JUST to be on Steam? It's fucking insane.

    Same thing with Apple.
    And Google's play store.




    Epic charges, what, 12%? You guys should be fucking praising Epic. Things like that no only makes games more profitable for devs so they can pump out higher quality stuff - it sometimes even lowers the costs of games for you.

    The main ones people espouse are:

    1) They spied on people when their launcher first launched
    2) Their launcher stinks: no shopping cart, forums, workshops ...
    3) Several exclusives were originally promised to release on Steam

    I grab the free games and played a few.  I have no plans to buy any though.  I've actually bought several games on Steam after getting them on epic.

    The idea of the Epic Store (Giving more to the devs and less to Valve) is good, yeah.
    But you know what? Epic was not the first to try that.

    I can only name my reasons.

    1. Launchers are unnecessary shit in most cases. If I could just directly download a game without ever using one, I gladly would. Steam, Uplay and Epic all force you to use theirs if you want to play a game from them. So at least I want to only have one of them installed on my pc <.<<br />
    2. The launcher, the store and their liberary is bad.
    Today for example I tried to download a game that was smaller than another one. I just wantedo to download the smaller one while not giving up about 5 hours of download. Steam can do that. Simply choose the order. Epic can't even do that...

    3. Exclusives are a bad practice. Not even talking about Epic only. Also talking about console exclusivity. Just let people play on or with whatever they want to <.<<br />
    4. Its getting annoying over the years with how many platforms there are. Uplay, Origin, GOG Galaxy, Steam, Epic, did I miss any? No? Let me come back in 5 years, there will be at least 2 more!
    And all of them have some kind of advantage for this and that and what not.
    Diversity is good. But every good medicine can become poison if you take too much.

    I sort of feel the same but it won't stop me from buying a game at a cheaper price elsewhere.I would consider myself an idiot if I supported for example Steam and all they were doing is trying to rip me off with pricing.
    I can use an example between Steam and Epic,I can't remember ever getting a free game off of Steam but I already have 5 I like on Epic games store that I got for free.
    Point being i don't let my quirky nuances stand in the way of intelligent thinking,I'll simply buy from the store that respects it's customers the most.All Steam offers me is convenience of one app but man I'd have to be real lazy if I couldn't spend 20 seconds to load up another app.

    A perfect example is I have been playing the last two days Might n Magic 8 on GOG.
    There is a BIG difference between GOG and Steam.GOG actually puts in the effort to make sure the game runs,no screwing around where as Steam just says take it or leave it,not our game,we don't support it,you want a refund or not?To me that is a LAZY approach by Steam and one that says they really don't care about you as a customer and sadly I have over 100 games on Steam.

    not trying to be argumentative here , but what is epics refund policy? if it is as good as steams atm I might be swayed.
    Though on the topic of the thread Ubisofts refund policy is also not like steams, maybe thats why they choose to not use steam.


    edit: also some here is mentioning how epic charging indie devs less, yet ubisoft is not an indie dev so though that might be appropriate reason to be mad at camel for his opinion if this was an indy dev title this is not one.

    Nowhere in my post did I say I hate epic, you're reading too much into it.


    For me, it's about having all my games in one place, and that one place being reliable. I don't really want to be reliant on any platform for my games, I'd rather have physical copies, so I was resistant to Steam for years too.

    However, Steam have now proven themselves to be reliable, they aren't going anywhere, so I now feel comfortable buying games through Steam.


    The Epic store is new. If I buy a game through Epic, there is a chance the store might disappear in a few years and I'll lose access to that game. That has happened to me with the Microsoft store and the EA store in the past, lost a few games on both those platforms, which makes me wary of new ones. Once Epic has a proven track record, I'll consider buying through them, though I would still prefer to keep all my library in one place.



    with uplay, I'd rather avoid that too if I could, but I can't. Whether I buy through steam or epic, I'll still have to launch through uplay. So, if I can't buy on steam, may as well buy direct through uplay.

    If Epic wins that lawsuit, the whole industry loses. Not just Apple. Not just Google. The entire console platform business model goes bye-bye.
