No one thing will make a difference to mmmo's they need a lot of work.I am not even sure if 10 things would bring them up to snuff because most of the problems have more to do with MISSING design ideas and not changing existing ones.
I would rather start making better quality games period and not just mmos.
A small list of things
realistic worlds and not instances
eco systems
really well scripted AI
Deep character designs and with less emphasis on visual sliders but if they get the customization done right then sure sliders are icing on the cake.
Biomes/seasons and get rid of all that cash shop seasons pass crap.
Remove cash shops completely,if your game is not good enough to buy then it is not good enough,f2p does not change that.
get rid of silliness crap like flying in the air, walking on water, jumping 20 feet in the air, somersaults etc etc.
Deep combat and creature systems
MMO aspects such as grouping, reliant on other players,SEPARATE economies.
VERY deep crafting that removes boss drop nonsense from the 80's but instead perhaps various methods to unlock making better versions of boss drops.
Did i mention no cash shops?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

If you are going to go that far the there can never, ever be another fantasy game.
Because magic doesn't exist.
So your Final Fantasy IX would not be possible anymore.
Also, that means that all sci-fi games require players to wear suitable "suits" on the surface because the majority of planets that could even be walked on would not be survivable.
You would probably also have to keep it to within the same solar system as any travel outside of that would be impossible.
While it has been shown that very small particles can travel through a wormhole, I believe anything larger would require an inordinate amount of energy.
because perfectly realistic always = fun. Still, it's your list and you're entitled to it. I'm just not convinced you know what you're actually asking for.

Every game I have played really... everything should be crafted, monsters might drop rare materials but games need true player economies... I miss UO for that, getting a real person to repair your stuff, it built community
EQ1: Reevaluate some of the older (mid-game) decisions concerning in-game items/rewards. For instance, the items available through doing quests in Shadows of Faydwer require 700+ points to earn and grant 3 points for a successful quest. This made sense when SoF was the top end expansions, the zone was active and groups there were easy to find.
Sometime after this expansion, a replay timer was added on each quest (18 hours or so), so a
character can only each quest once per day, earning 15-18 points per
day. Most of the reward items are also Prestige, making them unusable by f2p players trying to catch up. These reward items aren't close to current end-game items, so it really wouldn't unbalance the game, at the very best, they would only help a character succeed at the next expansion.
These kinds of restrictions/limitations don't just exist in SoF; similar outrageous costs exist in almost every mid-game expansion from LDoN onward. Everywhere there is a vendor using a special currency, this kind of problem can exist. Originally, these vendors were great alternatives to raiding, which has been necessary for successful adventuring in expansion forever (it seems). Maybe at the most current expansions, these restrictions may still make sense to protect the end-game, but protecting the integrity of expansion N+1 from expansion N's alternative gear? That doesn't make much sense to me.
These type decision just drive people to other places, maybe even other games. Neither outcome are things that an aging game like EQ1 needs or deserves.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Everquest : new engine new models and updated graphics. Is that three things? Am I disqualified?
Isn't that what pantheon is aiming for? An ipdated Everquest?
I think it's in the "spirit of" but not exactly an updated Everquest. I'm fairly certain they actually said that they weren't just making a modern Everquest.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I don’t have a favorite MMO right now so I am going with the MMO that would be most improved with one type of change.
SWROR with better class party dynamics and group content. If the group play in SWTOR was greatly improved it would be an excellent MMO. Right now it is basically single player online with hot garbage group play.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
WoW retail - I love the raiding, it's the hardest content in any mmorpg today, i love it as it's much like EQ2 was in 2004-2008. I would love to have more organic questing much like EQ2 did back in the golden years of mmorpg's, the questing is there but questing more along the lines of epic heritage questing, that would literally be the cherry on top.

Since my "favorite" MMO is no longer around, I cannot comment on any existing. I will say that I would remove forever all "f2p" and "microtransactions" models from every MMO out today.
I would make jumping useful in SWG. They were time-constrained when they were developing the game so they only had the time to make movement on a 2D plane that's why you can't jump over anything and overall movement in the game feels like a real jank.
Overall I would make movement better and more responsive in that regard.
Combat abilities and interacting with UI and NPCs more responsive and fluent.
And finally - UI scaling and overall make the UI look better. I hate how the current UI is so tiny and yet the borders are blurry, the font is so tiny and it seems like it was planned to only look good on a CRT monitor with a resolution of either 800x600 or 1024x768 (at best) and on anything beyond that it looks like ass.
Planet maps look so bad and hard to use, so you have to use the UI mod for SWGL that changes the maps to the satellite layout so you can actually see what's up.
And lastly - I would change how barren planets look - there is so much empty space on every planet that it might as well be randomly generated like in TES 2 Daggerfall, it won't even make a difference. I'd put more NPCs, quests, more buildings, objects and things a player can interact with.
SWG galaxies is great, but to say it has no problems ... that's just lunacy.
I would have made WoW Classic leveling last for 70 years. Instead of playing a watered down version of a re-released game i could be happily farming linen on my mage and run deathmines and SFK with my friends today.

Lineage 2 less reliance on super amounts of money at higher levels. I just couldn't keep up.
Lord of the Rings Oline too many things need to change but I would say completely change the aesthetics of gear and the avatars, they look ridiculous.

It is still here and better than ever with the new Bespin expansion.
Player run economy, all items crafted by the the players, still a fully player driven world being operated by gamers, not a selfish greedy corp.
