Forgot to mention one thing - Cyberpunk 2077 made me change my mind about Geralt from Witcher series.
See i always hated how in Witcher games you were forced to play Geralt and there were no alternatives.
But having played V in Cyberpunk 2077 it made me realize how weak of a character V is, and going with a more defined character like Geralt actually makes for better gameplay.
V is actually one of the biggest weaknesses in Cyberpunk story, V is just not very interesting its a very mediocre character because it lacks a strong definition like Geralt had.
So turns out having a more restricted character choice that is a strongly defined character makes for a much stronger story.
V is so meh... like I didn't even care what happend to V in all 6 endings, funny that your own character is the most forgettable
With the Witcher games everything was handed to them on a silver platter, since they could take everything straight from the books. Andrzej Sapkowski had done all the hard work for them.
Cyberpunk 2077 has basically exposed CDPR for being a one trick Pony.
Coming from several playthroughs of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the story/mission writing in CyberPunk 2077 gotta be the biggest letdown. Its total weak sauce! Flat and boring!
Even getting Keanu Reeves involved could not save them from this disaster. I am actually suprised Keanu Reeves went along with this and did not demand better writing/dialog for his character.
Yep I feel the same way - I really failed to realize just how good Witcher 3 writing really was - Cyberpunk 2077 is such an obvious step or 2 steps down from Witcher 3 in terms of story and side missions. It really feels flat in comparison to me.
Keanu sounds bored in so many lines, and the material is poorly written, so can't blame him much. A voice actor can't fix boring material.
Err, Keanu always sounds bored going through his lines, pretty much his entire persona in John Wick.

But that doesn't mean the 13 mil sales can be called "relatively good". THAT is the problem.
Actually that is exactly what it should be called. Relatively good. It's relative to the refunds and other issues it's experienced. Had it not had the issues it has now, it could have been called very good. Sales went the wrong way, 13 million after a few weeks is good, sure, but refunds are still pouring in.

True points. Adding to that, the refunds counted in that figure are those done by CDPR themselves that does not include those done from other sources. That matters because those numbers could be much larger than some think.

Wake me up when a game is refunded "in the millions".
Even if there will be 1 more million in..refunds, that will still be 12 million sales, with 4 millions in the last 2 ( !! ) weeks.

You're fanning hard for the game so you argue semantics of the word relative. Either you don't understand the word or you're willfully ignoring its definition. Which one of those two people would you prefer to be?

uhm, I never said the game sucks. I'm saying that the term relative is just that.. relative. I've played the game well over 100 hours at this point. Doesn't change the meaning of the term 'relative' that you were railing against when you came in here so matter-of-factly..
The game deserves the criticism it receives in the vast majority of cases. Some may take it a little overboard, but truly the game has a ton of issues.
I can acknowledge that and still have played it for over 100 hours. I've got well over 500 in FO76 too. The game is still buggy - a longshot from the trash fire it was - but I know it's got issues. I can play something for what it is.
It sucks what is going on with consoles, but it does seem like the game is doing great on PC. It is not like everyone just decided to stop playing. Hell, right now there are over 200k people playing it on Steam (Only behind Dota 2 and CS Go)
Over 13 million people bought a particular game right at launch, just on hype, with no clue whether it was actually good or not. So you see why publishers want to hype their games excessively.
The real question isn't how much the game sold. It's how much the game sold compared to what it was expected to sell. The information we need is what number the investors realistically wanted to reach.
16-28 million units in the first month. They did 13 million in the first 10 days of that month. They want 30 million in its first year.
/Cheers, Lahnmir
So what's the read on that? While 13 million is a huge number, it is small compared to those expectations.
We need to keep in mind that most game sales occur at the point of launch, while these are also the most valuable sales, as they are at full price.
We must also not underestimate the impact that bad word of mouth, controversy, and being flat out removed from an entire platform will have on the long tail that they are counting on to more than double its sales over the next year.
Agree. And not. 13 million in 10 days means you have 21 days left to sell at least 3 million with Christmas in sight. And although the game has been removed from the PS store it is pretty safe to assume it will be back within a year creating a significant surge in sales. And I am not even talking about the boost that the official New Gen release will bring which will surely happen in the coming eleven months. We’ll see what happens, calling it a disaster or not good seems like a stretch for now.
/Cheers, Lahnmir
Ill put the correction here ..
its 18 - 25 million in first month , they have no chance of making that mark now .. it will be fortunate to reach 18 in a year(without the help of sales) which way under shoots the target .. and again they borrowwed money to make this game .. from more than one source ..

