DDO - I'd make it so you there was a small, hard limit to reincarnating for more power.
There is.. so you got your wish.
What is it? I just logged in to see if something changed and I have all my feats for reincarnating, all the extra racial points for racial reincarnating, etc. I also checked the wiki and nothing has changed I cans see. I finished off three races and am on my forth, I have a million more to go and I still have a bunch of class reincarnations to do too.
You hard cap at 3 of any single thing, Race/Class, in fact they have a title for this called Ultra Completionist, takes something like 111 lives IIRC.
I'm only a single completionist, so.. I still have a long way to go.
I explained it wrong. I meant like reincarnating for power three times total or some other small number.
I love DDO, but I can't do end game until my build is finished, and it isn't finished until I get ultra completionist. Look how much power the three racial reincarnations give for each race. That is a lot of bonus racial points.
Even if there was a server that limited all the reincarnations for three total of each type. That way it becomes a strategic part of your build like picking feats. Not something that takes years and years to get through until your build is actually finished and you can start working on gear and end-game. Would also give a good reason to level alts.
I see what you are saying.
Yah that would be kinda cool, if they made, say something like a variant of the Hardcore Server, where you started as an Ultra Completionst, just for the funs of it. That would be super cool IMHO.
But, legit, don't need those past life feats to be viable for end game raids, I have a 32 point first life cleric, that raids just fine, I also have a 32 point pure fighter that has minimal issues with getting into raids as well, (Given it's just much easier for Healers to get into Raids than DPS)
But, I totally get wanting to be an ultra completionist, because, that is the long game goal, but don't let that stop you from enjoying raiding along the way.

I think Asheron's Call 2 could have benefited from working chat systems and would prolly have lasted longer...so much more they could of done with that game. Only thing I wish now is someone to continue the series as I enjoy the world.
I have many games that I loved and one thing made me quit: Ultima Online- Best game Ive ever played. I wish they wouldve implemented Age of Conan like graphics.
SWG- I wouldve kept the game as it was before holocrons. Just leave the game alone and let players figure out the Jedi class a decade later without telling them how. This game was my second favorite. It had so much potential but they messed it up by trying to spoon feed Jedi into the world. I stopped right when holocrons were added. I hated that they made it easy.
City of Heroes- No PvP. Kinda lame. They added it later, but I was already gone. I never return to a game once I leave.
WoW- I wouldve never added so many instances. It left the open world a barren wasteland and boring. People loved instances and all the bosses, but I felt like it ruined the World and I rarely saw anyone after all the additions of BGs with HK awards and instances with boss loot.
LOTRO- I wouldve added open world PvP from the start or at least a server with open world pvp for those of us that like it all. Loved this game, but the PvP was so lame.
Archeage- Stop Pay to Win. Loved the classes in this game even though I normally like skill based progression.
Age of Wushu- Stop pay to win. I loved a lot of things in this game. So fun, but Pay to Win ruined it.
Rift- PvP lacked...
I played so many games and one or two things just made me think it was boring.
I wish I could make a game. I'd add all the things I loved from every game it would be an amazing game. So many things from UO were done right. I mean, the game still exists and people even play private servers like UOR and those developers make bank facilitating a 2d game to people.
Most of them: Turn them into singleplayer games with a chat. Look, in most of them, community is so severely underutilized(outside of Instances, but meh) that it wouldn't make any large difference.
Make it so that any skill's animation can still be cancelled but you lose any effect from what you just canceled. In other words make it so you can cancel out for the original defensive purposes reason but get rid of the incentive to fake cancel just to up your DPS.

Yeah, I wish I could. I almost tried after I finished my iconics, but then they added racials and more iconics. Some of the regular heroic reincarnations don't do much for my build so I was going to skip them. I went from almost finished to not even close to being ready.
But, it is kind of like an OCD thing. It would be like raiding in wow without putting in your talent points. Or having a bunch of empty equipment slots. I would just be really anxious about not being ready. Also you have to worry about not having enough space to reincarnate.

