Not sure why he apologized at being an unprofessional commentary. Maybe he pre-ordered and is as frustrated as many other regular pre purchasers? It's a free country and he can speak his mind.
The big curiosity is if he will remember said comment 6 months after AoC releases

Maybe. But if he's mad at Amazon he can cancel his pre-order and get his cash back. If one of his own customers is mad about his own delays, side projects (Battle Royale game), etc... they do not have that same option. Something to think about.

New World needs to launch with a cash shop to suck down as much money as possible on the basis of "hope" before everyone sees that its just Anthem 3.0 but worse. The one year extension New World got isnt nearly enough time to put an actual game into the "game" as it was clear the combat systems were never, ever going to carry it in order for it to be a "pvp" mmo.
Someday people are going to stop %^#&$% apologizing to the mob.
If anyone were ever sorry about anything; they wouldn't have done whatever they are apologizing for, in the first place...

What mob? You mean a few potential customers? I remember back in the day gamers used to be all, "speak with your wallet", and we did that with many games....now they all ...omg mobs..cancel culture..what happened to everyone's backbone? Both games will probably monetize up the ass in a way we hate....no one is right in this.
Such items do not constitute p2w devoid of context, IMO.
I define pay to win as paying to gain a performance advantage compared to other players at your level range. A level booster is not pay to win, unless you're dealing with a game with uncapped progression, like BDO, or open FFA PvP (and both of these things are bigger flaws in and of themselves than even P2W).
Damn how battered is the MMORPG community at this point that people are willing to stand up for and defend shitty business practices just because they aren't the worst.
when this idiot is saying stupid shit like this in public, you can be assured he is saying 100x worse things in private with his coworkers and the working environment is incredibly toxic
won't be surprised if we see stories of this idiot sexually harassing employees down the line.
I could care less about pay to win, but I do care about a game being designed for painful leveling or skilling in order to make cash shop purchases lucrative. Screw that and screw them.
Well hopefully this draws attention to AoC cash shop, for a game that will have a monthly sub fee of $15 per month too. I, just like him, want new blood in the MMO genre but its funny that they think they will be successful where others have failed when both companies have scary potential monetization schemes.
B2P with cash shop selling boosts and a battlepass.
B2P, Monthly sub $15, plus cash shop.
IDK I will gladly spend money on both games but I think games like warzone, pathofexile, fortnite, and even ESO(some aspects are trash but overall acceptable) have the right idea on monetization.
agree! but ashes does not have Box fee to play .Monthly sub $15, plus cash shop. No b2p

Says the man who is selling atm 400+ costumes for alpha game and to "test" is you need to pay 500$. Steven -> Roberts brother!
Not only that but his "tiers" include headstarts (more money = bigger headstart) for those that paid more money. In an open world PvP game...
The tiers don't include headstart but i wouldn't count on Slapshot doing any research whatsoever. Headstart was a Kickstarter exclusive, which means if you did not participate during that campaign then you can't obtain headstart access any more. I won't go into detail how this is not P2W because Steven has explained on numerous occasions the importance of headstart and how nodes are disabled yada yada, I suggest if you run your mouth with lies and hatred you at least do some research.
There will be 1 OCE headstart server and like 2-3 other headstart servers in the rest of the regions. People who are competitive will just choose a non-headstart server, it's really not that big of a deal. Also Steven as a person became wiser through the years with Ashes, he admits he's made promises that he shouldn't have, he owns up to it.
Do some research about the game next time before posting your false information.
Umm... the tiers literally included head starts. You could literally buy them.
Talk about false information. The fact that he is not CURRENTLY selling headstarts does not negate the fact that he did. In fact it makes them even more valuable (exclusive) to those that bout them.
You can argue whether they are a big edge or not. What you cannot argue is that he sold tiers with head starts based on how much you paid.
It also comes back to not throwing stones when you live in glass houses.
Stephen should be quiet and focus on his own massively delayed game and worry less about Amazon's massively delayed game.
I remember when people loved headstart and nobody give a flying fuck about people been higher and falling behind in level, people enjoyed their game and having fun, now its all about i want to be first so i can make tons of money and have better gear then everyone else...

So you define p2w as paying to gain a performance boost advantage compared to others at your level range? This is an oddly specific way to define it. Personally, I view it as being able to pay for any performance boost over other players. Which would include level boosts since levels give you a performance boost over other players. What do I know though, I mean I am not over here defining a specific edge case scenario as not pay 2 win so that I can white knight for a game that is going to die within a week or two of release. This game is also primarily a PvP game...Also paying for QOL is paying money to solve problems the developers created for you to solve rather then actually solve it themselves.
I remember when people loved headstart and nobody give a flying fuck about people been higher and falling behind in level, people enjoyed their game and having fun, now its all about i want to be first so i can make tons of money and have better gear then everyone else...
No players in a PvP game ever said "Oh let those guys I'm going to fight get a few days headstart so they can kick my ass regularly"

If it allows you to skip the entire game why bother making a world and a leveling system if it can be skipped for money? Just double the game price and sell it with no world or levels - just dungeons and arenas.
MMOs that do that are dishonest and it means they expect their audience to be lazy and with a large disposable income, prone to spending on useless trash. If the game hasn't even launched and they aim for that kind of audience, it means the game was never meant for the original MMO players who played UO. RS, EQ, Vanilla WoW and are disappointed with how dumbed-down and pointless without any challenge. Ashes of Creation and New World obviously are aiming at the same demographic that plays Retail WoW and ESO and actually believe themselves that "They are playing a real MMORPG" with the group finder tool, overworld immortality and trivial story where you don't need to interact with other players.
I'm pretty convinced at this point that MMORPG as a genre is dead and only what old MMOs are still running officially or through private servers are what remains of the MMO genre, the rest is just Online Hubs with a Dungeon Finder tool.
It is unprofessional as the head of a rival studio, but honestly calling out agressive cashshops and p2w tactics I fully support. And yes ANY boost no matter how minor is p2w and is a major negative.
P2W is a cancer to this genre and should not be tolerated by anyone no matter if the game is p2p, b2p, or f2p.
Steven is not 100% clean either they are selling alot of cosmetics montly to rack in money for a "fully funded game" that is not out. I understand this might help development cost and bring in more ppl but it looks really bad. I will say so far there is no p2w in the ashes shop and Steven is very outspoken against it, unlike heads of amazon studio who embrace the model so i have higher hopes in a fair product from intrepid then amazon studio.
As for selling preorders i do not mind. Most of them you get your moneys worth in the stuff you get in them. Early access servers were already stated to be separate from launch servers in prior interviews so i see no issues there.

the money-men are ALWAYS the real ones in-charge. They've been the curse of this genre forever.
