Ok, I take it back. Am really glad that this isnt messing with me in the form of motion sickness like alot of 1st pp fps games, so I give up my complaints about 1stpp only. You win this round Sheep boy.
I'm a bit farther in now - in Act 2. And I'm still not seeing many bugs and I've had zero crashes. Even the graphic glitches I experienced in Act 1 (like Jackie walking through an elevator door, a floating server's tray in a bar, someone sitting on an invisible bar stool, etc.) I'm seeing a lot less in Act 2. I did have what appears to be a memory leak that was slowing down the game a bit in Act 1 (Afterlife club) but quitting and re-starting fixed that.
I'm playing with RTX on ultra and DLSS Quality on a 2070 Super and AMD 3700 and my performance is just fine too on top of being gorgeous to look at. Haven't benched it with an FPS meter but I can usually "feel" when a game drops below 40 FPS or so and other than my suspected memory leak I haven't felt that once.
The game play itself: stories, quests, random encounters, combat, etc. feels great to me. I tend to play these types of game that have different approaches to solving missions as someone who uses just enough stealth and hacking but it doesn't take much to get me to switch to full on assault mode. I use a pistol, shotgun and assault rifle with an optical scope (the only sniper rifle I've found so far has pretty low DPS) and that has gotten me through everything so far. It's pretty well the same way I played the Deus Ex games.
I did run into one side "gig" mission where my tech was not high enough to open a door and I thought to myself, "well this sucks" but exploring a bit I found a way around that door. I was so pleased that I celebrated by engaging and wiping out the whole gang in that area.
I'm enjoying it and like I said, bugs just haven't been an issue for me - maybe lucky - so I have no regrets about being a day 1 player... which I was going to be anyway since I pre-ordered this a year ago
And yes, Johnny Silverhand is a dick so far.

Most people think first person is "harder" than third, I am wondering how much of the angst is due to people wanting an even easier game? I notice driving is third person, so hopefully that's easy enough for you?
Ok, I take it back. Am really glad that this isnt messing with me in the form of motion sickness like alot of 1st pp fps games, so I give up my complaints about 1stpp only. You win this round Sheep boy.
Driving in 1st person sucks though, its done pretty badly.
At least they added 3rd person cam for driving cars.
I haven't tried driving in 1st person, but handling on vehicles really sucked with m&k, I was all over the road even in 3rd pp and didnt see any options to change driving sensitivty. I plugged in my nvidia shield controller and it was alot more calm.
Another thing I think 3rd pp would work good for in game and not lose any of the 1st person stuff would be a cover system that once you hugged wall you went into 3rd person like how it is in Deus Ex HR/MD.
Would be another way to see the stuff char is wearing too. Maybe some good modder can add something similar.
I've been enjoying my stay in Night City so far. The story has been fun, performance is good, although I did get a few bugs. Nothing game stopping though, thankfully.
My biggest disappointment was actually the character creator so far. I was hoping there would at least be a few body types to choose from, but there's nothing to adjust there. All the work seems to have gone into giving us tons of different funky eyes, and a whole bunch of crooked nose to pick from.

I have some time next week to sit back and play some games. I will probably pick this game up then and start playing it. I'm pretty excited as its a game right up my alley and I am happy to see a game finally live up to the hype (if my gaming friends are correct).
Lastly and most importantly, take care of yourself Delete! Slow steps, the games will be here and the site will be here as well. The best possible thing right now is not the games, the hype, or the excitement, its your health and all of us here wish for that above all else!
So, for the 7 years of development and hype... is it living up to it?
I'm reading a lot of positive comments here, just not mindblowing experiences.
I would say so. It just feels like it can use a bit more polish. The game world is fricking amazing, and immersive as hell though. Definitely worth putting up with a few bugs for.

See, the way I look at it, the combination of solid gameplay, good performance, immersive world, interesting story with some real choices are what combine into a "mind blowing" experience, not any one feature.
Sounds like this one has the potential to be such with a bit more polish so I'll probably check it out one day, maybe when it hits a GOTY release.

So, for the 7 years of development and hype... is it living up to it?
I'm reading a lot of positive comments here, just not mindblowing experiences.
Its almost 9 years of development.
The game is a 7/10.
Living up to the hype? - not even close
The main quesline is super short Keanu character doesn't have a very satisfying arc The game is actually pretty safe and not very controversial, language is basically as edgy as it gets, dismembered bodies have been done in so many other games already The story is sort of meh
Most of the game world is just so superficial- all those people walking around are just shells, so much of the world you can't interact with, the shit you find to pick up is always the same shit - cards, ashtrays, same vinyl record - same ammo cases, same safes, same assets reused 10000 times in every mission.
The game world is skin deep, pretry but so shallow
The sidequests feel same/same, I did about 2 dozen and was like - its the same shit I am doing over and over again - my character is already in god mode doing 30k headshots, making him stronger would be pointless
Dunno how after 8 years this is what we got - they spent all their time on graphics and forgot to make the world filled with interesting interactive content
See the thing is many of your points appear to be opinion based or the result of your particular min/maxer play style.
Some with a different POV are experiencing the game quite differently and appear to be enjoying it quite a bit.
@Torval mused to me the other night that this forum has a population of very picky gamers, who insist games meet most or all of their personal expectations or it must be a mediocre effort.
We both agreed that we fall into this category at times, me more than him for sure.
I wonder if you can point to any game in the past 5 years that you really enjoyed or had respect for.
If not, perhaps then it really is you, not them and if you'll just try to drop some of the jade on your back you'll start enjoying them more.
Unless of course you enjoy playing games so you can later throw shade on them, been guilty of it myself at times, heck I'll slag on games I've never played even, it's just what we do.

