The big surprise is the reveal of Cathay as playable. Most thought they wouldn't touch that but apparently Games Workshop has worked with them in the unit and lore creation. The reason people thought they'd skip it is because they skipped Araby in game 2 due to worries about offending people.
The game also deviates from the 8th edition in that each Chaos God is playable with their own, separate army. This would require quite a bit of expansion of the unit rosters.
A year ago, someone made a guess as to possible construction:
Happy days, i know what I'll be playing later this year :-)
I will admit, don't really care about the human factions, but more chaos is good. Didn't spot any chaos dwarves but plenty of time for them to be revealed.

I did enjoy playing as Archaon in game 1 but the faction never got fleshed out enough to be worth replaying for me. Actually neither horde factions are up to snuff even now, although I'm hoping that Beastmen get updated in the final WH2 DLC.
I will likely try Cathay first as I think it will be more fun to defeat the demon gods. I'm not a fan of the human factions in WH1 but Cathay should be different enough for me. I never thought Kislev was large enough to turn into a starting faction and so I'm not overly excited top play them.
Even though the four chaos gods factions will be fairly diverse, the end goal will likely be identical. And so I worry about replayability. But we don't know exactly how the realms of chaos will work. Maybe you need to fight your way out of it before coming into the world. The trailer also hints at the Daemon Prince, who in lore ends up being Be'lakor and has a united Daemon army from all four factions. But without limitations it seems like he could create an OP army, as the four gods each have strengths and weakness.
I'm REALLY curious to find out how the chaos armies from the first two games will interact with the chaos gods armies.
I can't imagine them starting with Chaos Dwarves and Ogre Kingdoms though. Their lands will likely be there but they will be introduced as Faction DLC most likely. There's already more than the usual starting factions. But there has to be an extra faction as the early adopter benefit so I guess one of them makes sense.
I am also wondering whether to buy this game. I think it's worth it
Do you own the first two? If not they get big sales from time to time and will give you plenty to do.
Preordering, or getting it in the first week of release, the third game will include a free race pack. I don't believe they've announced what that race will be but my hope is Chaos Dwarfs.

I think that poster is an adbot. It is a fine series and if you have any doubts just wait for the sales as you say. As long as there is Norsca I will be happy.
Actually me too. I am very interested how they handle previously unknown factions like Cathay, Nippon, Ind etc(not because of gameplay, don't really care about Total War, but because of a broader Warhammer Fantasy ramifications). And how will they handle Chaos Demons, not a lot to go on per God basis.
I am hoping they make diplomacy better, add 10+ multiplayer hosted games, add more content/features like treasure hunting and more in-depth mechanics. Yes I understand that in its essence total war games are about fighting but I'd like more to it.

Yeah, me too. I want to do more than fight, the best example is something like the Empire or Bretonnia. But, then again, there's always Geheimnisnacht mod for CK2, so...
I can have a Slaneesh army?..... Interest just went up 1000%
/Cheers, Lahnmir
Yes you can, but please, before we begin, do name that Slaanesh army, name more than ~7 units. I'm very interested in how they tackle these more niche or even outdated(or fully new like Cathay) factions. Very curious about it indeed.

I don’t think I understand what you mean. Are you saying that those armies are so limited in scope and that they have very few different units so making a whole faction of them in TWW3 will be difficult? I know Slaanesh has 6+ unique characters and a dozen or so different units for sure. We’ll see how it works.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

Just use the Slaanesh army from AoS. Problem solved.
Alternatively, combine what few pre-AoS Slaanesh units exist with some Slaanesh daemon units.

Or both. *shrug*
Age of Sigmar.../puke . But, my sentiments aside, it could be done that way, yes. Because without it, these are the demonic units you can expect: Demonettes, Succubi, Fiends, Secretkeepers(Greater Demon), some Chaos Spawn and...??? . Idk about AoS. I have no idea and want to have no idea about it. Given the way how it came to be, it is a persona non grata to me.

It's an upcoming army. Here's a link to the preview. You can see if you think the aesthetic suits Warhammer or not. There really isn't anything in them that would exclude them from Warhammer as far as I can tell although the names are kinda cheesy like usual of modern day GW.
As for Slaaneshi generic units that aren't from AoS, amongst both mortal and daemon there's Daemonettes, Daemonette Heralds (which mostly aren't too different but there is one that's playing a harp... made of human), fiends, seekers (mortals mounted on those... seahorse things), Keepers of Secrets, Daemon Princes, those thresher chariots, and slaangors (Slaanesh dedicated beastmen. Current Lore-wise dedicated beastmen prefer to hang out with dedicated mortals because they're somewhat ostracized from undedicated beastmen herds, which is why they're included in that Slaanesh army preview)
....they'll probably put in the AoS units. Ditto for the Khorne and Tzeentch armies. I don't think Nurgle has an AoS army yet though (although he did get some dedicated units in the events leading up to AoS)
I'm pretty happy with them inventing new units / armies for TW3, as long as they fit with the lore.
I hope these new Chaos armies can own territory, whilst I loved the units from the chaos army in the existing games (they had great units!), I really disliked the horde mechanic.

They can branch out to 40K and Sigmar for ideas. A redditor made a stab at the four gods units a year ago, i assume by branching out.
This content creator made a video on it, but I'm avoiding watching too much before launch

Very interesting. Most of that comes from the modern Warhammer(AoS + 40k 8th+), yes? In all truth, how's AoS, I remember it being just too damn random, ungrounded and illogical for my tastes.
