I haven't played for many years as it refuses to work on Mac... I dunno why it just crashes at startup complaining about something. However the population has dropped massively and the Chinese bought it..... what is going on?

The population is still decent for a game as old as it is, considering the narrow niche it appeals to.
One of the Dev leads claimed in a recent interview published here there has been little interference from the new owners.
He claimed to never have actually met or spoken with anyone from PA, which isn't surprising.
I believe they purchased CCP so they could open new universes in China and other Asian markets.
Just found this recent story about EVE partnering with Netease who are preparing to relaunch EVE in China.

Found another article where they opened up the western server Serenity to the Korean market last fall.
