Pantheon: Rise Of The Fallen has been in development now for several years and Visionary Realms recently completed their Pre-Alpha 5 "Shake-Out" sessions. The October Producer's Letter and an interview with Producer Ben "Machail" Dean by content creator Nathan NAPALM released over the past week gives a clearer idea of what's next for PA5 and Pantheon's further development.

The last think this game and genre needs is more corporation involvement making decisions based around shareholder interests above the players interests.
True, however many of us don't want it going the Duke Nukem Forever route where technology will pass it by when it is finally ready to release.
Most of us just misguidedly hope to rekindle the good old days the first time we played EQ with a tight knit community and not compete with a theme park mmo which are also deteriorating quickly.
I think if they release 1 continent and a subscription model to fund more development and made leveling super slow and meaningful and then released free expansions to build from there, that would be ideal. Many people are looking forward to this but don't trust the whole go fund me experience and are looking for a tangible playable game they would gladly purchase and pay a sub for to fund further development, at least for an EQ style MMO.
I get it that games need to be super polished and content complete these days or nobody will give them a second look but I think for this particular title it's not the content per se as much as the potential atmosphere of it all. Sure we need loot and dungeons and all that good stuff but at the same time all we want is EQ with a fresh coat of paint that resembles a game from 2015 let alone 2020, but that 2015 to 2020 comparison doesn't really work if you are talking 2025.

I was a fan of FFXi and no longer play and no longer like the direction of the team/design.When I look at what I liked before that NEVER clouds my judgement on what is good NOW or what type of design I prefer/want NOW.
When I see a new game being bantered about such as pantheon or SC or CF whatever game,I take a look, see what the yare doing and determine if it is even worth following or remembering at all.
Originally I did NOT have much hope for this game because since the original EQ "great for that time period"never evolved and never improved what I consider to be NOW weak design ideas.
What changed for me to take more of an interest is when Brad "god rest his soul"stated that he was mostly interested in making a game that "makes sense".That is 100% exactly what i want to hear,i can't stand ideas that don't make any sense and the EQ franchise/s had loads of poor design ideas that did not make sense.
Fast forward many years and what I have seen still to this day with this team are what I call bad design decisions. You can argue that an idea works to speed up the game or make it easier to form a group or it works to reconnect old school EQ players, you can throw tons of reasoning at me and it ALL could very well be correct but that doesn't change what I want to see in a game that >>>"makes sense" with it's design systems.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Well that depends on your own how you say it expectations from a game.If all you need is a new paint job, then maybe a poorly designed game works or you,if all you need is to feel like EQ1 nostalgia LUCY I HOME !! ,maybe it works for you.
I expect a mmorpg to be a game designed around longevity. So right away you know you are in a for a very long time investment. That means your choice to invest years of time in a game had better be darn sure that game is good enough.
I decipher EVERYTHING when i start a new game, customization "NOT sliders and visuals",class design, combat design, how mobs are designed all the systems that make u pa game.
I even look at small things like do I see markers over npc heads after 20 years of that crap.Does an NPC ask me to go kill 10 bears and hands me a bunch of xp for doing so,all those little things either keep me interested or have me searching for the files to delete them.

Proud MMORPG.com member since March 2004! Make PvE GREAT Again!
Exactly!
The game should have been released around 2018; yet it's still in pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-whatever.
This has already taken twice as long as either EQ or EQ2 did to make... twice as long... Let that sink in.
MMO type games only have value when their new things, how many zones will their be, how many raids ? since that has to hold people over for a long time. let say their 5k hardcore 100% support, will that be enough to encourage more? will they piss off noobs ? will they adopt a cash shop since numbers are so low? lot of unknow questions we can assume but don't know and the only info they give is their making great progress on making a game.
So more to your point, VR has modern computing, modern servers, modern software, all the games thst have come out in the last 20 years or so to review, and a modern internet, and still EQ released much earlier.
That is amazing too.
