imageUbisoft and Lucasfilm Announce a New Story-Driven Open-World Star Wars Game | MMORPG.com

It looks like Lucasfilm and Ubisoft are teaming up for a Star Wars game much in the way that Bethesda did for their upcoming Indiana Jones game. The developer, Massive, known for games like The Division 2 and Far Cry 3, will be taking the helm at crafting an open-world title in the Star Wars universe.

So it will just be Assassin's Creed/Far Cry/Watch Dogs/Every Ubisoft Game with lightsabers. Gotcha.

The real news is just that the license is not exclusive to Electronic Arse anymore.

Their games do seem to be cut and paste format. EA is working with them on the project so maybe not this time?

EA is the KING of "Cut and Paste". If you've played one call of duty you've played em all. Same goes for their sports games and their sims games. Same old shit given a new coat of paint and re-released to the feeble minded.

Caugh. Call of Duty is Activision and Battlefield is EA. Caugh.

I find EA is more the master of RNG and Micro dings. Outside of that, they make some solid games but tend to exploit their customers.

The Division is not like Assassin's Creed which is not like Rayman which is not like Watch Dogs which is not like Anno which is not like Just Dance which is not like Far Cry which is not like Riders Republic which is not like Rainbow Six Siege and on and on.
This is a tired argument that has been blown out of proportion.

This game is being developed by Massive Entertainment who did The Division 2 and World in Conflict
    It is in good hands

Why do you think EA had Respawn handle their last Star Wars game?
Focus also on the developer involved not just the publisher involved.

When you separate it like that, you obfuscate the ones that are similar. Modern AC, Watch Dogs, and Far Cry ARE the same formula with different paint. The only difference is that one is about murder ninjas, one is about hipsters, and one is about some random bloke fighting a charismatic despot.

I like open world as it was closer to an mmorpg feel. Thought i'd love RDR2, but uggg, just love my mmorpg's, pick two and dedicate no ADHD pinball (how i was playing mmorpgs for awhile, back to my roots), what i did yesterday, today, and tomorrow will always matter. Then my boys are both back in wow after like playing since they were 4'ish, huge on and off's ofc. I mean the younger one always played but not at the level he is playing at now and all becasue his older brother was hospitalized for several months not long back underlining health issue, which we did not see coming, and couldn't even visit him, yes during covid, so yes lets talk stress omg, wow, he's on the mend and back home, but playing the living shit outta wow becasue when in the hospital i got him a laptop and his brother stepped up, got him playing wow, and spent every second he could playing with his bruh, and when he got out just days before xmas, i thought that'l be the end of them playing together as they never really have, and yeah already 10/10 pushing M+15 and i'm now a casual ass haha, plus horde, watching their raid stream last night started talking about how we are all squished together as in both factions playing side by side so much, wondering if that's a direction?

Please God no. Not Ubisoft. A star wars game is great but not one with an entire map full of useless collectables.

I wish it was SWG 2 or something similar, but the chances of it even being an MMO are slim to none.

I am extremely happy about this!

I like Ubisoft, I think they're one of the best of the big houses (not hard to achieve, given the low bar set by the likes of EA). They've got an interesting selection of games and aren't afraid to take risks.

Yes, each Assassins Creed is much like the one before, but thats how all series work. Keep the core framework, and slowly iterate where you can to make it better. Sometimes those iterations are what i like, sometimes not, but in general I think the breadth and quality has continued to go up over time.

With this newly announced game from the makers of The Division, im pretty hopeful. I got 80-100 hours out of TD2 which is far better than the majority of big-release games these days. I thought the world building was great and the core combat loop was pretty fun (considering i dont like shooters, this is high praise from me!). The loot / itemisation sucked, and there was no reason to continue playing once I'd completed all the content so their whole "game as a service" model failed for me.

So, my hope is that the new game can deliver the same quality of world building and a decent combat loop. If they can deliver those two things, that'll make me happy! If they can also deliver a non-intrusive story, some great secondary objectives or playstyles, then it'll be great.

    So here we are ...again.
Why can't they just make a great open world game without the Star Wars logo?
Well unless you been living under a rock, devs do this to ensure a high number of sales without anyone even seeing the product. They make these sales on the popularity of the IP.
I want the game to sell on it's own merit,i want people to look at it and think GREAT game and not jsst another Star Wars game that won't even barely feel like a SW game.

IMO soon you see the IP brand you might as well forget this being any good.

It has more to do with the owner of the IP wanting to leverage that IP on multiple fronts. One of those is video games.

If the owners didn't want a game made they would just not have a game made.

Disney paid a hefty chunk of change for this IP and they are going to get their money back and then some.

I never really looked at their cash shop to know what's on them, but do they have items like that on the store?  I thought they were all just skins?  So you would have a jetpack, but it would look kind of shitty, but you can buy one that looks way better.

full gear, skins, and boosters. The one thing i give credit Ubisoft for is that they allow you to buy some of that stuff with the currency you earn for unlocking achievements in their games. And you can use that currency on any of their games.

But yes, they would sure as hell sell the best jet pack in there and give you a very basic one in game.

EDIT: you don't really need anything in their cash shop, but it is usually good gear until you eventually out level it and it usually cost too much to upgrade so you never use it again.

I think Ubisoft might be changing their pattern of cut and paste games recently. I've really been enjoying Immortals Fenyx Rising lately and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Breath of the Wild. It's a little bit of that mixed with some AC. The humor might turn some people off but I haven't found it annoying yet.

I am excited for this. Ubisoft is one of my fav companies. I have over 100 hours in valhalla and no where near 100%. Not sure how someone said their games are copy and paste they have a huge variety. Of course games in the same series are similar, but that is to be expected. The Div 2 and R6 are no where near each other. The closest you could prob get would be wildlands vs farcry, but they are still different.
A huge open world star wars game sounds amazing to me. I am just curious what chars / story arc they will use.
