Matt just thinks he's being clever using a not-so-apt Netflix comparison.
These are mostly things they could do with the current game, if they really are doing as they have been saying they are with the engine. I think the world set up is just fine as it is, for what they have always aimed to do with the game's questing and story-telling system. I don't see any real reason for them to do an entirely new game yet. One day, sure, but not now and not any time soon.
ESO just needs to fix their lag problems so people will come back. They get enough new cust every year to keep things going.
I would be more interested to see this studio make a new MMO, with a new IP or from one of their existing IPs. Take what they learned from ESO and build something from the ground up.
Bethesda hate seems to be the "cool thing to do" right now apparently. I have never seen such animosity towards a gaming company. Watching the stream on Sunday, I had to hide the comments and I really felt sorry for the moderators.
I enjoy ESO and I enjoy FO76. They are fun to play and enjoyable. They are not perfect but they do not warrant the levels of hate that are directed towards them.
Look, we get it. Many of you hate anything Bethesda does. But clearly they are doing a lot of what players want as well.
I am floored at how many people comment on stuff they hate. I have never understood that.
I used to love Bethesda same as Blizzard but they lied, repeatedly. In fact there are feature length documentary style videos of why both of these companies are garbage.
I think most of it is getting what they deserve. From fans they lied to and betrayed. Just because you are fine hand waving away all the bullsht they pulled with FO76 and ESO doesn't mean other people are not.

Elder Scrolls Online is actually Zenimax but your point is well taken.
Every developer has their contingent of critics who know more than they do and who think their opinions should be taken seriously.
this is not to say that some of what they say isn't true but sometimes it's just that, opinion.
I'm sure part of every game is that the developers want to make "their game" and want to explore things that interest them.
Much to the horror of certain people who watch everything they do.

Everyone has their bias even if they try not to be. I dont mind when a studio makes a promise and someone brings up similar promises in the past did not happen. Thats good consumer info. A general I hate comment with no direction or comments that ignore current facts, thats where I also find it unhelpful and makes it harder to find relevant comments to help you make an informed decision. All of a sudden you spend more time fact checking random things over getting to the truth.
Combat is horrible and animations look like they are from 1999.
I read complaints about the combat a lot but couldn't disagree more. I really like it in ESO, even though I agree on the proc meta and insane animation canceling stuff being questionable.
Having recently played SOLO I immediately wanted to go back to ESO.
Some people like liver and onions I guess.
Preferences vary, and that of others is no more liver and onions than your own.
No way dude....you don't say?! One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter blah blah blah. I'm so glad you explained this to me or I would not have gotten it.
And I would bet money that proportionately across the gaming world ESO's combat is equated to the same percentage of people who like liver and onions. Even people who like the game (me) know the combat sucks.

You're welcome. Your earlier comment suggested you needed help with that.
Your current comment suggests you are unaware silly and baseless comments are nothing but silly and baseless.
They are.
Again, you're welcome.
I like the game and don't feel the combat sucks. In fact, I quite enjoy it and don't like liver and onions. Although I may be in the minority, at least on this forum, I'm not alone in this view. So, preferences vary.
Imagine running the Elder Scrolls MMO for 7 years without having or ever adding 1h+magic or unarmed skill lines.
I'll focus instead on what they have done, but a new weapon skill would be nice in an upcoming chapter. I think one handed and magic the more likely of the two.
Matt Firor thought that what Elder Scrolls fans wanted was DaoC with an ES skin. Many of the changes over the years, have been to file off the DaoC rough edges into a more Elder Scrolls style.
And it was not like they weren't told this in Beta.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

I was referring to Bethesda as the brand more than production company itself. As a long time player of both ES and Fallout, they will always be Bethesda to me. ZOS of course is grouped into this situation due to ESO.
What I saw Sunday was beyond just opinion though... its a level of anger and hate that seems like it consumes some people. I get people are opinionated but at this point I get very concerned with some people's very vocal and very visual level of anger. And its not just the E3 presentation - its Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, how people treat their community managers.
I really and truly do not understand it. Its a zealousness I have never seen before and I cannot even recall anything in the last 20+ years of following this industry that comes close. I am at the point of not only concern but also from a psychological and sociological perspective as what is driving it.
I feel like these people have always been there, it's just that the internet giving disgruntled people more of an anonymous voice shows them off more.
The world is filled with unhappy angry people who don't know what to do with their anger nor how to fix their lives so they direct it toward something they realllly care about feeling that they have somehow been wronged.
But that's just about something else going on in their lives.

I really can't understand why some people hate the combat in ESO. I don't like the animation cancelling, but apart from that the combat is way better than many of the other mmos I have played.
Is it perhaps just a pve thing? Because the combat is sick in pvp.

II agree. I've wondered at times if it has more to do with people liking the way over the top GFX in many games that ESO (thankfully) doesn't have.
ESO has active blocks, bashes, dodges and breaking free from CC, casting while moving for all attacks and skills - even the channeled ones -, no cool downs except for ultimates and 12 slotted abilities is a sweet spot for me - better even that it's 6 + 6 with swapping instead of 1-12 since this feels better to me with my gaming mouse assigning just 7 buttons for combat: 1-6 for skils + a weapon swap modifier.
And I like animation canceling - not that what you cancelled still counts for full effect encouraging abuse, but the fact that you are always in control and can defensively react.
By comparison I detest the New World version of "action combat" with self-rooting abilities, cool downs on things that don't do enough to be worth a cool down, and no ability to cancel animations for some skills (like 2HD hammer abilities) with long ass animations that often make the skill irrelevant because your target moved or you saw damage to you incoming but could do nothing about it. When I played it I couldn't help thinking constantly how much better ESO does it.
Action combat should be about letting you make choices and having full control of your character all the time - not every 1 to 2 seconds. ESO has that in spades.

Depends on the levels of abstraction you want. If you work with a real heavy weapon, you don't stop your swing just because you'd prefer it.
You also don't have little timers on a schedule that is always the same telling you when you can do stuff and yet a lot of gamers see nothing wrong with that cobbled together "cool down" abstraction.
I'd say that modifying or stopping my swing with something as heavy as a sledge hammer or an axe is much more realistic than not being able to stop it at all. Animation lock is actually less realistic since once you start to swing you can never change it. Swings with even very heavy things just don't work like that IRL.
