Creative Director of Ashes of Creation, Steven Sharif, may not be the most outspoken developers in the industry, but recently, his hot take on the upcoming Amazon Game Studios title, New World has made some waves. The Discord message in question hasn't been removed, but has been deemed "unprofessional" from Sharif himself earlier today on Reddit.

    Based on his comment, he didn't think it like that. Heck, this is not a PR move at all. The irony in this is high-sky.

    Waiting for them to add boosts and such in their ......upcoming ( when? ) game.

    Such items do not constitute p2w devoid of context, IMO.

    I define pay to win as paying to gain a performance advantage compared to other players at your level range. A level booster is not pay to win, unless you're dealing with a game with uncapped progression, like BDO, or open FFA PvP (and both of these things are bigger flaws in and of themselves than even P2W).

    How is paying to level your character / tradeskills faster not a huge advantage? Have you ever actually played an mmo? Leveling faster than others gives you a huge advantage when it comes to gearing and making money. Leveling tradeskills faster also gives you a huge advantage when it comes to gearing and making money. Having better gear and more money because of something you purchased on a cash shop literally is giving you a "performance advantage"... Really not sure how you don't view that as P2W?

    The tiers don't include headstart but i wouldn't count on Slapshot doing any research whatsoever. Headstart was a Kickstarter exclusive, which means if you did not participate during that campaign then you can't obtain headstart access any more. I won't go into detail how this is not P2W because Steven has explained on numerous occasions the importance of headstart and how nodes are disabled yada yada, I suggest if you run your mouth with lies and hatred you at least do some research.

    There will be 1 OCE headstart server and like 2-3 other headstart servers in the rest of the regions. People who are competitive will just choose a non-headstart server, it's really not that big of a deal. Also Steven as a person became wiser through the years with Ashes, he admits he's made promises that he shouldn't have, he owns up to it.

    Do some research about the game next time before posting your false information.

    I dont see anything wrong with this whatsoever. but also i find it a little ironic when the greed on Ashes payment model is high asf.

    Umm... the tiers literally included head starts. You could literally buy them.   


    Talk about false information.   The fact that he is not CURRENTLY selling headstarts does not negate the fact that he did.  In fact it makes them even more valuable (exclusive) to those that bout them.

    You can argue whether they are a big edge or not.  What you cannot argue is that he sold tiers with head starts based on how much you paid.

    It also comes back to not throwing stones when you live in glass houses.

    Stephen should be quiet and focus on his own massively delayed game and worry less about Amazon's massively delayed game.

    This is from the team that thought monster coins were not pay to win. Essentially you get the ability to: Attack a settlement, risk none of your game resources to do so, hide your name, and hide the settlement behind the player.

    The irony of this being said in a thread that is literally him apologizing for saying dumb stuff a day ago... after yet another apology for delaying the Alpha... again.

    This comment isn't going to age well 3 months into ashes life when they start offering "convienience" items on the cash shop due to not making enough money to sustain.

    Well hopefully this draws attention to AoC cash shop, for a game that will have a monthly sub fee of $15 per month too. I, just like him, want new blood in the MMO genre but its funny that they think they will be successful where others have failed when both companies have scary potential monetization schemes.

    B2P with cash shop selling boosts and a battlepass.
    B2P, Monthly sub $15, plus cash shop.

    IDK I will gladly spend money on both games but I think games like warzone, pathofexile, fortnite, and even ESO(some aspects are trash but overall acceptable) have the right idea on monetization.
