Microsoft just got done dropping $7.5 billion US Dollars on ZeniMax Media, and it looks like the tech giant is eyeing another piece of the gaming proverbial pie: Discord.

But not that Microsoft needs it just going after the trendy heh
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
However i would bet that if Microsoft got a hold of it they would simply turn it into a bigger store front and add in advertising.
They would pull off this purchase because the app is free albeit once they got a hold of it they would likely offer various package subscriptions.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
MIcrosoft will pay wall the hell out of it, that is how it will suck, the normal things that we can do with Discord will come with a monthly sub.
Unfortunately, company I work for still uses Skype. Granted it is far better the Lync was but it has many short comings still.
The moment discord started to get investor you know they selling ur data. they do not get all their money from Nitro boost subscription.. They can said what they want they changed their TOS multiple time to make it appear they cannot and do not sell it ''saying we share the data with our investor and Company.. far has i know that is selling lol.. they do. The moment it's free you are the product. Some user on reddit gathered ton of proof about it.

Anyone know off-hand what Discord currently brings in annually?
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Discord was not a good thing....Every game I played before it had a lively community chat, then Discord and voice chat showed up and all of a sudden MMOs felt like ghost towns.......I also despised having to go outside the game to chat, it completely ruined immersion. I am still not a fan of it to this day.
Forums dead
Guildchat dead
But hey, all of it is happening on Discord. I hate Discord.

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
Gdemami absolutely not being an armchair developer
When people ask about why MMO's have become more single player, simply look at what MMO makers have done to build and develop in-game communities and interaction in the last 15 or so years... that's right.. not a damn thing.
In fact, in DDO, they have at least Voice party chat, so you all don't need to log into discord to use voice for a raid run, you don't need to have a 3rd party program running, you can log in, join the group, and as long as you have sound, you can hear the raid leader talking. You can also mute nd even adjust the volume anyone else in the group, by simply clicking the speaker icon next to their name.
So when people ask about MMO communities, well.. look at things like Discord, where people build communities outside the game, so when these players go into a game world/mmo, they are already a community they are interacting with, and thus do not see any need to interact with the others in the game world directly around them.
So there is a lot to be said for how these 3rd party apps have had a negative effect on the MMO game community.
When was the last time a HUGE corporation was broken up for being a monopoly?
Too much power is being acquired by Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple.
When will something be done? My guess is never. Too much lobbying money being put into our corrupt government's "campaigns".
But it is nice to have independent options.
