And as crypto crashes... the chorus gets louder...
They will tell you investing in companies that make products and supply jobs (their own day job as well, yes most of them make a great sugar free LARGE (don't know the verde crap cup size) mocha coffee with whip cream at Starbucks for me... I tip well) is a boomer concept....
I guess I'll miss out on betting my retirement on a digital lottery ticket.
Ps that's all anybody knows about cypto... crap shoot. Use some play money.
While this will make cards available they will be crippled for certain compute functions. And before you get all gushy on Team Green, Nvidia isn't doing this because they love you. They're doing this for the money. In a not too distant future GPU mining will be a thing of the past and there will be a literal shit ton of GPUs on the used market for cheap. This has the potential to absolutely crush retail GPU sales for a while. Nvidia doesn't want to see that happen and is making the smart marketing move to head that off.
I am extremely skeptical that they're crippling "certain compute functions". I would be very hard to do that in a way that cripples Ethereum mining without also breaking anything else.
What they're probably doing is changing the page size of their translation lookaside buffer, in order to make most of Ethereum's random lookups to global memory take two lookups instead of one. That would manage to target Ethereum pretty surgically while having zero effect on gaming and no effect on most other non-graphical compute, even. It would be impossible for the miners to get around it by changing their code. And the performance hit you'd expect would be nearly half, which is exactly what they cite.
I already got back my principle x3 when Ada hit 2.30. So no big loss to what I got left. This looks more like a squeeze right now, but a squeeze in crypto can see the price dropping alot.
With Crypto currency, someone like Elon Musk has a bit of influence. Like when he drove up the price of DogeCoin
In Crypto's defense - there are always players who are big enough to have an outsized roll in influencing the value.
Even USD can be influenced by the Fed Chairman (currently Jerome Powell) just making an announcement.
That's why there are rules set forth for traditional currency- mostly governed by the SEC in the US, to prevent people from taking advantage of that. And Elon has been regularly found in violation of those rules with respect to Tesla... it's just that no similar rules exist for Crypto yet.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