I adore this game. I think the critics got it right overall and, as usual, the users tend to be overly whiney.
I mean, look at some of this guys complaints:
Penis size has no effect on gameplay. Gender doesn't make a difference. Keanu isn't in it enough. It plays it too safe. Boobs and dildos aren't a big deal now. (As if mainstream games have this on the regular) Dismemberment isn't edgy anymore.
After having played the game for like 20 hours, all of that stuff sounds so petty when up against what an incredible experience it is overall.
There is one complaint that I have. It is not well balanced overall. I'm playing on very hard and am not having any difficulty at all. I hope at some point they improve the difficulty level/balance so that it can offer proper challenge at all the difficulty levels.

Fact - penis size/appearance anything has zero impact on gameplay - they put it in just to create controversy, it has no actual gameplay implications. Male/Female doesn't make any difference either it seems - or genderless - again this whole thing was pure marketing - because the game doesn't give a shit about what pixels your character has below the waist.
Nudity is also way overblown from what it really is in game - lots of dildos/strap ons and boobs - like really, that's a big deal now? heh. The "strip clubs" in game are super lame too - you played GTA - yeah it's the same level of nudity or lack of
ooh a sex shop with dildos on display... come on - all so juvenile
That's the thing about the "adult" stuff in this game, it's juvenile in nature
Do you say that when you walk down the street in greenwich village and pass a sex shop with those items in the window?
This stuff sets the scenes, it creates the atmosphere. If one wants a gritty city it's going to have to have things like this, trash everywhere, gangs, homeless, run down areas, etc.
"Boob Sliders" also don't affect game play but they do create the physical being of the character. I don't know if one can see the size of one's package through pants but I suspect it's there to make things equal and of course to give the player a sense of their character.
and while it doesn't affect game play as you say, it does affect how the player feels about their character in relation to the world. Whether they are male, female or something else.
If this means nothing to you then great. Doesn't mean a lot to me either. but it might mean something to someone else.

Could do with a bit more time in the oven that's for sure.
CDProjectRed took a big risk by going for a completely different genre and setting than what they're used to and it showed.
The poor performance in the old gen consoles might have damaged a bit of their reputation and expose consolde hardware but the game still sold like hotcakes so they'll can just keep on pumping patches and FREE DLC's in the next year while ironing out major bugs and optimization.
I'm still hopeful that they'll do another pass on the shooting and driving, AI and eventually add the metro station back to travel between the city like it was teased in trailers. If the DLC's are of the same quality bar of The Witcher 3 ones the game will stay relevant and selling good!
Was great in the sense that it exposed a lot of gamers to game development hurdles of a company seen as "perfect" for many because it was a game announced so early while suffering several public delays and that showed that it should have been delayed even further.
People expecting GTA5 level's of polish in Cyberpunk forgot that Rockstar has been doing that type of game for decades and every new GTA is the result of all the previous work and experience accumulated through decades of making that kind of game.
Just like Witcher 3 massive success was the culmination of the learning while developing Witcher 1 & 2 and hopefully Cyberpunk will have it's iterations too as the universe has amazing potential!

I was actually wondering, since Rockstar did a western and a modern series, that they'll do a futuristic GTA type game... maybe more interactive than Cyberpunk.

The sequence, "brain dance" initiation is unavoidable. It's not only part of the main quest several times, it's the main investigative tool for several side quests,
Yesterdays patch changed that sequence substantially. The initiation graphics are now both shorter and less flashy.

Well....I can think of one way to avoid the risk, just don't play the game, especially if you know you are at risk.
I imagine you could even return it for refund on this basis with few challenges.

I'd love to see Rockstar's have a go at a "Star Citizen" kinda game but with their polish and less focus on sim and more arcade fun but I dunno if their investors would be willing to put the $$$ into expanding the engine to make a bunch of space nerds happy when they can just keep making GTA's and printing money. A man can dream though
Pre-ordered on the PS4. Only played threw the opening sequences for Corpo and Nomad lifestyles. Just wanted to get the flavor for the game before I shelved it until the patches fix the majority of the issues I have been hearing about.

Well not playing it at all as a solution goes without saying obviously.
But if you're going to play it anyway, that particular trigger was stamped out quickly as it should have been since it's not just a "one of" sequence but something you run into quite often.

I have now run into a few more serious bugs. All of them happened after yesterday's patch 1.04 update for me so I'm not sure if they were introduced by that or if I had just been previously lucky.
1. I was saved at a spot where I had to get into Panam's truck to continue a mission before 1.04. When I restarted the game I get in the truck and then I got an infinite loading screen. Forced quit the game and restarted a couple of times and had the same issue. I was afraid I had a save file incompatible with the new patch which would have sucked, but I decided to try something else before loading an old save file: I quick traveled into town and then back to the motel to continue the mission forcing an area load both times. Got in the truck and that did the trick so I could continue.
2. In a later side mission (still in badlands with Panam) all enemies, me, and the mission NPC I needed to rescue all became invulnerable. It was funny as hell with everyone hacking and firing at point blank range with zero damage. I reloaded the save a couple of times and the problem persisted. Quitting the game and then restarting fixed it though.
3. The most annoying one I have not found a workaround for though is that a few times I've gotten phone calls with details for a mission. I see the caller in the pop-up window but neither the audio nor subtitle text plays. The new mission was there at the end of the "conversation" though. That one is annoying because not only do you miss the flavor but also because there are many times in the game when your response choices are timed so no idea if that was one of those times. This has happened to me about 3 or 4 times so far.
So I'm revising my previous posts where I said bugs had just been graphics glitches for me. My luck seems to have run out
