If you are going to do Battle Pass ( + DLC ) ala Destiny 2, you won't see me playing this game. I hate to pay every 3 months for a DLC which contains items I couldn't get otherwise. If I take a 2 months break and the current DLC is about to end in 1 month or less, well .. I'm forced to pay for that 1 month left of the said DLC to be able to play the game at his fullest, until the next DLC comes.
Do like GW2. Game + Expansions + Cash Shop ( with no P2W of course ), and I'm good.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I'm ignorant of the appeal, by concept & practice, of cash shops in games during testing phases. If whatever is bought in the cash shop during testing remains applied to the account then that makes a bit more sense. To me having a cash shop seems like a cash grab before the game is even properly completed &/or released. A bit of the cart before the horse, but for most games it seems to be the trend nowadays.
No. There's a full wipe of test servers so nothing that happens there carries over to the live servers. It's a real test not what Cryptic and New World call beta but isn't.
Players in the test don't use their own money to buy things in the cash shop. They give testers the currency to test the shop.
Oh okay, I can understand wanting to test out the cash shop to make sure it works proper that way using "Monopoly" money. I just couldn't wrap my head around wanting to spend RL money during testing. lol Thanks for clarifying.
What exactly is a Battlepass? Sorry I don't play Fortnite or COD. Is it like a limited amount to obtain skins/loot before the pass expires?
I'm in the same boat as you. As far as I can tell it varies by game. The most common seems to be the equivalent to a 3 month subscription (paid in 1 chunk but less than the typical sub) that gives you access to certain events and/or things from the cash shop.

Not a big fan of boosts but if the leveling system is not too grindy thats fine with me. As for boosts for crafting or matts for sale on a cash shop...Thats not great news. I play ESO and really the only crafting matt they sell on the shop, is just for cosmetic of the item. I think giving any advantage other than this would be a problem. Cash shop should be for cosmetics and minor convenience items, especially on a B2P title.
I have the game pre ordered, I am not too worried atm. If the cash shop is terrible and out of control, I will just RIP my 40 bucks and give them a bad review. If they implement the cash shop and BP correctly without any serious advantages, power to them. I want developers of good games to make money. If you can make money off purely cosmetics kinda like path of exile, power to you.

it dont matter what there called and used for we want no cash shops in our games people spend their money stupidly for cosmetics or getting power level items!
Amazon Games, looking to steal the title of worst gaming company from EA. Actually, that is too much credit to AG. At least EA produces titles that actually get released. AG just produces cancelled projects.
I was teetering on the edge of trying New World, especially as my favorite weapon combination is bow/spear and not many games do it! Unfortunately it looks like that will be changing.

like anything, i'll play the game when / if a battle pass is released i'll decide if i find the value of it worth the spend or not, but i'm not bothered about cash shops / battle passes as pretty much every game available has some form of these things.
as always i'll assess what i consider good value for myself and spend or not spend accordingly. But i mean if people wanna miss out on what might be a really fun game because of principle more power to them!
I guess the majority isnt bothered or it wouldn't be common practice now, i'd rather just go with the flow and enjoy playing games with my buddies and spending my money where i see fit then dying on a hill over something that won't change industry wide as more games move away from the classic mmorpg model to "player limited session based gameplay".
it's obviously unfortunate, but it's the situation we have.

Battle passes vary greatly and they directly impact playing the game. To what extent is debatable. For example, the BP in Destiny 2 gives you engrams that give you gear... so on the off chance you get the "flavor of the month" best weapon then its P2W. It also gives you a decent season themed exotic weapon as well.
In 76, they introduce certain things only accessible in the BP like mannequins for your camp or certain style of power armor. Now you can also get in game currency through the battle pass to access items, plans, etc...
And in many cases its like having a sub but not subbing, more like a one time purchase.
The issue is that is become a slippery slope. First its cosmetics, then exclusive items, then currency, then convenience items.
I am waiting to see what 76 does with the new legendary crafting items and the BP - I will guarantee you they will end up in there.
This is a deal breaker for me. The only BP game I play is Destiny 2 but thats mainly because there is no better "drop in and shoot things" game I can find.
The Season in 76 is not a Battle Pass though. It is open to all players and requires no purchase. It is a seasonal ladder that is progressed by jumping through daily activity hoops.
The Battle Pass in Destiny 2 and other GaaS games costs money, gates items and gear, and activities over a period of time (typically 3 months to 1 year). Like you said it varies from game to game and offers "subscription like" access to content that would otherwise need to be bought piecemeal in a cash shop if it's available at all. For me though what differentiates a BP is the up front cost and the delivery of content through the time period.
Yeah, my bad on that. I forgot 76 is open to all. Too many battle passes, too many games
I wasn't trying to call you out, hope it didn't come across that way. Just wanted to add some clarity or perspective.
Your point about too many Battle Passes is spot on. Monetization in this industry is confusing and convoluted. It's hard to keep up with where the wallet tapping is coming from. Again to your point, Battle Pass is such a weasel phrase because it can basically mean anything the studio/publisher wants it to. You never really know what you're actually getting.
Lets not forget how successful archeage unchained battle pass system was.../endsarcasm.

Crafting gear in ESO is all about how many traits for a craft you know because your ability to craft any craftable set is gated by traits. The best sets of course require you knowing 9 traits to craft those sets.
Each trait you research takes an increasing amount of time to learn:
1st Trait: 6 hours
2nd Trait: 12 hours
3rd Trait: 24 hours
4th Trait: 48 hours
5th Trait: 96 hours (4 days)
6th Trait: 192 hours (8 days)
7th Trait: 384 hours (16 days)
8th Trait: 768 hours (32 days)
9th Trait: 1536 hours (64 days)
The cash shop sells boosts (and has for many years) that range from 1 day off the research timer for 400 crowns up to 15 days off the timer for 5000.
This is almost identical to the New World crafting boosts in effect except in ESO they're really expensive and only affects one craft - you'd need to buy a separate one for blacksmithing, another for woodworking, etc.
You better rethink your "...advantage other than this would be a problem" statement lol.

What is this Studio's motto? something like? "They say you need to learn from the mistakes of others, because you can't make all the mistakes yourself, but we damn sure aim to try?"
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
Easy Pass.. don't want anything to do with a game that has a cash shop. Still too many people in the world who love throwing their money at a game so that they can feel like they won.
