"I’m pleased to say we’ve been continuing with development, establishing a smarter roadmap going forwards,"

Development continues, and they're getting a better roadmap!

Heck, a good roadmap is really all you need these days.

I still don't understand how this game was only runner up for biggest dissappointment? What did the winner do? Throw someone's grandma down a flight of stairs?
I am sure if they had a category for biggest Scam.. this would have taken second there as well.. because Mr Walsh (Caspian) is a loser.

Serious question - why is anyone still talking to and interviewing this guy?

Yeah i looked at the interviews title and was like wth, that game is done for, and so is the studio.

$250K a year? This was a small CF MMO, not a big studio where most senior level developers earn around $100k a year. Sure Welsh Walsh is not earning what the CEO of a major studio earns, but then this is a tiny operation in comparison.
Dhleath forgot to mention there are reports he was also paying his wife and a few senior dev leads similarly "competitive" wages for their roles in SBS.

I've never seen any sort of credible source for these figures since as far as I know he's never released the information.

Could have leaked out as part of the ongoing lawsuit but can't confirm regardless but perhaps the legal team has been allowed to see the audit Jeremy speaks.

If these numbers are true you certainly can understand why he doesn't want to make them public, too many people know exactly where he lives.

i would tend to agree - his wife and one other relative at least (the company lawyer was my understanding) were also on the payroll

it is the usual bullshit of jeremey/caspian saying 'we are a very transparent company' whilst hiding stuff from us

i suspect that the auditors found everything ok because it would have been deemed reasonable to pay his wife as a consultant, or another relative as a lawyer

it could be embarrassing for him to show where $8 million dollars were spent given that his kickstarter asked for $900,000 to be able to develop something playable that would attract further outside investment

as an additional observation he shuttered the studio 8 months ago, and says he and a team of volunteers have been working hard despite all the adversity and challenges - the 8 minute video he cobbled together spouting the same old shit showed no new artwork or video footage and he for sure would have showcased that VERY prominently to try and start to rebuild trusts and interest

my take on the video was it was just enough evidence to show they are 'working hard on developing the project' to keep the lawsuits at bay

Ahh good to see you back here.  Had not heard from you in a while.  It seems that I shall have to forgo roaming the hills of your kingdom in a black robe while prophesizing doom and gloom.

On a more serious note, I'd suggest massive caution if he sends out "NDA" notices that he asks you to sign as they will likely contain hidden language related to suing him.

Have you looked into Adept Games yet?  It appears that many are carrying on role-playing as a developer under a new name.

as one of the biggest whales/backers of CoE ($19,600) i have tens of thousands of reasons i want to see this game succeed

that said jeremey walsh aka caspian has for me lost all credibility - he has repeatedly and intentionally lied to the community specifically about release dates of some of the 'milestone' development events confessing that it was because their internal metrics showed that they would get a spike in crowd funding from the community

when it was pointed out that, like the little boy who cried wolf too many times, that intentionally lying to and deceiving the very people who are trusting you and funding your 'position competitive' salary of just under $250,000/year isn't going to work, I was accused by caspian of trying to undermine the studio and close it down

so whilst i want the game to come out, i will not trust caspian or the team again, period

folks can come to their own conclusions

my personal conclusion is that caspian, though wanting to bring the project to fruition, will intentionally and maliciously deceive, lie and manipulate the community if that is what he perceives it will take to keep the ball rolling

hopefully he finds a way to bring the ambitious and amazing vision of a game to launch, without fecking us over again

The team size grew and shrank as we had capital, so any averaging would need to take that into account. it would also need to take into account that some of the hires we made were executive level hires, who generally make more, industry-wide, than anyone else.

All he is going to do IMHO is drag this out and then "release" something which is a total embarrassment and barely has basic (move around) functionality in order to protect himself from the lawsuits.

Imagine taking 8 million dollars, delivering nothing but lies, shutting down the company and laying off all the staff then saying you're still working on the game and getting interviews like anything you say has any credibility.

The real story here is how he was able to take all these peoples money, lie like a rug, and get away with it.

I appreciate this interview for the endless laughs it provided.
Yet if you go to the company’s Twitter account you will see some of the same people that he burned talking about how hopeful they are...

It’s frightening how gullible certain people are.

There is nothing particularly unique to gaming in that. I see news articles everyday where people continue to have blind faith in people and institutions that have screwed them over not just once but chronically.

People's beliefs are more powerful than some developer's ability to produce.

Well... to be fair they needed prompting back then... and Bill even stepped down from writing the review of PFO if I recall... I think he didn't want to ruin his relationship with (Steve Jobs of Gaming) Ryan Dancey

I had to spend plenty of time in the Principal's office back in the PFO days... even though every single thing I said turned out to be true.

I do not expect the staff to be perfect.  I just expect that they learn and grow.  We were 100% right about PFO.  100% right about Greedmonger.  100% right about COE.  So maybe next time around acknowledge that some credibility has been built and don't cater to the Ivory Tower folks who want to silence all criticism.

How many people are no longer with us because they were accused of "trolling" those games?   Lets not be so quick on the trigger and let people speak and make rational arguments.

Well in CoE Jeremy showed he learned nothing and grew not an inch, though it is far harder to say how his team fared in that regard. Just one example, he showed the same lack of understanding of PvP gamers when they chose names as he did ages later when they choose territories.

Ahh good to see you back here.  Had not heard from you in a while.  It seems that I shall have to forgo roaming the hills of your kingdom in a black robe while prophesizing doom and gloom.

lol - well - you might get to roam around in an MMO I am helping develop with a couple of friends, 2 of who helped code in some big name projects.

it's a low poly game and will for sure need crowd funding at some point - though we won't be seeking that until we actually have a playable alpha so that folks can see something tangible and play it rather than get geeked and hyped by a bunch of pie in the sky ideas and secondly, once they have seen and played it, can then judge if it's something that after experiencing it, want to support it to see further development, or think it's a bunch of crap and not worth throwing a single dime at

i'll give more details once we have something worth giving details about ;)

(ironically we met through CoE lol)
