There are so many different variants of Lineage 2 out there that it's confusing. I'm not sure which are legitimate and which are illegal private servers. Are any of them in a good state that would be reasonable for a new player to pick up the game today?

Lineage II classic is the NC Soft made classic server.

That said, unless one can get into a guild quickly, and one that helps new players, it might be difficult.

I strongly suspect that if they do a Lineage 3 (they are supposed to be working on one) that it will have very little to do with the previous games other than lore.

It will probably be made for modern audiences.
