EQ Style Console MMO?

OhhgrizyyyOhhgrizyyy Member CommonPosts: 2
I've been genuinely bored with honestly ESO and Tera lately but if anyone who ever played EQ back in the the day and has experience playing several MMO's on console. What is probably the closest thing to Everquest thats on console?

Don't think there is much choice to be honest. Maybe give Black Desert a try, its the only one i can think of at the moment.

    Final Fantasy XIV

    Easily your best option.

What was that EQ console game way back when that they foolishly shut down and never made a follow up to? Legends of Norrath or EQ champions?

FFXi and EQ are like brother sister but FFXI is way more in depth and versatile.
I have not played in a while though and it I think they cancelled support for the PS2 but definitely should work on PS3+.

FFXi has seriously lead the way the entire time mmorpg's have been around.Language translator, mutli class job system, true grouping experience,QOL improvements for an aged game/community allowing for your group made up of npc's and a pet if you are a pet class.
it is possible to find grouping later game but imo I personally don't like end game as it completely changed what FFXi was all about and turned it into Wow with gear scores.

Typically if you just start talking to someone in a guild/Linkshell they will get you an invite if that is your thing.Or you can just play solo acquiring NPC's to form your group and they are quite good, dumb but good.Clunky controls if your used to modern games but for me it was perfect except for lack of mouse aim because I used the numpad+mouse for everything.

Any other game similar?Nope I have never seen it and likely because FFXI was 2002 and Wow/Eq2 came out just a couple years later so all the devs started copying Wow/EQ2 design.

FFXIV is yes also like it but not really as FFXIV is the by product of changing into a WOWish design but the game overall has some differences and more options.

FFXI-FFXIV the main difference is that FFXI's system before the new end game crap was extremely versatile and the combat was far less handcuffed than FFXIV and modern mmorpg's.
The best way I can describe "handcuffed?"The simplest way is to say that YOU do matter in a game like FFXI however in FFXIV and others, your gear matters way more than you do.This is also FFXI end game, you can't even do some content unless your gear is up to snuff.

The whole idea behind end game is imo very lame,a nice EASY cheap way to keep players hooked grinding gear scores and making cheap instances. When there is no more game I am OUT,IDC about grinding gear scores.

You sure you played eq? Eq 100 percent was and is your gear matters more than your skill. The combat of ff14 and eq are the close, on console there is none close.

Gear alone isn't going to save you in  Everquest you must have the skill to conserve your mana, make the right decision to snare, root or in some way incapacitate a melee add and not a casting one. To work together with others when shit hits the ceiling as it often does in Everquest, gear may give you a little extra mana or HP but it won't make you a good player. Necros who know when to help their casters by sharing mana or using their undead skills to turn a fight or a monk training away an add and feigning death at the right time.

Clerics who camp at the right time to come back and save everyone with rezzes, none of this will you learn from having good gear. Skill and experience matters in Everquest.

A good player in Everquest is very noticeable and no good gear is going to elevate a lousy player.