Analysts had forecast that
"Cyberpunk" would sell anywhere from 18 million to 25 million copies in
its first month. The day it came out CD Projekt said the game had eight
million preorders, of which about 59%, or 4.7 million copies, were for

Interesting observation, the "average gamer" may still be buying Cyberpunk 2077 seeing as they don't closely follow gaming news.
As I was returning a PS4 copy my wife bought from Gamestop two customers asked the clerk about buying it and he was all too willing to talk up how great it was.
Both thanked me profusely for setting the record straight and didn't buy it; the clerk not so much.
Hey, if you can't save everyone, at least try to save those you can.
I did end up buying the PC version online because after checking first with my son, it's still the only game he was interested in playing after Ghost of Tushima (sic), which another family member already covered.
Here's the thing, he's unaware of what features might be missing having never really followed the game's development very closely, he isn't hyper critical of game developers, nor has any real expectations from any game he buys except will it be fun or not.
Not sure he wasn't switched at birth or something, but he does enjoy more games than I do for sure.

I stand corrected, in that case they still have to sell another 5 million, not 3. But I have a hard time believing they can sell 5 million units in 10 days after pre-orders but will struggle to sell another 5 million in the other 346 days of the year. A year that will definitely feature a relaunch on the PS Store and a New Gen launch.
shares tumbling seems like a knee jerk reaction to all the negativity to me. You know, as well as me, that simply yelling doom enough can have a huge effect on shares and stock without something actually happening (Believe it or not, in my country a brand went bankrupt simply because a comedian said that those who were using it were losers).
We’ll see what happens in the coming months, I have no problem eating crow if it turns out I was wrong. I do have a problem with yelling doom prematurely, and constantly.

Yes that is a totally insane idea.

Eh, I disagree with this attitude in its entirety. People are capable of taking a stand on multiple/many issues, and if we ignored problems just because bigger problems exist, nothing would get done because there's always a bigger problem up to the point that the sun is going to fucking die one day.
Here's hoping that they go back to the Witcher franchise. Maybe let us roll our own Witcher. Maybe let us play Ciri or Vesemir. There's plenty of stories to be told in that setting.
Oh, they will mate. I actually saw on the tv (european TV - channel), an interview with Andrzej Sapkowski that he has agreed with CDPRJ and gave them the rights to continue the work on the Witcher Franchise, and if it's needed he's ready to write more stories about the Witcher Universe.
Recently CDPRJ even hinted that next game will be The Witcher 4, but won't be focused on Geralt (tho Geralt will appear in the game). There's also a leak "so to speak", that there's a team already working on the Witcher 4, but that's about I know.
Who knows, they might drop some trailer about The Witcher 4 (an early version of the trailer), as they did 7 years ago with Cyberpunk. This company loves to gives hints and what can we expect as the next game.
But I am pretty sure this will be the Witcher 4.

Taking stand is fine, having a freaking crusade or obsession....not so much.
A stand is you know, giving feedback and so on, not trying your hardest to absolutely destroy something in the process of it.
Bad for peoples state of mind to be so crazily fired up about any one game/company/ or thing.
Can people not see how nuts this is? No clue what this is really about, or peoples state of mind, but going off so hard over a game is so far passed healthy criticism into obsessive behavior.
When did it become ok to hope for people to not only lose their jobs/companies but destroy everything in a crusade? Awful lot of regular people that work for this company that some seem to forget about in their crusade to destroy and burn everything to the ground.

I agree. I think drawing attention to issues that bother you in relation to a game like this is important. The continued criticism will have an effect on CDPR one way or the other. For fans of the company they should want to push them to uphold the standard they themselves have set with the Witcher series. Before launch many were anticipating a Witcher quality game (or better) and the start of a new IP with the same standards in place their previous series had. Though many are happy with the product they got many were not. If we are able to hold a company up as the example for how you create in this industry, we need to be able to call them out when they fail to reach that example.

Not sure he wasn't switched at birth or something, but he does enjoy more games than I do for sure.

shares tumbling seems like a knee jerk reaction to all the negativity to me.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

Oh, they will mate. I actually saw on the tv (european TV - channel), an interview with
Andrzej Sapkowski that he has agreed with CDPRJ and gave them the rights to continue the work on the Witcher Franchise, and if it's needed he's ready to write more stories about the Witcher Universe.
SO much nonsense.