Most MMO's are ancient and could use a clean slate to start from, as an example world of warcrafts gear looks awful thanks to the foundationals of the gear system having been made some 20 years ago now and if they'd change it they also have to change every piece of gear ever made to fit a new system.
FF14 is severly held back in many ways aswell in a similar fashion idk how many features the players want to be made/improved upon but they can't because of old stuff but I heard quite a few, in particular the 'transmog system'.
This is kind of a tough one; to start, what is my favorite MMO?
I guess ESO is for now.
I wish ESO had two things: 2 action bars with 10 skills each, and a difficulty slider so that I could enjoy One Tamriel at a more difficult setting, like +4.
Kill the the stat inflation due to gear and levels. Let players group regardless level or gear at little disadvantage. But let the combat still be meaningful, unlike ESO and BDO. My current Favorite is AoC, and it would certainly be better if different levels could interact more productively.

Ok.. You got me, I never played WoW, so, I don't get that reference.
I fully get the OCD thing, I mean, I TR because, legit, I enjoy it. I like the life cycle, I finally got my Completionist, and now I plan to start racial lives, because.. that seems cool, but no lie, that 1 point for 3 TR's like needing to get kicked in the balls to upgrade your french-fries from medium to large.
On top of that, the vast majority of character power in DDO comes from gear, so, as irony would have it, if you raided, you would make your end-game character far more powerful than if you just TRed.
But I get yah.. that limited bank space is a real thing.

I got to disagree. I believe my character, that has never raided, could easily beat a non-reincarnated lvl 30 with great raid gear. I have max twists of fate, and I focus on solo builds, where someone that shot to 30 would probably focus on a raid role build. I wish I could prove this but there really isn't much options or incentives to pvp in DDO, and most people I see raid have at least reincarnated enough to get their stances and 36 point builds and enough twists of fate to function so I doubt we could test.
But besides 36 point builds, twists, stances, etc., if you look at the regular AP trees, they completely change how a character functions and their power dramatically. Look at all the SLAs in just the racial trees, like the heal SLA for the blade iconic paladin guy. And then look at the power changes in tier bonuses or caps. Extremely powerful. Raid gear is powerful, but just look at doing all the race reincarnations - what is there 12 or 13 now? That is 12 or 13 racial skill points. It completely changes builds. Plus 12 or 13 stat points, and 12 or 13 skill points. That is a ton of power.
And I'm not knocking raid gear or how powerful it is. But what drew me to DDO was all the build options and chardev outside of equipment. I just wish I could finish all my reincarnations to get to that point to start getting some.

Ok, you got me on that one. The situational gear, and the fact that I am still wearing my Heroic Torq in ly 30th level Wiz/Arti, because it still makes me into a mana battery.. is a solid point, on how gear can shift things, and it's not always about just the top gear. Alright.. I also agree this is a super cool part of DDO.
And your right, DDO PvP is just bad, I mean not only is bad in the fact that the Devs were like "We ain't gonna balance for PvP so suck it" it bad like it's this bag of stale popcorn the devs put in the corner for the people that just needed popcorn, kind of bad.
However, if you want to roll a friendly challeng, that could be pretty fun, without anyone getting really upset, do something like Rushmores Mansion Epic, Solo, and see how well each of you fairs.
I legit think your build would win, but it would fun to see what happens, and it would not have that bitterness that PvP has about it.

Old school (T2A/UO:R) Ultima Online with LOTRO graphics.
My first MMO was UO, and I still prefer an open-ended, sandbox design. I started playing LOTOR for the first time a few months ago, and, though the graphics may be dated, I find them charming and prefect for my taste. The world is beautiful, as are the later armor graphics, though the earlier armors are much less so.
So much to choose from, but I will go with something that covers quite a few mmos that I like ..
Actually ban bots, cheaters, griefers and anyone who discrupt the game for others. Perma ban, not just a tmeout.

Ok, but we'd need to define "disruption" and define it very good. What did you have in mind?

I would wager they mean, People who cheat the system, and make the game unfair to people trying to play as intended.

SWG - give Raph Koster an extra 6-12 months to finish off the game and realise his original vision for it. Then give us some official servers.
LotRO - just give us a Shadows of Angmar server. As in roll back the code to those days, not just gate the content like they did on their progression servers.

2024: 47 years on the Net.
TSW, LotRO, EQ2, SWTOR, GW2, V:SoH, Neverwinter, ArchAge, EQ, UO, DAoC, WAR, DDO, AoC, MO, BDO, SotA, B&S, ESO,
But then again, not sure I've ever seen "meaningful" combat, at least not in most MMORPGS.
What actually gives games meaning, at least for me, is the stakes at hand, what there is to win or lose, not the actual mechanics in game.
So looking at it this way, Russian Roulette is both simplistic yet very meaningful.
