Loved that game. Probably won't go back to it though. It was of a time and for me it will remain a very fond memory. However, my tastes and preferences have moved on from that time. If I tried to play it now, there is every chance that my experience wouldn't be as positive as it was then, and could taint my memory.
However, for those who are interested, it is a fantastic game. Give it a go.
Wow! What blast from the past. I betaed this game.
Same here. I think early alpha as well. I know I was there in chat with Coleman when he was demoing the game for Ubisoft and was Crowing (see what I did there) about how great it ran and how little bandwidth it required.
SB.EXE errors and all. It was a fun game.

"The shadowbane is an open battlefield that can be arbitrarily harvested in the game."
Whoever created the Steam page for Shadowbane is not fluent in English. It's far from clear that this is even legal, as opposed to basically putting a private server on Steam.
Things that make no sense bother me.The characters are soo puny idk if they are even 100 poly so that you can't see any detail or imo even enjoy your character. The giant icons over the player are a huge eye sore and when you watch a large battle of even 50 players the screen is just littered with those icons. I would assume it is all to cater to older slower bandwidth, slower pc's but if yo uare going to bring this back in 2021 you need to put some effort in to it and make it suitable for this era.
So this is just a cheap implementation for one purpose,to run a cash shop and hope all the cheats sort themselves out while spending money. As is it is far too dated to be playable.

IMHO, that was a game that deserved more success than it received.
I'd just come off some games where there was a great deal of griefing and decided that instead of getting ganked by dOOds, I'd join them. So I joined the biggest group of griefers I could find - who at the time of my joining owned an entire continent - only to log on two days later to see our capital under attack. By the end of the week they were scattered with all their cities in ruins and I was homeless.
I really don't have much luck in these sorts of things.
In Lineage 2, on the Hindemith server, we'd actually kick the inhabitants out of a castle if they proved to be asses.
This happened several times. It's not that the inhabitants couldn't pk, or couldn't raise taxes or anything. But if they were complete and utter jerks and harrassed everyone all the time, the server would just show up at a siege and remove them.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Depends how much gold is worth or how easy it is to obtain otherwise you can buy gold from the shop and pay your way through the game. Unless gold doesn't matter. I have vague memories of gold being easy to obtain and only one of the things you need but not the only one. So, unsure if it's p2w or p2notgrind for 20 hours.
Weird, I looked up the "developer" and it brings up a trademark page on google that shows they applied for the trademark for Shadowbane? I don't really understand how that process works, but is it possible they bought the rights to the game? Or is this some weird company stealing the game and trying to trademark it so they have the rights by force?
Edit:
Looking into it further I saw a comment on the steam page
seeing as Changyou has owned SB since 2012. Slowest cash grab I've ever seen.
So I wonder if they bought the rights to it and never ended up launching it until now? Also some of the reviews are saying a pro is that the game isn't running on SB Emu so I'm assuming this is a legit server? Weird.

Hmm.. may have to look

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
